Dos Tequilas

We saw other reviews and looked at the menu before we went, I was very excited to try Dos Tequilas based on that alone .. However when we arrived it was completely different! The service was odd, our server was still doing her makeup at the bar and the menu was nothing like what we saw online (photos included). I give it 2 stars because it was edible and the margaritas were 2 for 1, that's literally the only reason. The salsa had tons of cumin in it and did not taste fresh, I couldn't even eat it and I will drink salsa haha. We shared the Chilaquiles and added steak, but instead of just adding steak they took off the eggs??? I am not sure if she misunderstood our order or what but it was very unfortunate. I think there must have been an ownership change because the decor and menu are nothing like what the reviews say. After finishing our meal we waited 15 minutes then finally went to the register and asked for our check then paid there, so... I am extremely disappointed in our choice to eat here. I added photos of the menu we received, I literally triple checked that we were at the correct restaurant 3 different times...

Good and flavorful food. The red sauce on my enchiladas was the only knock about the entire experience. It was ok, just not my personal favorite. Others may enjoy the sauce. The service was great and the inside was clean. I will definitely eat here again.

I found this small restaurant to be charming and comfortable. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Honestly I thought it was the best Mexican I’ve ever had. So many places all the food tastes the same. Ugh!
The ingredients at Dos Tequilas were so fresh and flavors delicious.
Looking forward to dining there again soon

Do not expect Dos Tequilas to be your typical Mexican restaurant experience. This place takes those typical dishes to another level. The food is superb! To be fair and completely honest the only criticism I have is the lighting is too bright. I feel like the atmosphere should be much darker and possibly even semi "candle lit" for dinner. The foods presentation and flavor is so exceptionally good that the atmosphere should match. However, this restaurant literally just opened its doors so I think all will come in time.

Service was exceptional and the Booth seating was comfortable. Bathroom was kept sparkle clean.

Their liquor license is coming soon, so do not expect beer or liquor right now but they assured us that it's happening very soon.

Aside from the lighting, the food and service easily earns this restaurant 5 stars from me.

Wow! What a wonderful experience and excellent food (and drinks).
We just tried out DoS Tequilas for the first time. The margaritas (on the rocks and frozen) were great. The appetizer was super and meals portions were great. Our waitress, Rebecca was super. We felt very taken care of and thoroughly enjoyed our time.
We’ve been to the other Mexican restaurants in Chelsea, including the new one, and this one is our new ‘go to’ choice!
Give them a try!

My favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is phenomenal!! Authentic food and great service. The staff is very friendly and helpful with selecting menu items. Food is always fresh. You can’t go wrong with whatever you choose from their menu. I could eat here literally every day of the week. The drinks are good also. My favorite dish so far is the shrimp and chicken quesadilla. Great location. Easy access with a lot of seating available. If you haven’t tried them yet, please do so.

Really enjoyed trying Dos Tequilas tonight. I got the steak burrito and my brother got the chicken and shrimp quesadillas. The server was super nice. I tried one of their house margaritas on the rocks. Everything was amazing! The taste was great, the service was great. The atmosphere is nice. Very low key date night ish. I'll be going back with my wife.

The margarita is not like a big chain margarita. It's very delicious but if you like your margs with a ton of sour mix or margarita mix this is not the margarita for you. This margarita is exquisite. It fits the food and the atmosphere!

No complaints here, we will be returning!

My wife and I were two of only four customers in the restaurant. We ordered two horchetta aquafrescas that were unmixed and overly watered down. For dinner we each ordered the chili relleno meal with beef, taco, burrito, beans and cheese. One of us received our relleno pepper with partly cooked meat. While the other never received the entire meal at all.

DON'T GO UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY ALOT IT'S Extremely expensive everything cost I understand making money but to charge so much extras to receive so little I mean their was alot of meat yes but stuff to go with it too little in the form of Tortillas to eat with is not good order a two person meal and they gave us 3 TORTILLAS for two people and asked for more was charged $1.50 for 3 more Tortillas $10 for queso blanco was charged for a appetizer and it's supposed to come with its own chips only got chips they give you with your salsa so I was shorted chips and I ordered also a chicken and steak meal I paid a extra $5 for jalapeños and onions I think they may have used only one jalapeños cut very fine onions was OK but for $5 I would like to have more veggies all together spent $78 to me not worth IT YOU CAN GO TO THE TACO TRUCK AT THE GAS STATION FOR CHEAPER EVEN LasMesa IS CHEAPER and taste wise just as good at least they know how to properly add veggies I paid a $1 at Los Mesa at dos taquillas was a total waste this restaurant is TexMex at best flour tortillas no corn if it's white corn tortillas still not authentic Mexican and beans are from a can not freshly cooked like in a real Mexican restaurant you can't be called a Mexican restaurant TexMex at best and I know Mexican food very well I speak Spanish and cook authentic Mexican food they don't even have carne asada 🙄and no need to apologize like the owner likes to do because even with the complaints nothing has changed I just wish I would have read more into the reviews before I stopped but my loss is yall gain cause I won't go back
UPDATE ::--ANSWER TO THE OWNERS REPLY - - it's not my job as a customer to tell you how you should treat and price your customers I worked in the restaurant field for years as a worker and in management if you charge someone $5 for veggies you give them what their paying for I asked before I got them and didn't receive enough for said money and as for the Tortilla Chips being charged and shorted that your employees job to properly give people what they pay for as a customer it's not my job to police you or your workers and I won't be coming back I will go to real Mexican Restaurants yo quiero más mejor comida lo siento

We have lived in Chelsea for a while and were excited to try. Their hours said they close at 10:30, when we walked in around 8, the staff literally looked at each other outwardly showing their annoyance that we walked in. Food was okay but nothing special. Main issue is that we ran out of our drinks and once our server brought our food, she never came back to check on us. We finally accepted that we weren’t getting refills but it wasn’t until the 3rd time of trying to get someone’s attention that we finally were able to ask for our check. Server and the other employees were too busy gossiping at a booth across the restaurant to do their jobs I guess or notice that we were trying to get their attention. The service is the reason that we will not be back….if customers coming in over 2 hours before close is such an inconvenience, maybe change your hours.

Today was Mother's Day. Both my wife and mother-in-law received roses. Our hostess and server, Andrea is the queen of hospitality. The chef takes Mexican standards and elevates them to am new taste level. My favorite is the Chorri Pollo. Ground chorizo and quest sauce top a spicy perfectly grilled chicken breast. The food is great, but if you expect it to be 'just another Mexican restaurant' (with the same options and same-ish tastes), you'll either be disappointed or thrilled because it is different! Highly recommend trying, it'll either be a new favorite for Mexican night or a one and done with no harm no foul!

*1/7/24. Dos Tequilas is all over it! They responded to my review within 24 hours, and appreciate the response. One request would be a flank steak sliced and cooked to order (i.e. medium rare, medium, etc) for the fajita meat rather than the thinly sliced well done philly-steak style fajita meat. That could take it to the next level. :-D

Also, agreeing with another poster, dimmer more initmate lighting & atmosphere would also benefit. Happy hour pricing before 7p might be a good idea too.

Dos Tequilas was pretty good. We just moved here and have been searching around for a couple weeks for good Mexican food. We came from Texas so we are learning what the different types are here. Definitely don't have carne asada or flank steak based fajitas, it's more like Philly cheese steak mix that is well done. That may just be a regional style that we aren't used to. It was rather pricey, three adults and one child including gratuity was over $120. My wife and I even split in entree, four drinks between the adults.

Very disappointed. Decided to try this place to see if it was worth putting on our list. I placed the order for a 2:15 pickup and got there a few minutes early. It was already on the counter and when I got home (6 minutes), it was completely cold. The food was not terrible but I expect more for $65+ dollars. Will not be going back.

Fresh and great tasting food and excellent service. Excellent ventilation. You don't come out smelling like a Fajita. Please blend the salsa a bit more. There was a piece of tomato so big, that my chips were breaking when I was trying to pick it up.

We are so lucky to have this amazing restaurant in Chelsea. The empanadas, enchiladas and Dos Tequilas Margaritas are my favorite in the entire Birmingham area.

We waited very long for our waitress to come. It was only my husband and I and one other couple in the whole restaurant. She spent most of the time talking with the other table and the children in there.
We must have come at a bad time.
Food was ok. Cheese dip was good. Was never offered tea refills.
We probably won't be back.

We finally got to go to this place. I usually get several things ala carte because I like to try a bunch of different things but this place isn’t like that although our waitress said I could so for the main course I got the PARRILLADA DOS TEQUILAS
Steak, Chicken, Shrimp, and sausage , it was fabulous. The sausage surprised me on how good it was and it had a spicy kick that was just right. I also got a taco and an enchilada , and they were both great. I don’t drink except for a frozen lime margarita which I got while waiting on my wife to finish eating. Our waitress was Alecia.she was excellent answering our questions as it was out fort time eating here. She brought out everything additional we asked for. She is a great waitress , we will be back soon.

I've gone several times and it has always been some of the friendliest service I have received for anywhere. The staff feels like they are happy to be there and the food is AMAZING. I have yet to get something I don't like.

The margaritas, food, and service are all excellent! I would turn the fluorescents off and turn on the cafe lights for a bit more atmosphere, but that’s literally the only thing I would change. This is a welcome addition to Shelby county for sure. Can’t beat the happy hour at lunch time either! Novel treat for those of us who are retired😉

My husband and I went when they first opened and didn’t love it, we liked it. It was bright and felt cafeteria style. The salsa was not free and they didn’t have their liquor license yet. It wasn’t made for family style dining, so we were unsure what we thought other than the service and food were both good.

Last night changed our minds! We always give restaurants a second chance especially after the hiccups of opening. We went again last night and everything was improved, the atmosphere was dimmer, they had live music, a kids menu and their liquor license and salsa is now free! We realized that the experience was more high end Mexican & maybe not entirely for large families w/ several children but actually a great place for date night and spending time with friends. I love that! We don’t have that in Chelsea. The food was absolutely amazing. The service I’ll be honest could’ve been a tad better we had a really young girl that kind of forgot us a few times but still worth 5 stars bc everyone has off days and our overall experience was really good. So no biggie. The fajitas are enough for 2 on several of their dishes so we liked that. We’ll be back probably just my husband and I and that doesn’t offend me lol 😂 we need a date night!

First time visit for lunch. Chips, salsa and cheese dip were all very good. Ordered chicken and steak fajitas, only brought chicken fajitas.( There was a definite language barrier between us and our waiter) Overall, was a very good meal and service except about half way through our meal, someone mopped the floor with bleach. The bleach smell was so strong I had to stop eating, ask for to go boxes and the check.

I’ve wanted to try this place for months and finally had the opportunity!! Nice, clean modern interior not cluttered with south west clutter hanging. Cute bar in the back. Food was superb!! Guacamole, chips, and salsa, or fresh and on point. If you never had a tequila, old-fashioned, go ahead and order two. Family loves the food, kids cleaned their plates, and the chicken melted in your mouth. It was so tender and juicy. Well done y’all! Price was reasonable don’t let anyone lie to you. Very average mid-scale pricing on drinks and plates.

Dinner was around $20/plate. Nice upscale-ish little Mexican restaurant. Atmosphere got really loud on the Friday night we visited. Appears to be about 20 tables and a small bar. Lighting was dim and hard for me to read the menu. But the wait staff were polite, clean, helpful, and on top of their game. We did have to request salt/pepper and the chips and salsa don't automatically come to the table, you have to request it. But the salsa IS fresh made and good.

This was our first time visiting Dos Tequilas, and while their menu isn't huge, it did have a good variety of dishes. Meal started w free chips and salsa, and the chips weren't my favorite but the salsa was good. Between the three of us we ordered Steak Mexicano, Steak Burrito and Chicken Enchiladas. My daughter loved the ribeye steak with the rice, altho she didn't try the vegetables. The steak burritos were huge, with two of them on the plate. My wife enjoyed one and took the other one home. I had the chicken enchiladas, which were ok, nothing too exciting. We will go back and try additional menu items. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making sure our drinks were always full. The restaurant wasn't overly busy but still took longer to get our food then I'm used to at Mexican restaurants, but I'm not complaining. Overall it was a good experience, be sure to stop and visit.

Food is a 10/10! Lighting is AWFUL!

I’m glad to go into a restaurant with a ceiling! These new-age designs with open ceilings are so loud and echo but luckily they didn’t do that here. The lighting is truly horrible for 2 reasons, brightness and color temperature of the bulbs. The owner could save with the brightness easily by simply removing 1 bulb per fixture. But changing the bulbs from 6000k daylight to a 3000k warm/bright white would change the tone from horrible bright blue garage/grocery store, to a much more warm and inviting place. At a minimum, please take 1 bulb per fixture out, people want to enjoy their meal not tan under the lights.

This place is the best! We had chicken fajitas, verde chicken enchiladas, and chicken & rice. The chicken is well seasoned and tender. The chips and salsa are fresh and tasty. The quality of food is excellent. I have one favorite Mexican restaurant in the state of Alabama, and I couldn’t find another that is close by that is up to standard with that one. Well, I have now! You can tell they care about the food they are serving! Best restaurant in town!

Our 1st dining experience at Dos Tequilas and the food was superb. They will be our home town Mexican restaurant from now on. The owner & staff were very friendly & courteous.

Absolutely the best Mexican food around! Have been there 2 times already and the food is consistent and delicious, fresh and flavorful. Nice sized portions and I really must say if your in the mood for a cocktail the Piña colada is by far the very best I’ve ever had!

Not your typical authentic Mexican restaurant. Asked the server what kind of shells are used for the toco's and was told flower. Asked for corn shells and still got flower shells on my toco. Food wasn't flavored as most would like. Drink refills aren't free. Prices are a little steep if compared to other Mexican restaurants in the county. It's a new restaurant in the area so they may take their time to get it right.

The best frozen margarita I’ve ever had. Food was authentic and tasted great. Staff (Jorge and Alicia) super friendly. Didn’t want to leave! Give it a try!

I really like tequilas and live right in Chelsea so had to try this place. Actually was getting my oil changed one day saw all the lunch traffic across the street and then saw sign for Dos Tequilas. That speaks for itself. Anyway Valentina and Alisia if i spelled that correctly have become my new best friends. The food is really good salsa very fresh and chunky chicken fajitas were outstanding. A good selection of tequilas for Alabama let alone Chelsea. Sol beer too. A very welcoming atmosphere, great service and very authentic food. I appreciate you all opening here. You are my go to place for local eats now.

Chicken/shrimp Quesadilla had good flavor. Steak Burrito and Steak Fajitas had very little flavor. Paying extra for salsa when you already ordered (cold) Qeuso/chips is ridiculous. I found this to be an overpriced meal that was subpar.

We absolutely LOVED our experience and meal at Dos Tequilas. As local real estate agents, we are always on the go trying new restaurants around Bham. This is one of our new favorites! Fantastic food and good service. I definitely recommend!

Amazing Mexican food! So fresh and homemade tasting! I had chicken enchiladas - simply the best I’ve ever had! The service is excellent. We are so glad to have a dining option of this quality right in our little Chelsea!

This place is a favorite. Better ingredients and experience than a typical Mexican food restaurant. Love the menu. Yes. You have to pay for chips and salsa but I don’t mind at all. Definitely try it.

I came in with my husband a month ago for a dinner date. The gentleman serving us was very nice and professional. I ordered the appetizer platter at first which we thought was delicious. Especially the sauces they came with. The pork and beef tacos I thought were very good. My husband ordered a steak burrito which was made with broccoli and carrots. It was interesting and not our favorite. The dessert we ordered was a napoleon with dulce de leche which I thought was delicious. Overall I had a great experience.

The food was absolutely amazing. Authentic, flavorful, and the customer service was just as good. I highly recommend to come and try it if you haven’t.

Wow! What a wonderful experience and excellent food (and drinks).
We just tried out DoS Tequilas for the first time. The margaritas (on the rocks and frozen) were great. The appetizer was super and meals portions were great. Our waitress, Rebecca was super. We felt very taken care of and thoroughly enjoyed our time.
We’ve been to the other Mexican restaurants in Chelsea, including the new one, and this one is our new ‘go to’ choice!
Give them a try!

Our fault is we had the sampler platter (absolutely delicious! Loved the Cilantro Garlic sauce) - we ended up almost filling ourselves with the nachos and sauces. I had the Ground Beef Chimichanga and my wife had the Steak Burritos. The Chimichanga was nice and hot (temp) with the white queso. My wife's burritos were cooked exemplary - steak was not tough and the red sauce (also with white queso) was an enjoyment that added to the burrito. Our choice for best local restaurant. I'll be having more lunches here now.

Really enjoyed trying Dos Tequilas tonight. I got the steak burrito and my brother got the chicken and shrimp quesadillas. The server was super nice. I tried one of their house margaritas on the rocks. Everything was amazing! The taste was great, the service was great. The atmosphere is nice. Very low key date night ish. I'll be going back with my wife.

The margarita is not like a big chain margarita. It's very delicious but if you like your margs with a ton of sour mix or margarita mix this is not the margarita for you. This margarita is exquisite. It fits the food and the atmosphere!

No complaints here, we will be returning!

So Pricey for So little
No chips and salsa!?!?
Filling (shrimp, chicken, beans) in both of our meals was skimpy to non existent, side of black beans were not hot or warm, tasted like right out of the can…
Waiter was barely civil and seemed annoyed that we were taking his time away from his phone scrolling
Place had 9 diners at 2pm on a Friday.

No need for us to return

Wow is all I can say. This is by far one of the best restaurants I have been to. Starting out the chips were amazing, I’ve never had tortilla chips with that much flavor! The salsa, queso, and guacamole were so flavorful! I got the carnitas taco and the taquitos, and again, the Flavor was perfect! Portions were good! Their tres leches cake is amazing, and it’s hard to find it!! Overall the staff were very friendly and observant of our needs. The prices are reasonable for what you get! Dos tequilas will definitely be our regular restaurant to go to!!

Authentically Fresh Mexican Food. Obviously fresh ingredients. Helpings are larger than normal and the Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo are a must for any shrimp lover!

Food was tasty.

Reason for a 3 star review?
Prices were pretty expensive. Also, they charge you extra for chips and salsa. I could see paying if the taste was great, but the chips tasted like it came out of a bag; not fresh or made in the store.

I will try this place again cause the food (except for chips) tasted good and pretty authentic for Alabama.
I will be prepared for the high cost next time and not pay extra for chips and salsa.

Empanadas appetizer was pretty on the plate and tasted good but salsas were skimpy servings. Ordered Chicken Burrito Bowl and Chicken Fajitas. Just three tortillas-could have used another. Nothing special.Very expensive for what you get.We shared one piece of tres leche cake - good but not $8 good! Total for two - with just water to drink was $60.

This place is by far the best Mexican Restaurant in town! If you want to try something different than most, then this is the place. Excellent service and excellent taste. Great combination! Worth the drive. 100% recommended and you must try the dulce de leche milhojas.

Excellent service, simply special. Very good prices and fast delivery of the food... it is always a pleasure to be and share pleasant moments in the place. Variety and originality in the menu... the seasoning feels like home. I would definitely come back.

The best Mexican food. Everything was delicious. The service is excellent and I was surprised at how quickly the food was served. They are all very friendly. This was one of the most horrible mexican restaurants i've ever been to. I usually never write reviews because I don't want to be rude or mean but this one did it for me. To start off I asked for a water and the glass cups are the size of a kids cup. I drank the water in three sips...i’m not kidding. I ordered the Chicken with rice and when I received my food I was astonished by how small the portions were. Ive never been more disappointed in my life.Ive been to so many restaurants and they usually start off with chips with red salsa to keep you happy while you wait for your food, but no at "dos tequilas" you have to pay $5+ for some chips and salsa. Nevertheless my family and I ate our food in less then 3 minutes and I myself am a slow eater, that should tell you something about the portions. Another thing the FOOD WAS EXPENSIVE, my family paid $70 for 3 plates. And one of those 3 plates was a kids plate. but i’m glad I tried it so I know to never return again.

Do not expect Dos Tequilas to be your typical Mexican restaurant experience. This place takes those typical dishes to another level. The food is superb! To be fair and completely honest the only criticism I have is the lighting is too bright. I feel like the atmosphere should be much darker and possibly even semi "candle lit" for dinner. The foods presentation and flavor is so exceptionally good that the atmosphere should match. However, this restaurant literally just opened its doors so I think all will come in time.

Service was exceptional and the Booth seating was comfortable. Bathroom was kept sparkle clean.

Their liquor license is coming soon, so do not expect beer or liquor right now but they assured us that it's happening very soon.

Aside from the lighting, the food and service easily earns this restaurant 5 stars from me.

Mi novio y yo fuimos ayer a comer por primera vez en Dos Tequilas y que experiencia tan placentera.

La comida estaba deliciosa, pedimos como appetizer un sampler que incluía cheese dip, guacamole, quesadillas y unas empanadas deliciosas acompañadas de una excelente salsa verde.

Nuestra mesera Alicia, fue muy amable y amigable. Todo su personal fue muy cordial y siempre dispuestos a darnos la mejor atención.

La mejor parte fue el postre, un pastel llamado “mil hojas” que sin duda todo el mundo debería probar.

No espero para ver más de Dos Tequilas Chelsea❤️
