Taco Mama - The Summit

I am visiting from out of town. Visited during late afternoon this week. Ordered 2 tacos. One with the barbacoa beef and the other with shrimp. The shrimp were completely raw. The beef was great but after noticing the shrimp was raw I couldn’t eat anymore and left.

First timer to this Taco Mama location (second visit to a Taco Mama in all). My mom and I both ordered nachos - grilled chicken with lots of veggie toppings for her, and shredded chicken with rice, refried beans, and all the cheeses for me.

We were shocked when they brought our plates out!! They were filled to overflowing! We laughed and said that the person who took our order should have warned us about the size when we ordered - like, really examine your post-meal plans before you order nachos here - you will be fill to the point of miserable!! Haha!!

No, in all seriousness, the nachos were fabulous!! And this is probably very random, but the fountain Diet Coke is spot on!! Like, some fountain drinks aren’t mixed correctly, but these are perfect!!

We love Taco Mama! My daughter had the Veggie Mix Nachos. It was enormous! It can easily be shared among 2-3 people. I had The Judge Burrito Basket. It was delicious! Taco Mama salsa is definitely my new favorite salsa.

Great spot to grab lunch. Had the Hippie Fisherman with shrimp with the street corn as a side, and some extra chips and queso. All of it was great.

I like Taco Mama for several things. The burrito bowls, little tacos, the guacamole, and the Mercedes margarita. They use fresh ingredients, and have a wide variety of Tex-Mex dishes. I never feel bad about what I eat here.
However, both locations I have been in have been cramped and loud. Even the patio seating doesn’t seem to assist with the din and packed-in seating. It needs more space, especially considering its popularity with families...
Maybe we were there when it was super busy, but there wasn’t a line to order like other times I have been there. Great food, decent price.

To be frank, I've never had a bad experience at Taco Mama. Regardless of the location. Like the others I've visited, they have some of the best restaurant staff. And the food is always fresh, tasty, and what I expect when visiting. They are really consistent. And, I am usually very consistent with ordering nachos. I took a family member who has never been to Taco Moma and I am sure they gained another customer as she enjoyed the food and service received as well.

Ordered a sizzler basket with soft shells. The thing about tacos is that their finger food, you eat them with your hands. ALL the meat came laid out horizontally on top, as if they forgot there was supposed to be meat at all. Made it very difficult to actually eat. Once I took a bite, it was immediately clear that it had been hugely oversalted. Since this is the only taco mama I've been to that had either of these issues, I won't go back to this location. The people were lovely, though

This is a nice location with shops around. The environment is really casual and laid back. They have taco and burrito baskets as well as quesadillas and build your own options. I got the mayor taco basket that has 2 chicken tacos, chips, salsa and a side (ancho chile slaw). Everything was warm and tasty. The chips were light and crispy. The salsa was fresh.The chicken was seasoned and juicy. The slaw was sweet and crunchy. The la playa drink is also fairly good. Everything was delicious. The service was super quick and the workers came by to check on us multiple times.

It was loud, felt like a college party. The staff was friendly, but my main issue with the food is it felt very Americanized and everything was soaked in lime and cilantro and I just happen to be with one of those people who thinks cilantro tastes terrible

The service was top notch! We were welcomed immediately by a young man and the menu was explained when he found it was our first time in. He later checked on us again while we were deciding and gave his recommendations. Food was great! I was thoroughly surprised to see tofu on the menu and it was incredible to see that it actually was thought out and tasted great. Fantastic experience.

For whatever reason the menu is not the same as online. But also it says there’s no pick up times available. Makes no sense just tell me when I CAN pick up. not refuse

Food isn't bad, but it's basically like a Moe's Southwest Grill in its hay-day. The service is fine, but it's hard to rate it as a 5, when all they do is take your order and bring you your food. The only real problem I have is the price, but then again I think any place that charges $17 for a single entree and drink is expensive. Of course, I don't believe we'll ever see prices come down and wages inline with spending, so enjoy it until you can't, then enjoy the soup line. Welcome to the new world!

I have mixed feelings about our first time here. The atmosphere is awesome, staff were very nice and welcoming, my issue was the food. My husband and I both ordered menu items with steak but it was tough and cold. My tacos had all the toppings inside of it and the odd shaped cuts of steak sitting on top. It just didnt make sense and really underwhelming.

I loved the Judge Burrito with Mexican Mac'n'Cheese! And my hubby liked the BBQ Tacos, but loved the queso and the Street Corn! I didn't get a chance to try the Margheritas (backup driver here ;) ) but everyone who partook looked like they were enjoying them! It IS pretty pricey in my opinion. One burrito with chips and mac'n'cheese was close to $14, and 2 BBQ tacos with a side were about $13. But it was good food and they were really well-staffed for the crowd! Overall; good food and atmosphere!!! Thank you for a wonderful dinner!

I like that there's lots of meat in my burrito. I didn't like there wasn't much flavor to the burrito itself. You definitely need to add the salsa for it to be any good.

It was a bit loud, but maybe the younger crowd is into that, otherwise food was great! Would love to see them spread to Louisiana. One improvement I'd suggest is getting glasses for Margueritas, the place is so good, it deserves better than adult drinks in plastic.

My wife and I were visiting from Mobile, and we stopped in the Summit TM on our way to REI. The service at this Taco Mama was superb. We've eaten at the Mobile TM, and the food here was its usual excellent quality, but the service is what blew me away. The service in the Mobile store is ok but perfunctory... they do the bare minimum. The Summit store staff was exemplary. My wife didn't notice that she had knocked a fork on the floor until an employee showed up with a replacement fork. The Mobile store employees wouldn't do that.

The staff is friendly and go out of their way to be helpful, the place is always lively and the whole operation has genuinely good vibes. By some miracle we are always able to find a table even when the line is out the door which it usually is. But to echo a sentiment previously expressed by another reviewer, something about the food at this location is just not quite right. And its pretty consistent. Meat is cold and tough and everything just feels generally under seasoned or prepared way ahead of time. Hell, the food almost comes out TOO fast. My only other complaint, and this seems to be true of all Taco Mama locations, the margs feel like they are practically virgins. Tasty, yes, but couldnt give a toddler a buzz. Now no one is looking to get ripped at a Taco Mama but cmon yall.

I was there yesterday and had the worse experience ever, we have been going there for a long time and yesterday they just had my order all wrong. I ask for a coke and I got a negra modelo when I told the manager about the misunderstanding he got upset gave me my money back for the beer but was rude about it like if it was my fault. When the girl took my food out it was wrong and when she fix the problem with my food she tells me it’s cuz only white people come here. I’m Mexican and come here all the time! What do you mean only white people come here?? Then the manger goes around and asking the other guest who was everything but does not come to my table. I was very respectful never had an attitude I just order what I order all the time I go and got it all wrong ok maybe the guy at the register is new but don’t take it out on me like if was my fault!

I stopped in on my way through town and placed a to-go order. The server/cashier was very pleasant. At the end of my order I asked if there was butter on the street corn, she said yes and then, without me saying anything, told me the guac had sour cream in it and went back and changed our orders to make them vegan. Excellent work! Most people would not have given that question any thought but she was awesome and really saved us. Great spot to get a delicious, vegan meal!

Taco Mama offers excellent service and boasts a delightful atmosphere. The staff is attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming experience. However, it's worth mentioning that the food prices are slightly higher compared to the quality you receive. While the dishes are flavorful and the portions are generous, the overall value may leave something to be desired. Nonetheless, if you have an appetite for sizable portions and a pleasant ambiance, Taco Mama is certainly worth a visit.

Lively taco bar with a good amount of outdoor seating. Friendly and fast service. Order at the counter and find your own seat. Arrived at 11:45am on a Saturday - small line and had no trouble finding a seat. When we left at 12:30, the line was out the door and almost onto the street.

Ordered the Justice is Served (flounder) and Ahi Tuna taco baskets with refried beans, Mexican mac & cheese, and guac as sides. All reat, though fair warning: the mac & cheese does not have any peppers or spices to make it taste particularly Mexican. Chips and salsa in particular were outstanding. Will be back to try all the other combinations!

It is a so so place. Burrito was not properly prepared. The beef was all at one end , most of it was lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. I didn't care for it. If you just need place to put something in your belly this place is ok.

Love Taco Mama generally, and this location is typically good. It’s not the best and not the worst. Generally you can’t go wrong with any Taco Mama but this one has served food that’s cold and over/under-seasoned in past visits. Still good, just not the best experience every time.

Repeated my order 3x as he nodded continuously like he heard me the first time but kept getting it wrong. I still got the wrong thing. Asked for crunchy tacos,pork and queso cheese with side of rice. The only thing I got right was the rice and pork. No cheese and had to take meat off the soft shells after I went up and got my cheese. I wouldn't have cared but I can't eat wheat flour. Have to try to eat gluten free due to celiac. It also wasn't good. I could have went to taco Bell and it would have been better. My granddaughters order was all messed up too. We're sweet girls and I don't like leaving a bad review but it is what it is...he also rolled his eyes as I was trying to make sure he'd gotten it right. We spent 30 bucks and left hungry.

We came to Birmingham ,from NWA on June 17!, it’s a long Drive ! My friend & I were in town for a Wedding! We stayed about a bk away from Your restaurant!!! First time to this restaurant.

I went on tuesday night and there was still a line to order. It took about 15 minutes but a bad wait overall. The crowd and music was lively so the time passed quickly.

The food and drinks came out quickly. The margarita tasted great. I tried the chessy beef tacos and chips. The tacos were good but I must admit I did not detect any cheese.

The crowd was lively and the atmosphere was fun. All of the staff I spoke to was friendly and having fun with the guests.

The food is extremely fresh which is nice. My bf got a steak soft taco and the steak was very good. I got the mayor without tomato and it lacks flavor. The chicken has no spice or flavor except regular chicken flavor. Where’s the spice? So Bland. The salsa has no spice, queso no spice. Gimmie some mexican spice. Also I asked for hard tacos and they gave me soft.

Love this place! The food portions are huge for the cost! I would recommend the quesadillas, they come with a huge spread of dips and chips! The only thing I personally don’t prefer is the business of the restaurant in such a close space. If you don’t mind that it won’t bother you, if you do… just order take out. The line to order can get lengthy, if that happens… run outside and place a to go order. It will be ready in 5 minutes!!

So I love taco mama and have eaten many times at multiple locations since they opened. We get the tacos galore as a family meal once a week and just found out they removed it from the menu. Very disappointing. Now the same amount of food is twice the cost.

Great food! My favorite meal is the shrimp taco or fish taco with chips and queso. I also have had the shrimp burrito and fish burrito (I think I love those more than the tacos. They are definitely more filling) 😊

Always a good experience at Taco Mama. Get the taco basket, which consists of 2 tacos, some chips and salsa. Many options, I've had most of the tacos at this point and never been disappointed. Definitely recommended.

The food was good, but what really impressed me was the staff. We came in 15 minutes before they closed, and I'm sure everyone was tired and ready to go home. But every person we encountered was friendly, and helpful. They are excellent employees and I will definitely go back because of my experience.

The amount of food you get for the price is great. Food is really good and fast to come out.

This place is amazing! The tacos are really good! They have a kids menu, gluten free options, and vegan/vegetarian options as well. Totally recommend for a family. They have a very fun decorative inside! Just a great place overall.
