University Tacos and Burritos

The steak and chorizo nachos are ridiculous! I expected them to be good because many people told us their food is good but I assumed, like many places, you'd get a pile of chips and little toppings... not the case here, they are LOADED!!! Seriously the best nachos I've ever had.

A taco lover's dream come true! The tacos were absolutely delicious, with authentic flavors that transported me straight to Mexico. The Tinga tostada was a standout, bursting with flavor and perfectly crispy. The prices were reasonable, and the generous portion sizes left me feeling satisfied. If you're craving some mouthwatering tacos, I highly recommend this place :)

I walked in and wasn't sure what to order. I asked them what they recommended and they said the Campechano Street Taco. Wasn't something I would typically order but figured I would give it a try. The dish was made fresh to order on corn tortillas that were dipped in a seasoning sauce then grilled on the flattop with a cheese melted on the tacos. The dish was very good. I would definitely recommend it. The spicy green salsa was also delicious had a great flavor. If you're in downtown Birmingham it's definitely worth a try!

Was in town for business and staying at the Hilton across the street. I figured I would try this since it was within walking distance. I read many reviews stating how great the steak burger was so I figured I would give it a try. It was absolutely fantastic not to mention huge. This place is great for a quick lunch on campus. A couple of street tacos with chips won't set you back too much and the service is quick and friendly. Their carnitas are pretty good and when you pair it with a little lime juice and their spicy green salsa, it's pretty amazing. Worth adding to your campus dining rotation!

couldnt even try the damn food after driving over an hour specifically for this restaurant, my bf and i walked in for them to yell at us that were closed at 4:30 when it said online 6pm. no sign no social media post nothing that they were closing early. thanks to the two girls for ruining my saturday night 🫶🏼

Food wasn't good to me. I had 1 shrimp soft taco which was ok ok. And chicken and steak nachos which were horrible. No queso but regular shredded cheese. I threw away 15 for nachos.

This place is filled with incompetent staff all around. From preparing the incorrect food, to taking the order wrong, even being rude to the customer. Complete incompetence. Paying extra for queso and guac that they “forget” to put in the bag not once, but THREE separate times. I will be going to literally ANY other Mexican restaurant in town because this place is not it.

This restaurant has an amazing environment. All employees are extremely welcoming and know how to treat everyone with a smile on their faces without fail. The location of the restaurant is very convenient and the vibe in general is amazing. The owners are very respectful and motivated to serve a great meal. The food was absolutely delicious. I could not stop eating no matter what I did. You could tell the food is authentic and made with love. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area and would definitely come back for another great meal.

This place is fantastic. The decor is tasteful and there is ample seating. Great authentic Mexican food as well as Tex-Mex and American cuisine. My go-to are the al-pastor street tacos. They are perfection and come with a side of chips. Their red and green salsas are great but my favorite is their hot sauce which you have to special request. It comes in a tiny container and is extremely spicy and delicious. Their queso and guacamole are also fantastic and come in 3 sizes depending on how hungry you are. They even had horchata and hibiscus tea (aka sorrel for Caribbean folks)! My friends have tried their burgers, fries, burritos, quesadillas, salads and apparently they are excellent. They often have long lines during lunch but they take your order and bring your food to your table extremely quickly. I cannot recommend this place enough. I have been a customer for many many years, since back in the day when their restaurant was less than half the size it is today. It is wonderful to see how they have grown and flourished while maintaining their exceptional standards.

Walked in because of the sign. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised. It felt like an authentic Mexican taqueria. I order two steak tacos, which were absolutely delicious, and Mexican rice, which tasted divine! Very authentic Mexican food for a price that won’t break your wallet!

We drove all the way from MS and tried them for their birria tacos , they were closing right before we ordered took our order charged us $30 , and the food was disgusting ! Unable to eat , meat was so tough , dry , no cheese , and tacos were soggy . Did not get the great experience, if we weren’t leaving today we would have went back first thing in the morning with both plates to get a refund .

I’ve ordered To-Go a few times when I’m in town at a hotel nearby. I’ve had a good experience previously with the food and service. However, today when I ordered the same burrito in a bowl as before, it was half the size of my previous orders. When I questioned it, I was told that’s the new bowl size. It’s tiny! Half the food for the same full price. I will no longer be back for business and don’t recommend it to anyone.

Friendly staff, clean shop, well-priced food and every single thing on the menu is 10/10 in the taste department. My usuals are the pastor and shrimp street tacos. Also really good nachos and birria. I literally go here almost every week for lunch and will do that until I graduate and beyond. They also just put a new birria sandwich on the menu and it's amazing.

This was my first time trying their food and it was really good. I had the quesabirria tacos and the meat was really tender and flavorful. The customer service was very quick and nice, and the interior was clean and well designed. This is a must try if you want authentic tacos.

Ummmm this place would never survive in places where people know good Mexican food. I spent $30 for 3 tacos, queso, rice, and a drink. I'd pay half of that in LA or Chicago and the taste would be a million times better. Definitely not coming back.

I’m flight crew, we stay across the street. I might just bid for this overnight to eat the pastor tacos here. Tender pastor, fresh ingredients, delicious! Pastor can be greasy, it is not at all here, it’s perfect!! Fast and friendly service. Yum yum!

Loved the street tacos and they come with chips & salsa. We have other patrons recommend some of the combo platters. There were lots of people and the flow of ordering and being seated is a little awkward, but we were treated kindly and the food came out promptly. It could become a regular meeting place for me and friends that work downtown.

I have been going to this place for years, before and after the pandemic. I saw the place grew from a takeout place with one lady server to a large restaurant with tables and chair to sit down. The most special thing is about meeting the lady server. She always smiles. Always genuinely interested in helping out. Always greeted personally as if she were an old friend serving you at home. Coming to this restaurant after a half day of stressful is a timely joyful recharge!

It's one of my favorite lunch spots near the UAB medicine side of campus. Delicious food that makes you want to go back for more. Prices are pretty much the same as everything now a days, but it's worth it. They also have horchata, and it's great.

This restaurant gets quite busy for lunch (for good reason) but their breakfast is quieter and equally as great. The breakfast burritos have everything you could ask for and the portions are enough to keep you full for most of the day. It's a common recommendation of mine for a big breakfast!

I love this place!! They have great tacos and even sell birria during the week. The atmosphere is so calm and cute. The place is very clean and the staff is so friendly. They serve each dish with chips and salsa which I found and interesting choice but I guess it's trying to seem similar to places like Taco Mama...but it's fine. I like that they also have Agua de horchata and Agua de Jamaica as drink options alongside fountain drinks. Try this place for lunch please! Parking may be annoying though :( but that's just a Birmingham thing.

Being closer to UAB, this is a fantastic eatery that's budget-friendly yet tasty!!

- Tried Chorizo burrito, Al pastor burrito, Steak tacos. All of them were delicious!!
- Prompt service; friendly staff.
- Atmosphere was generic. Could be better. But not bad either.

This food makes you dance in your seat. You want to taste every bite fully. Yall may disagree but if you ain't eating at University Tacos. You missed out on something special. We had the steak nachos the Chipotle chicken Nachos"Highly recommend. We also had those tacos you dip amazing . A California Burrito. That no one wanted to give up so everyone could get a bite. The food was wonderful! I had the chicken burrito, and my husband had the chorizo burrito, and they were super stuffed! The chips and salsa were amazing! Just the right amount of spice. Service was friendly and fast. The decor is nice, but they only have one bathroom. They have about 6 tables inside and two tables outside. The price was great for the amount of food that you receive. Parking can be an issue, we had to park at a meter that was only 30 minute parking. This could be an issue if you want to dine in. Or if other places are busy in the area you will have to park a block away, and walk. But, we will definitely be back!

I had 3 street tacos. Azada, tinga, and pastor. Each bite was amazing, an explosion of flavor hitting me like a baseball bat. Oh, and the heat? It's there, it lingers, but it's not overpowering. Great place!

Food was pretty tasty, other then my husband's burger being ridiculously greasy. It was huge and delicious from what he said though! I had steak and chicken tacos and they were great! I thought it was more of a "sit down" restaurant but it's more of a fast food place since they don't wait on you, like refills etc. But overall enjoyed it, just could have delt with a little less grease on that burger.
