This place is really good. It's no wonder they're celebrating 50 years. With amazing prices and huge portions. A friendly, helpful, speedy staff. And the food is so yummy. They have no problem with you bringing service animals in either. It's a clean family friendly restaurant. Come in and dine in comfort, or if you're in a hurry go through the drive through window. Either way you're sure to have a good experience. We will definitely be back. Awesome experience!

Speedy's Mexican restaurant is a great place to eat. The Taco Salad was so crispy and delicious. The customers service was so awesome. When I walked in the place I was greeted with a beautiful smile. The place was clean and the atmosphere was so relaxing. The food was so good until I'm driving 44 miles round trip to go get me some more of that good old fashioned cooking. I'm from a family of good Cooks and when I says Speedy's Mexican restaurant food is good I really mean it!!!!

This was my second time coming to buy food at Speedy’s. I bought two beef taco salads and a chicken quesadilla that looked like a cheese taco. The taco salad was dry with very little sauce that I only saw on one side of the taco salad with a little tomato, puréed bean which I requested no beans or rice on my taco salads. It had a large burnt taco shell with more lettuce than anything and cheese. I called to ask if the taco came with sauce afterwards and the lady on the phone said it was already on there which was a big fat lie. The jalapeños were very mild and I didn’t enjoy any of my food. I paid $28.00 for nothing.

Very disappointed. Not sure why people like this place. It is similar to taco Bell, but not as good. Do not go here expecting a "normal Mexican" restaurant. The food is overpriced for what you get. The quantity is about half of what you'd normally get at a Mexican restaurant and able half as good, but around the same price. It honestly boggles my mind with how overrated this place is. I may have not got the right thing. However, the chicken quesadilla was very skimp. And the chicken chimichanga was mediocre at best. The rice and beans tasted like they were from a frozen meal.

If you're craving Mexican, I highly recommend Los Reyes instead.

I drove an hour away, to have a little piece of my childhood.
My fiance asked for no beans when he made our pickup order. He said that he repeated it,twice.
The young lady at the counter,was nice enough, but assured me that they're we're no beans.
Once we got home, beans!!
It would have been almost impossible for me to try to check myself, as the beans were covered with other toppings.
The older front counter gentleman wasn't welcoming at all and seemed bother to have to help me.
My food was great, but I was highly disappointed for my fiance, especially being his first time to try Speedys.

Your cashier Jesslyn with the two French braids need some customer service classes. I watched her greet all of her Caucasian customers but just gave a blank stare to the colored customers. This type of treatment will cost you a lot of business because people have a choice about where they spend their money. It's not a good loom. You're supposed to greet all of your customers regardless of the skin color.

We had the Chimichanga and Beef Taco Salad. The service was well and so was the food. Parking can be a challenge during busy hours. They serve bottled beer, as well.

Not what I was expecting honestly, though this was a sit down restaurant. You just order at the counter like Taco Bell. There are tables to eat at but it's a self serve place. No salsa or margaritas that I saw. Asked for salsa but they don't have any lol. Portion was fairly small even though it was lunch serving. Rice and beans were doused with some sort of sauce that was ok. Paper plates and all hahaha

I grew up in Hueytown,Al and Speedy's was our Sunday, after church, tradition. When I was little I honestly couldn't stand Tex Mex, Mexican food, but I always LOVED Speedy's humungous taco salads, and their mind blowing Combo burritos. There's nothing out of the norm with their recipe, or ingredients, nothing that's a radical departure from any other recipe, as far as I can tell, but there's honestly nothing better. Their salsa is phenomenal. I don't know what they make it from, but I've never had another like it. It haunts my taste buds, in the greatest way possible.
I moved away from Hueytown over twenty years ago, and I found myself always wanting their food. i have seriously driven over 7 hours on occasion, just to go get some of their amazing, delectable, other worldly food and salsa. I've lived all over the country, lived in Texas, around some of the world's most authentic, best Mexican and Tex Mex restaurants, food carts, street taco vendors, and as amazing as that experience was, I still always found myself wishing that it was Speedy's.
Perhaps it's a psychological, childhood association, leaving a deeply seated love for their food and salsa? Perhaps they're evil geniuses, and brainwashed my taste buds, using the world's leading experts on food based psychological warfare? Or maybe it's just really and truly that phenomenal? Sadly, I don't get to go there nearly as much over the last few years. The only time I do ever seem to pass back through my hometown, is when I'm there for a loved one's funeral. And yes, it may be able to be inferred,that I may possibly choose to make that long drive, for my combo burritos and salsa, more so than being the dutiful family member. But that's because of the taste bud brainwashing, right?! I'm always horrified that I'll find out that they've closed or retired, or sold the restaurant off to someone that doesn't honor old ways. I'm always so fearful that I'll never again taste the sweet nectar of their salsa, the ambrosia that is their burritos. I can't recommended enough selling massive bottles of said salsa, and cryogenically frozen burritos. One day those could save the world, or at the very least, satisfy my intense cravings.
Until we meet again, hopefully sooner than later, never close, never stop doing what you do, and feel free to franchise to other states, please.

TL;DR
Food really really good. Me like a lot. May or may not be secret taste bud, mind control agents, hell bent on hometown taste bud domination.

We drove from Prattville to eat here and it was still good. We dined in and it was a very relaxing environment. the food was perfect and the tables and booths were clean. You can tell they pride themselves on their food as well as the restaurant.

The place looks outdated. I never really looked at it until my last visit but it seems the decor never changes or maybe I just don't go enough anymore. I wasn't impressed with the food this time around but I've been to this establishment many times and enjoyed every bite. I felt the food wasn't like it used to be. I had more chips than toppings it seemed. I always get the Speedy's Nachos. A good place to go and they do have outstanding chips and dips. I will definitely go back. Great service and they are quick to get orders out.

It was just ok. Not a lot of flavor in the food. My first time there and I told them so but they didn't even offer me sauce for my tacos. I found out afterwards they had sauce bottles behind the counter for dine in use. Cashier was not friendly or helpful at all. I prob won't go back again.

This is ANOTHER FAVORITE restaurant that my grandson Likes. I know you are Mexican, but he is crazy about your chicken. We went through the drive thru. No waiting. Order taker was pleasant. Cashier was nice and thanks! The parking lot and the drive thru areas were clean/no trash. Like I say "ANOTHER FAVORITE".

I decided to go to Speedys and pickup a Chicken and Beef Taco Salad. I added some guacamole and chips and salsa. I wish they offered a smaller size guacamole for when you just want a scoop added to your taco salad and I think chips and salsa should be given with each food order like all other Mexican restaurants do. If my taco salad alone wasn’t $11 I would say that keeping cost down is why but that is a premium price for a chicken and been taco salad. I paid $20.99 for my salad, chips and salsa for one, guacamole and a large tea. At those prices I think you could afford to give the chips and salsa with the order. Please consider a smaller size or at least a cheaper price to add guacamole to the salad without having to buy a container of guacamole dip just to add it to the salad. Most restaurants offer a 1oz to 2oz serving when you just want it added to your salad and charge .99 to $1.25 to add it to the salad. Other than that the food was great. I live and hour away and came there just to get a good taco salad. I went through the drive through and took my salad home.

The young lady at the window was nice the 10 dollars I paid for the nachos was not good it was packed with beans very slim on the beef and lots of can cheese sauce . I've had the chicken soft tacos before and it was fair . I will not be ordering the nachos again

I honestly didn't know Speedy's was still open in a different location. Just yesterday while riding with my 30 year old son, leaving Regions Bank Fairgrounds, I told him the best Mexican restaurant ever in Birmingham was Speedy Gonzales that was in that building across the street, now a daycare center. I told him how me & classmates from Miles College would travel 12 deep in 3 cars & go to Speedy's on lunch and would order the nacho salad, taco supreme, burritos and 12 glasses of water & share off each others plate because the servings were so big! Hey! It was 1993, we were starving college students and didn't have much money between the 12 of us!

Food was great fresh & warm. The store was very nice & clean and the employees were very helpful and nice. I would definitely recommend Speedy's to anyone and I will be back in the future. My only problem was they need to turn the heat up on the hot sauce. Good job yall.

I've been eating at Speedy's since they were by the fairgrounds when I was a child. I've never had a bad taco salad. I don't think they've ever made a bad one. Their enchiladas are the taste of home for me.The Speedy White dip and chips should be on a list of 100 things to eat before you die. I only have two words of advice if you visit, Try Everything.

This hole in the wall has been a staple for Hueytown and surrounding communities for as far back as I can remember. Always has the nicest and most polite staff and the food... Well, try it out for yourself!

This place definitely got my business. By far the best Taco Salad I have had. Not to mention the size of the taco salad, it was huge. Which made it well worth the price. And you can't forget your dessert, try the Fried Cheesecake. It was even better!!!

I discovered Speedy's years ago (40 yrs.) when it was called Speedy Gonzales. The food was fantastic then. I was finally back in my old neighborhood again with my brother who had never eaten there. I asked him to see if the restaurant was still there. To my delite it was there. I was not disappointed and now my brother has a new favorite place to eat. Service was great, the food was really good and in portions large enough to satisfy your hunger.

I was just served a taco salad with a shell so tough that a fork wouldn't even go through it. When I called the manager she told me that they had changed their products because they were not able to get the original shell. She claimed that there was a note but I haven't seen it I don't understand why you wouldn't tell someone that while they're ordering it or before they order it. I will not be back. They should take the item off the menu,, instead of taking people's money and giving them excuses instead of what they paid for, and are use to. This what you call bad business.

I know this isn't authentic Mexican food, but still l....it is just plain good. Hands down better than taco bell and the portion sizes are large. A bit pricey for a perceived fast food restaurant, but worth every dime. Very clean. Employees very friendly. You will like it. Oh, and get extra chips.... for a tasty salsa.
