We went for truck parts then had the best time eating here this past Friday. It was some of the best Mexican food we’ve ever had. From the way it was presented to the sensational flavors it was one for the books! Our waiter was super polite and spoke Spanish with my little girl. She absolutely loved that and we’re definitely going to be back as soon as we can! More truck parts or not lol we’re coming to just eat!

After reading reviews we decided to try it out. What a mistake……. The margaritas were on special and were watered down….. we ordered the Texas fajitas and they came out cold….the peppers not even cooked and the dipping sauce that came with it was cold as ice. There supposed to be served sizzling……. Not!!! The waitress said sorry but offered nothing different. The shrimp was the best thing so we did give a 2 star for that reason. One of the worst Mexican food places we have ever been….

This is without a doubt the absolute best Mexican restaurant I have been to in the Birmingham area! The food and atmosphere is similar to what you would find at any other Mexican restaurant. However, this place just does it better. My meal was a rather simple dish. I had the nachos al carbon. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The portion size was also generous.

The only thing more impressive than the food was the service. My server was a nice young man, who was polite, professional, and attentive. He made sure my glass of Coca-Cola stayed full and had everything I needed. It is the best service I've ever gotten from any restaurant, anywhere.

This is how all restaurants should operate IMHO. Provide great food and great service and the people will always come back.

This place has been on my list for a long time. I was excited to finally get to stop and try it out. When I walked in, I was amazed at the atmosphere and how well decorated this location is we were greeted by a warm and welcoming staff member who took us to our table and promptly asked for our drink order, the chips and salsa were brought out which I must add. The salsa was delicious, but perhaps needed just a little salt since there was no salt or pepper on the table speaking of things on the table this restaurant offers a bottle of hand sanitizer which I noticed was at every table. I thought that was a very unique gesture, which are utilized. We ordered steak fajitas and a picture of lime margaritas on the rocks. Both came out quickly. The margaritas were delicious and the steak fajitas were extraordinary. They even came with a sauce or juice like substance that I gladly poured over my fajitas which only increased the taste and juiciness, the staff continue to check on us throughout our visit making sure that we had everything we needed. I found this to be a wonderful experience and so glad that I finally had an opportunity to stop. We were informed that there’s already a location in Birmingham and another location that will be open soon in Pelham. I look forward to the day when we can return and have another wonderful meal. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is in the area looking for authentic Mexican cuisine.

First time eating here. Friendly staff.
Great atmosphere. Food had great flavors. Queso was really good. I had the chicken and rice which also came with onion and bell peppers. They did not skimp on the chicken. There was plenty of food. I could have used more rice and less bell peppers but it was still delicious. Will definitely be there again.

Our bill was over $60 for just my husband and I. They didn’t cook his food properly and got his order wrong. Definitely not the best food like everyone was saying. I understand now why the parking lot was empty.

We had a great experience at Mama Coco Cantina! We had contacted them ahead (about 2 weeks prior) of time about a large group 35 of us coming into the restaurant to eat, and asked them to have the meals ready for when we got there at 4pm (we sent a spreadsheet of our order the day prior to our visit). When we sat down, the meals were distributed right away by a very friendly and attentive staff. The food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back if we are in the area! 190 for 7 people to eat 🥰 definitely great for large groups of people and the food looks and tastes AMAZING 👏 🤩 great service too! And their portions are extremely generous 😇 edit to add: very kid friendly as well, the restaurant is actually based off the cartoon coco and they have tvs on with the movie on and others with football games etc. Also if you do have Littles with you they serve the babies first then the adults (which I absolutely LOVED)!

Service is always slow and I have to wait for refills. Food is good most of the time. Wife likes it but I prefer other Mexican restaurants. It's not that bad but I'd rather go somewhere where the service is better.

Order food through DoorDash My delivery was delivered to me I open up my bag The main entree is not in there I call the restaurant told him that they left my entree out and they told me I had to come down and pick it up why order DoorDash spend $10 on tip and delivery fee they have to come get my food anyway didn't even offer me anything and I love eating there but I won't be going back now it shouldn't cost me money or my time for their mess up and also by the time DoorDash gets me my food here and I have to drive down there and get the entree and I get back the rest of my food is ice cold $30 blown out the window

My husband and I have lived in Calera for 5 years, and have eaten at this establishment several times. Normally we are served at the bar by Jessica, whose customer service is phenomenal! Tonight was much different. We entered the establishment and sat at the bar. The young lady (long black hair wearing a crop top) bartending never greeted us, walked past several times, told us she'll be with us shortly.... Yet she never tended to us. We were the only 2 at the bar that were NOT Hispanic. After SEVERAL MINUTES, we left the establishment and will not be returning. We couldn't believe the treatment we received tonight.... I’ve been there twice now. The last time was last Sunday when I took my daughter for Mother’s Day, and my five-year-old grandson for his birthday. We had a great time, enjoyed the food and the staff sang happy birthday to my grandson. My daughter will be working in a salon right next-door starting next week, so I imagine I will be back there quite a bit.

It would be a zero if I could go there. I stopped in after work to relax and have my dinner. The margarita machine was messed up. I ordered a $10.95 combo dinner, sweet tea, and cheese dip. She charged me $28. I asked for a receipt, again the receipt machine was broke. I know in my heart of hearts my food was not $28 but I was tired and I had eaten my food. I WILL NEVER eat in this establishment again. I'm gonna make sure I tell all my folks and friends that frequent here what happened.

We haven’t been here in sometime. Unfortunately, like so many do, this restaurant started out with great ingredients and atmosphere. The food was very subpar and the entertainment was not at all what you would expect. Very old country via karaoke by one. Our service was excellent.

Walked into an almost empty restaurant at 5pm. More employees than customers. I was looked at, and then ignored by every single employee until 5:06. I told the little server girl "You're either too busy for me, or you don't want to make money today." Hey management, do you know why you have an almost empty restaurant now? It's because your customer service sucks. How do you expect to keep a business going when you ignore people at the door? My family and I are regular customers, and now we aren't. We were giving you a second chance after serving me raw shrimp last time, and you blew it. I won't be back, so don't even try.

Love Mama Cocos food!! but you need to know what not to order. Get spinach queso instead of queso. It is thick and creamy with corn and spinach. Regular queso is thin and very disappointing. Skip the Mexican guacamole ( usually my favorite dish) because it is mostly pico de Gallo and very little avocado. Every main dish we've gotten has been really good. Street corn is amazing!! Great Texas and Coconut Margaritas. A pitcher costs the same as two large drinks so it's a better deal if you have several people ordering margaritas. Ask if the flan is fresh. If so, it is the best flan you'll ever eat. Once it sits for a day or two, not so much. Service could be better- seems to be hit or miss based on the server. The menu is very extensive with lots of vegetarian options and unusual items you won't find at many other Mexican restaurants. We pass two other Mexican restaurants to eat here. Give it a try! 🌶️

To start off the place and the atmosphere is clean and kept up, but for food, wise and service it’s terrible. I ordered a quesadilla that consist of shrimp and steak. The shrimp was horrible and the steak could be used as Charcoal for how burn it was. The beans had so much grease. It was ridiculous straight out of the can. Don’t get me started on the rice the rice taste terrible it was mushy and undercook no flavor at all Queso tasted watery like they diluted it. This gets one star because of the Atmosphere is really saving it. If it wasn’t for the atmosphere, I would rate this place is zero at five stars🤷🏻‍♀️ I tell you from the reviews I saw at first I had hope and from what I’ve heard around town made me want to give it a try but never again my first and very last time ever coming here. For it to be the best “Mexican food in town”from what I saw from another review it definitely is not that 😬

Me and my grandpa went today for father's day and it was a lovely environment to be in the server was very quite and sweet as well overall a lovely experience would go again oh and the chips and dip were so good that I ate so much I could barely eat my fillet riviera as a prespatarian there fish dishes all looked lovely I recommend going to mama coco's for family dinners it's absolutely amazing. 💖

The food was delicious and the service was good. I had the fundido burrito with rice and beans. but what really sold me was their homemade house hot sauce! The red sauce was good but the orange sauce was unbelievable. Habanero based and actually pretty dang hot. I will definitely be going back to Mama Coco’s for lunch!

Been here twice now. Loved both dishes I've ordered - the chorizo enchiladas and the chilaquiles. Very thin tortilla chips and smoky salsa that is heavy on the cilantro.

Atmosphere was nice but customer service was awful! My family was taken to the back of the restaurant while passing all empty tables and when we inquired about we were asked 'well where do you want to sit'?? Waitress never showed up to take drink orders so manager had to step in. Waitress brought food which was the first time we ever saw her. Never refilled drinks or asked if we needed anything. We saw waitress again when it was time to pay. My family never plans on going back after our experience which is sad because Mama Coco was recommended to us by a friend.

Great food and excellent service! My wife ordered a street taco and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was served with plenty of meat which is where a lot of other restaurants have cut back. I ordered the grilled salmon, and it was cooked to perfection. The seasoning complemented the meat, and it had a nice sear that locked in the flavor without burning the meat. The sides of mango salad and rice were both savory, and the proportions were more than sufficient to be filling. The only negative was that we had to ask for a different table because the music was too loud where we were initially seated. We had a great time and will definitely be back for more.

This is a WONDERFUL new take for EXCELLENT AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD!
BUT we also ADORED THE SIMPLE BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK & STYLE OF THIS VERY COMFORTABLE RESTAURANT!!

WE ARE FROM Houston, TX & are just passing thru the area... But we were thrilled to find Mexican food that was not TEX-MEX.... but was FANTASTIC!! We enjoyed the street tacos & the Tortilla Soup was HEARTY & FILLING... BROTH WAS OUTSTANDING

If u are ever near Calera, Alabama & DONT take the opportunity to check this restaurant out, then all I can say is:

Our tradition after every Calera Christmas parade for the past 3 yrs is to watch for as long as the kids want & then hit Mama Coco's. The food & service never disappoints! Last night, we asked to be seated near the tv playing home alone. There wasn't a table ready so they changed 2 of the other tvs to it so our 8yr old could enjoy!

I called to make a take out order and the man on the phone was just rude ! I asked if I can get my rice without vegetables in the nicest way and he got an attitude and I’m not going to forget the fact that he kept cutting me off when I was trying to talk ! He also didn't ask me if I needed anything else he just hung up after I said he doesn’t have to worry about the rice ,I could have been ordering something else !! The lady who is always at the phone taking orders for takeout is way more manner able and respectful than he is !! I never had to complain like this but he needs to have better customer service than that!!.

This place was a complete surprise. It may not look like much on the outside but the inside is beautiful. The Disney decor on the inside is just an added bonus. The food was wonderful! So much better in comparison to the other Mexican food around here. The servers are attentive and nice. We will definitely be back.

Service was friendly except they wouldn’t turn down the air. It was very hot. They said it was room temperature but thermostat said 80 and that’s not room temperature in my opinion. Ordered two hard shell beef tacos. They had potatoes and carrots mixed in with the beef. It tasted fine but, just thought that was different and most people wouldn’t expect it or want it. Was my first time eating here so not much to go off and being uncomfortable from the heat was enough for a bad review.

My wife and I first started eating at Mama Cocos Cantina in January of '21 and eighteen months later we keep going back. This place has become one of our favorite places to eat and there's more reasons than I can list as to why.

But I will mention a few highlights: great food, great service, awesome atmosphere and an overwhelming list of choices on their menu that are all outstanding 👌. A few personal favorites are the Mexican Spaghetti, the Street Tacos, the Grande Burrito and the Mama's Dip as an appetizer.

As long as Mama Cocos Cantina is still around, I know that great food is just a short drive away (we live in Columbiana). We are huge fans!!!

First time here and we loved it! It was clean with a 95 rating and decorated just like the movie Coco! Good food and service!

This place is soooooo good! It's hard to wrap my brain around having the best Mexican restaraunt in Shelby Co. ALABAMA! What?! That's right. Mama Coco's in Calera, Ala. has got to be The Best Mexican restaurant I've been to in the USA.

It was hot in the restaurant. Our waiter could not understand English. The food was not good at all. Margarita was horrible. Not the best Mexican in town like the last review said!

Yesterday on 5/28/2022 I placed an order as I do every weekend on the phone for pickup. When I returned home I realized my order was incomplete. I returned to the restaurant and brought this to their attention. They proceeded to argue and try to charge me for the items that were missing, which were just rice and beans. After having to insist they finally gave me my rice and beans. Was not a pleasant experience.

Didn't even know this place was in my back yard. Now I wish it was a well kept secret, lol. This is by far the best Mexican food for MILES around. Maybe some of the best I have had.

By far my favorite place these people go way above for the perfect mix of great food and customer service. If you have not eaten here yet I'm telling you it is a must. (Update) they have expanded and it is still by far one of my favorites!!

Wow! This place is amazing. Excellent food, friendly waiters,even the supervisor's where going out their way to make us feel at home. Everyone one was attentive to our needs. Just a great place to go with that special someone.
