It was okay. The staff was not as engaging and friendly as most Mexican restaurants and the margaritas are high. Also, you pay $3 more to mix flavors which is very expensive compared to other Mexican restaurants.

Very disappointing experience.
Stale chips, old salsa, flavorless food, and poor service.
I've had a lot of bad Mexican food in this area but this one set the bar even lower.
No drink refills and was completely ignored the whole time.
The fact that people have left reviews saying this is the best Mexican in Baldwin County is so sad. Please someone open a decent Mexican restaurant with flavor around here.

We and our group of 10 to 25 friends have enjoyed this restaurant, the menu and staff weekly for over a decade, even through covid. Family owned and real Mexican food (not Arizona Mexican). Jose, the owner, is a solid gentleman who is proud to be in Fairhope and has raised his kids here with an impressive work ethic and high values. We love to support businesses and residents like this adding quality to life in our hometown!

Salsa tasted old and slimy, queso was kind of flavorless, the drink(Margarita) wasn't good and I ordered shrimp tacos that came with purple cabbage(ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL), white rice and some spicy sauce. We did not eat the salsa.

I have eaten here around 5-6 times and every time the food is fantastic. The servers are all so friendly and fast. And the restaurant is always clean and friendly feeling.

Tonight, my wife and I were celebrating her promotion at her job and we got her a huge blue margarita and her favorite dish. The food and drinks were fantastic as always. And at the end of our dinner, I asked for the check and found out someone blessed us by paying for our meal! I don’t know who or why, but it made my wife’s whole night. Just another reason why this is my favorite restaurant in Fairhope.

Food is ok, nothing special, but the prices are stupid! Why would you charge $12 for a mushroom quesadilla at lunch time with NOTHING else on the plate?! Salsa was bland so I ordered cheese dip. Please actually put cheese in your cheese dip! No refills on my tea. I had to find the server to check out. Now I remember why I haven’t been there in so long!

The first time eating here, it started out pretty good with warm chips and good salsa. The waiter took my order and that was the last time I saw him. They brought my plate to the table and didn't even ask if I needed anything else. My plate was all one dish, no division between the food, a soupy mess. I had to ask another waiter for my check two separate times. I was over charged for the meal. The ticket was for $20, and my meal (with water) should have been $12-$14 at the most. There is a really good chance that I will NOT return.

I believe I've rated El Mexicano before and rated them 5 stars for their Food, Service and Atmosphere. However yesterday was a complete turnaround from 5 to a 3 in the food category. It should have been a (2.5) rating.
To be fair I should let you know it was near 3:PM when we arrived. And I'm sure the cook's were very tired or there was a shift change taking place while they were preparing our 2 beef burritos lunch special. It was in my humble opinion not cooked/seasoned right. Very bland and undercooked. I'll keep going back because everyone deserves to be off sometime. Love you El Mexicano.

Prices are reasonable, food is ok. The chips are a bit overcooked though. Water tastes like it was filtered with dirt. Waiter kept making errors.

Let me preface this by saying it has been at least 2 years since the last time we were here because our first visit was so bad...but we decided to give it another try today and were just as disappointed in this visit. The first time, there was a sewage smell right when you walked and at least that is gone...but our server came to us while he was eating and food was literally spilling out of his mouth as he spoke to us...I'm fairly certain my mouth was hanging open because I was so repulsed. My husband liked his fish tacos, but my bean and cheese nachos were so bad that I didn't even eat most of them. The cheese was so thin and watery that when I lifted one up, it was dripping onto the plate. I did really like the chips and salsa, though

Swung in there for lunch because we had a coupon through our Renasant bank app. What an awesome place. It was the best meal that we have had in a long time. If you haven’t been there yet, go there now!!

The wait staff are excellent. The food is good but to me a little spicy to Mom a lot spicy but she has a little age on her and really doesn't do spicy. But we did find her something and she really enjoyed it.
P.S. Spicy is not hot just well seasoned.
All in all a good place to eat.

Food is mediocre at best, atmosphere is wonderful if you love rude workers, this is your cup of tea. But my overall experience and the reason for this review is due to the horrible attitude and experience I received with the waitress named Yesi. I will never return to this location again because of just her alone. Attitude is everything when it comes to a wonderful experience and this girl has no positive things to say

Food was delicious, however, I ordered 2 chalupas from ala carte menu at 2.99 according to the menu. When the ticket came it was $10 for them. We asked our waiter about that he said menu price was wrong, Okayyyy.
Our waiter Geronimo had food in his mouth whenever he came to the table, which was not very frequent only when we needed to ask for something. We were very turned off by the service. Sub par to say the least.

Too bad as I can be a really good tipper when I get good service. This guy didn't care about good service and any service seemed to be a bother to him.

I've been going to this restaurant for at least 10 years. This is definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in Baldwin County. I love the steak nachos, they are simply delicious. My family says the other food on the menu is great too! My son loves the shrimp tacos. Sometimes the service is a little slow. But that's pretty much the case anywhere you go post COVID. That won't stop me from going here!

I remember this place being a lot better but the food wasn’t near as good tasting and was also ruined by lady who couldn’t even talk English or understand our order to get it correct. We asked about drink prices and she had no idea then sold us the most expensive kinds then refused to let us take our cheese dip to go because we wanted out of there ASAP. She ruined our special outing that was suppose to be celebrating intimately with my partner and dampened our whole night with the poor service. Then wouldn’t let us take our margarita’s to go when we wanted to leave (Which you can bring as on gas it’s not an opened container drinking out of and quite often done now days after Ovid especially) but what upset me is she wouldn’t take the 2 drinks we hadn’t touched yet because was drinking the others and only ordered before we got our horrible food to where we wanted to leave but she and the guy talked to refused to take it off our bill (Which the drinks over priced giving us smalls but charging us for larger when we asked for medium ) and we had to waste money and leave the drinks after downing the first one trying to rush to
leave. Will NEVER GO BACK! And WARN EVERYONE NOT TO GO THERE!

The food was great and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was nice. The staff was super friendly. Even after the waiter spilled a drink on me, the experience was good. He apologized repeatedly and gave a discount on the meal for the inconvenience. Would visit again!

I’ve only gotten takeout once, but had the intent to eat inside soon. Tried to order food and for the second time was placed on hold for 10 minutes before I hung up and when trying to call back the phone is still off the hook. It’s been 45 minutes and the phone is STILL off the hook.

If you can’t bother to hang up the phone or remember to take my order, why would I come inside? Probably the last time I’ll try to eat here.
