Just happened to come across this place while in Auburn. Had a sign out for lunch specials. We decided to try it and we were so surprised! Excellent prices on food and drinks, courteous staff, delicious food and large portions! Will definitely go back!!

El Rey is a pretty consistent place to get good Mexican food. It’s not extremely authentic but it’s good. Their quesadillas and nachos are my favorite.

Lunch specials are all 7.95 with TEA ONLY. people get confused about that. But come on that’s really fair.

This was the WORST restaurant I have ever been to in my life. Do NOT go. Our group (of 5) all bought margaritas that had ZERO alcohol in it. A table next to us sent their margaritas back, and when we asked them what their problem was they also said there was no alcohol in their drinks. We told management and they did (try) to accommodate us, done very poorly. 1 shot of tequila brought for each of us, when we all ordered jumbo margaritas which should include way more tequila for 24 ounces of juice. They gave us 1/2 ounce of tequila for 24 ounces of juice. Our service was terrible. To top it all off, we were a group of 5 that got charged gratuity to each check when the sign at the front says 6 or more. When we asked them while paying for our ticket, the guy at the front said “well the server must have added it to your checks.” Our server must have added gratuity because we had them visit our table a total of 3 times while at the restaurant for 2 hours. Overall this was the most unprofessional and unsatisfactory restaurant I’ve ever been to. I have personally been a waitress for 2 years and I know when customers are being unreasonable, and this was not that.

Our experience was wonderful. Atmosphere was clean and comfortable, our food and drinks was great, and our service from Roberto and staff was excellent. Thank you we will definitely be back and certainly recommend.

If you’re ever in Auburn this is the perfect spot to stop at! The staff is extremely friendly, (Mckenly and jasmine are my favorite servers ). And the specials are unbeatable!! I took pictures because they are too good not to share!

Changed menu without informing people than they fixed it but did not get my rice , the rice was the best thing for me. So disappointing and will not go back , and out of 3 bathrooms only one worked and was disgusting and the wind sill by our table was super dirty

KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!!!! The amount I signed for after tip WAS NOT THE AMOUNT I WAS CHARGED FOR. So be carful when you go because I called to tell them about it and the manager just claimed he could not understand me. The waitress gave herself more tip than I left on the receipt even after I left cash on the table for her as well. I will never go here again and I recommend to be careful if you chose to go.

Rio is gone but El Jeffies is THE BOSS. Food quality is spot on and service is really good. They have a full time fajita maker cooking fresh fajita wrappers in the back.

I really liked this restaurant the food was really good and I would totally come back here again but the real reason I liked this restaurant is because of waiter our was so nice to us and smiled and was trying to her job instead of doing the bare minimum she went above and beyond so that’s why I like this restaurant and I would totally come again if she was my waitress.10/10

We only had queso and a few drinks… so not sure how the food tasted. Our server was good too. But the part that turned me and my fiancé off was their language and how they were talking to their employees. I don’t speak a lot of Spanish but my fiancé’s first language is Spanish. But we were sitting at the bar (where they were gathered) and I guess they didn’t think we understood what they were saying. But the owner and manger were talking very demeaning to their female employees and using a lot of bad language. Very unprofessional.

I ordered the chicken chimichanga. The shredded chicken was edible, but dry and bland. The cheese dip they say they cover dishes with looks and tastes like melted kraft singles. It is not the normal blanca cheese dip. Everything was just okay. There are much better Mexican places in Auburn. I was with a group. Everyone left food on their plates and no one asked for to-go boxes. Also, someone in the restaurant had a birthday and they do thing whole horrible birthday song with Sombrero. Not particularly my vibe.

I cannot begin to explain our experience here. We come here very often and love the food and have had nothing but good experiences, but tonight was horrible. Not one single order was right at our table and we informed the server of this (very politely) and she was so rude and let us know that if we wanted our food to be correct, I would need to go talk to the kitchen about it (?) she was so disrespectful to the point that my husband had to call the manager over to settle this. We saw several tables she was waiting on and none of their orders were correct either. We still had to pay for our meal even though it was horrible and received no apology. The worst experience at a restaurant we’ve ever had.

The food was good. I love how many different items were on the menu that I don't see at most Mexican restaurants, which was amazing! Had a Hawaiian margaritas which was delish! Definitely will go back

Update 1/20/2023:
Unfortunately there were a lot of issues during our visit today. Cold food, slow service, and both bathrooms had huge leaks and bad sewage smells. Not the best, and improvements need to be made...

El Rey is one of the two best Mexican restaurants in the Auburn/ Opelika area. Great food, lots of options, good drink prices, and friendly staff. The combinations are the best value.

I order from El Rey several times a month via TTTG. At times it's a lottery. I always ask for extra limes and sometimes I get extra, and at times I get maybe 1 for four tacos. I love chorizo and get the best options at El Rey.
Well, this time just put me in shock. This was the absolute best meal I have ordered from them. I'd say it's in the top 3 of meal delivery which I've done regularly over 6 years now.
Everything I asked in special instructions was on point. Like onions, and jalapeños on the side. Food was all very fresh and hot. This really made for a great day! Thank you all.

Service was slow he took his time bringing us our drinks the food wasn't the best it wasn't the best Service for a non busy restaurant and this was during lunch specials he didn't tell us what was today's specials he came to our table 3 times I don't recommend this place

Very good food, efficient service. Went there for lunch with wife and our son, it wasn't crowded and the environment & music was happy. Left my cell phone in the booth and did not realize until arriving home, 25min away, called El Rey DE Todas and they found my phone which I appreciated. Will definitely go back there to eat whenever in that area. Friendly staff.

This is my very favorite Mexican food restaurant in town. Food is always hot and fresh, service is great, prices are fair, portions are good. You are sure to find something on their menu to suit your tastes. They also have creative concoctions on their drink and bar menu too and The waitress Bere&Angel are very friendly, kind and attentive.

The phone kept going to voicemail. Finally, someone answered who sounded like he was answering his home phone and not a business. He told me to hold on, laid the phone down while talking to someone else and eventually hung up on me. I called the Mexican restaurant across the street from there and placed my order with someone who had been taught customer service. Never again with El Rey.

I drank my first margarita (it was delicious, but did lack the cheap tequila punch you hope for with a discount margarita) and ordered a second. Before I took a sip, I noticed something in my drink so I fished it out and found a bug frozen in an ice cube. I had them take that one off my bill and they offered me a new drink, but I’m guessing they all use the same ice so I really didn’t feel like that would address the issue. Food was reasonable, but I was just done….

Very good, my wife and I ordered the Texas fajitas for two. When the plate came to the table I was wondering how we were going to eat it all. Massive portion sizes. Give this place a try if you havent.

This was our first time and will not be our last.

I have been here many times now. This is the only Mexican restaurant I visit. Service is good as us the food. Awesome place.

Soooo.....when I decided to stop here, I'd had a particularly long day at work, all I wanted was a stiff cocktail and some Mexican food.
I stopped here because it's closer to my apartment, and I have heard good things, however, I got the distinct feeling that no one wanted to wait on me maybe?? I know these days, good help is hard to find/keep so I asked THREE people was there someone available to take my order. I don't wanna assume things, you know? A hostess took my order, then a server arrived. I felt like I should leave, but why should I? Man, my drink was Soooo good, and so was the food.
But the energy was way off!! Sometimes the service can kill an otherwise amazing dinner.

I have never been disappointed by the food or the service. It's my favorite Mexican restaurant. You can get a drink in a pineapple. Come on. What more do you need. Go eat here.

My elderly dad moved to the area 3 years ago from Colorado, and he says he hasn't had a good smothered burrito since he got here. We came to visit and took him in search of one. He hadn't been to El Rey yet, so we tried it. He was so satisfied he won't stop raving. This might be his new favorite restaurant. My husband and I also enjoyed it, and the service was excellent as well.

The flautas were delicious they were home made I especially enjoyed the beef ones. The soup was the best tortilla soup I've ever had and it lasted 2 days and I could eat no more but I did add more avocado the second day.

Quick service and a nice mix of authentic Mexican cuisine and as well as usual "American" options, with indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar.

I can easily recommend any of the Street Tacos, the Fajitas, and the Carnitas. The Al Pastor was very flavorful and accompanied by a spicier, more flavorful salsa picante I quite liked. May see about getting it on the side in the future!

You will leave satisfied, and without putting a hole in your pocket.

so, i wont lie i went to this place just because its bright and colorful. guys, im telling you. GO TRY THIS PLACE. the food is AMAZING. ive only been to lunch because i work close by, but if these are the lunch portions, im kinda scared to see how big the dinner portions are. ive been here twice, and both times i have left STUFFED. the nachos are AMAZING. the chips are crunchy and dont break when you dip them in the cheese. the quesadilla is nice and crispy and not greasy at all. i have YET to be able to finish my burrito.. theyre so big. i am loving this place. the staff is super friendly and engaging, the prices are very good for the amount of food you get, and the restaurant is clean. seriously, this place is worth the time.
