It was an alright restaurant. We got the nachos with chicken, the Fuego burger, and the mushroom Swiss burger. The chicken on the nachos was dry and the taste was ok. We also got the strawberry mango margarita. It was very sweet. I would potentially recommend it but I just feel the food wasn't great but alright.

I was in town for a family event and my son recommended this spot for brunch. The brunch is something they only offer on the weekends, from what I was told.

We had a party of ten and sat outside on the patio. This is not an upscale or classy location that you’d expect in the gorgeous Birmingham area it’s located in. But I really loved the vibe! I can imagine what a cool spot it must be at night time with the spirits flowing and the atmosphere.

The brunch menu didn’t offer an awful lot of options but we all got something we really enjoyed. I had the brunch sandwich, which my son recommended. It has jalapeño bacon and avocado. Need I say more?! It was so yummy!

What I was impressed with was how incredibly fast our food arrived! We had no sooner ordered our food, paid for it, grabbed our drinks and sat down on the patio before the food arrived! All the servers were hardworking and pleasant.

I hope to come back to this location and try some more of their dishes!

I love coming here! Katie is an awesome bartender. Very good Latin and American food. The queso and Chips appetizer was "ok". But....The fried fish tacos are awesome! The tinga nachos were good too! They also have a strawberry bsalmic margarita that I had to have three of! Cool laid back vibes and good food. Nice date spot on a Friday night.

Update: we’re back! Katie is awesome!!!! We sat at the bar again. Same order added tater tot Cho’s appetizer (very very good).

If you haven't eaten at Rojo lately, you're missing out. I have never had a bad meal here. From the sexy Pollo sandwich to the quesadillas, loaded tots, and everything in between, it's all fantastic. Lately, I always order the Chicken Caesar Pasta. It's out of this world delicious.
I have always gotten it via DoorDash, but I wanted to make sure to leave a comment here, too. Whenever, I have left special instructions, they're always followed & exceeded. So many restaurants barely pay attention to the orders themselves, much less special instructions.
Rojo has quickly become my favorite place to get lunch. Hopefully one day soon, I'll be able to stop and eat in the restaurant.

Place was really busy on a Sunday but to be fair there are a lot of places closed on Sundays and Mondays in the area. Few seats inside and lots outside.

Order at the counter, take a number tile and they bring the food out. They are often busy so it can take some time but very reasonable.

The staff was kind and food was good (not great but good).

We routinely order out from here and every now and then go sit and eat at Rojo and we love it every time!! The patio area is wonderful and the food is always tasty. We love grabbing a bite and eating it in highland park! Our go-to tends to be the taco wings, the tat-chos, and every now and then we will get a burger. The most recent time we ordered out through doordash, they did little drawings on our to-go boxes!! It’s the little things that fuel my dopamine rushes 😂❤️ love you too Rojo!

Staying for a couple of days in the area, my girlfriend and I stopped in to grab some food and a drink. The tomatillo salsa was really good, a subtle heat to it made it better. Ordered a steak burrito and was a little surprised that the ends were open and the "steak" had the look of ground beef....it was okay. My girlfriend ordered the chicken burrito bowl, she maybe finished half of it and didn't want to take the leftovers. The drinks were good....but probably would go elsewhere if in the area again.

The restaurant is pretty decent has good sitting areas both indoor and outdoor but the food wasn’t that great we had ordered steak fajita and steak fajita salad; the steak was chewy and had no spices at all looked like it was pressure cooked the sauces were good which helped and we ordered chips with spicy salsa I guess the chips tasted it like they were stale and the salsa didn’t taste good either . But the mahi mahi taco was good and fresh we could taste the grilled Smokey flavors of mahi mahi and tortillas were fresh too

I can’t say enough good things about Rojo. Not only is the food amazing, the staff is out of this world, too. I recently placed a timed takeout order but was caught behind a bad wreck on my way to pick it up, delaying me by almost an hour. The staff didn’t bat an eye. They re-fired the order for me so it was piping hot by the time that I arrived. It’s the little things like that that keep me coming back to Rojo again and again. Awesome stuff all around.

Updating my review. Either the food has gotten slightly better or I'm just used to it now. Nevertheless, it's still not good and they know it. The drinks and atmosphere is what they are selling, and that makes it worth it.

We have dined here on multiple occasions, and keep saying that we will not go back. The food is bland, unappetizing, and just not good. The atmosphere is nice, which is why we keep trying it. But we are disappointed every time.

Rojo never fails to be AMAZING!! Tonight, I did a bacon cheeseburger (taking a break from my favorite - chicken/shrimp paella). The burger was amazing and I’m generally a burger snob! Love this place, the food, and the vibe!!

Rojo is a staple in the area and I can’t imagine Birmingham without it! Tucked in beautiful Highland Park this gem is a must stop for the local atmosphere and diverse eats. Many gluten free/vegan options, dine in or to go… stuck at home? DoorDash it!!! You have to try the David’s Quesadilla, it’s a personal favorite. Stop in for open mic night for a good time or visit during any other special nights/events. Thank you for everything Rojo!❤️

Overall it was a typical dining experience. My wife got the bean burger, fries and a water, I got the fuego burger fries and a drink. 42 dollars seemed like a lot especially without having to tip. The fuego burger was good, the habanero sauce on the side is good, not too spicy at first but it creeps up on you. Both of are fries were really soggy.

We decided we would try this place out for lunch. I had the bacon cheeseburger, the wife had the chicken tacos and daughter had the grilled chicken sandwich. The burger was dry. My wife’s tacos fell apart. Half of the chicken was cold and half was warm. Chicken sandwich was OK. Food was average.

This is a hip spot in Highlands, one of Birmingham's coolest neighborhoods. There's a huge selection of American and Latin items on the menu, so it's a great choice for groups with differing tastes. The food is fresh with deep flavor, perfect for discerning tastes Dining on a budget. The service was good but not overly friendly. They did a really nice job of making sure we were satisfied, including comping some sides that didn't make it on our original order. Rojo definitely deserves a visit.

My husband and I hosted a rehearsal party for my son and his bride last weekend. The food was really delicious and the atmosphere was fun and relaxing. Belinda,the event manager, was patient,friendly, and very helpful. Our bartender, Jake, managed the evening with ease and a big smile. All in all, Rojo knocked it out of the park !

Good food, great staff, interesting customers. Nice vegetarian options based on Mexican staples. I always get the nachos and at some point I hope to be able and recreate their flavor and texture. One of the food items that is better here than in my kitchen. I usually get a vegetable burrito and order the flame inducing Habanero puree on the site. Good beer selection, fun bar and bartenders, really convenient side bar for live music, sport casts, and larger groups, and the best and most dog friendly patio in Birmingham.

This is a great place to grab Latin or American food. You order at the bar and then it’s brought to the table. We eat here frequently. I particularly like the Philly cheesesteak, David’s quesadilla, fried fish, tacos, and burrito. The hamburger is also good. It has a full bar and there. Margaritas are really good as well. The staff is very nice and friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual With a wide variety of people. It truly is a great place in the neighborhood.

A neighborhood favorite, perfect for people- and dog-watching. My all-time favorite drink here is the spicy skinny margarita - the spice is delicious and perfectly offsets the stevia-sweetened margarita (which is superior because it is less syrupy and filling!). Chicken tinga is a welcome new addition to the food menu, its flavor is wonderfully balanced and it is available on nachos, a salad, or tacos.

My only complaints recently are that the portion of fries has gotten awfully small (I barely had enough to go with a cheesesteak the other day), and the last time I ordered mahi mahi tacos, the fish was cut into narrow strips (a first) and had a strong taste.

Greeted by an impossibly handsome man "First time here?" I panicked and froze and couldn't think! I mean intimidatingly handsome. But he was patient (and probably used to that).

Environment: Yes, packed. Also, spaced well so you don't feel like you're at a rave.

Vibe: Mellow. Courteous. Easy.

Food: So long, abs! Delicious! Worth every minute of cardio.

Staff: Concise and patient. Answer all your questions without being needy extroverts. Best of all, they want your feedback but don't hover.

Fish Tacos for the win, bandito salsa is also a staple.. Super dog friendly, fresh water and dog bowls. Can’t leave the bar out, they are experts and you couldn’t want for anything they do not have on shelf.

My husband and I had the chips, guacamole, queso, chicken Fajita salad, steak and chicken fajitas and a sangria swirl margarita. The guacamole and my margarita were the best of what we ate.

We sat outside because it was cold inside and the fans were too strong. It blew the napkins around and cooled the food off. Not a good dining experience and we won't be back.

I came here for the paella read the reviews thought I would give it a try.. looked more and tasted like gumbo on a plate. Nothing like what real paella is. I just got back from a trip to Spain and it looked and tasted nothing like what I was given.. next time I will not get that when I come other than that it was ok ..

[Original review 3 ⭐️ ] We had a private group event for about 35 people and a special guest speaker. The space tight, but the staff did their best to accommodate.

There was an unfortunate exchange with James when one of our attendees asked ‘why he needed to move his car if the ordinance expired at 6pm?’.
The response he received was not professional. When asked about it, James did apologize for his attitude and word choice.

The tilapia was delicious, but overall, it was just ok and I will explore some of the other restaurant options next time I’m in town.

One of the workers verbally assaulted me with profanity. We had a group of over 30 people. We parked in a freight zone after 6pm. We followed the law. He made an announcement that we had to move our vehicle, I questioned his assertion and I was cussed out. It was hard for me to maintain my composite to go back to my group. I felt no justice in this as I was told no manager was on duty.

I have dined here twice when visiting Birmingham. On both occasions I had such a great experience. The food is delicious (I stick to something Southwestern), the salsas are awesome, and the service is exceedingly friendly. I want to dine here again and try more menu items. The employees are outstanding; the neighborhood is charming; and the food is several levels above similar type establishments. I highly recommend - and you can dine inside or on the adorably cute patio in front.

James is the absolute SWEETEST!
There was an issue with My last order...dasher was a thief. I reached out (after being compensated by DD) to let them know the same order coming through again wasn't an accident and to please tie My bag.
He sent a brownie for My troubles! So kind.

Thank you James. I wasn't expecting that and it put a smile on My face.

Carmen and Courtney were the best! Came in last month while visiting and they were extremely helpful. The food was awesome, and the drinks were even better. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Birmingham!
