Don Taco is a Mexican Restaurant offering a wide variety of authentic Mexican flavors, tasty margaritas and ice cold beer. Come by today and try us out!
Good food, fresh ingredients, and friendly people. The restaurant is clean, there's a bar and even outside seating available.
My husband and I ordered our food to go, but I really wish we had dined in so I could really check out the salsa bar. So many different salsas to choose from.
I ordered the chicken taquitos and my husband ordered authentic steak tacos. We were both pleased with our meals and said we would be returning soon!

Very nice atmosphere with plenty of seating and clean interior. Staff was very welcoming, responsive, and polite.
Tried the chorizo quesadilla, choriqueso dip, and the birria sopes. All had very fresh ingredients. The tortillas are definitely handmade. Chorizo wasn't as spicy as I would want or expect (none of the smokey heat I'm used to with chorizo dishes). It also made every dish it was in very oily. The queso was pretty good besides that but could definitely be a bit thicker. Sopes was very good. Meat was tender and flavorful. Quesadilla is big enough to last AT LEAST two meals.
Overall, great portions for the money but could use a bit more spice and less oil.

This place is consistently good. We’ve ordered all over the menu. The tacos authentic style are the best! We’ve had birria, carnitas and chicken. We’ve also had the taquitos, the soup, the the ceviche and it was all fabulous. The margaritas are good and quite pretty in presentation.

Don Taco is a must try for the Shoals! Something new and different. I got the Quesadilla de Birria which was 10/10. This is real authentic Mexican food! Their fresh salsa bar has a lot of options too. Please don’t go expecting same old Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food because it just isn’t that. I also had the Paleta de Tamarindo mixed drink and it tastes just like the Mexican candy!

I haven’t had food this good in a long time. The Birria tacos are a MUST!! If you come here and don’t order the Birria tacos, you’re ordering wrong. I don’t like corn tortillas but theirs were fresh, homemade, and so good. It was so fantastic and definitely a new favorite place to eat!!

I don’t know how we haven’t heard about this amazing place until just now! I love Mexican, but I find many of the restaurants around here pile on the fixings but the base of the dish is a miss, or it’s too greasy.
Not here. The service was flawless, the staff so nice, and the vibe comes off modern and a little chainy but I love it. We went on a Sunday evening and it was so quiet, but our waitress did say they are packed usually from Friday to Sunday night. Our service was quick.
I got the barbacoa (birria) and beef tongue authentic style. Changed my world, chef’s kisses* I love birria. And I could shamelessly drink that consomé with a straw. I also got the grilled fish Baja style and it had a nice kick!
That choriqueso has forever replaced any other cheese dip for me.
If you haven’t tried this place, you’re missing out. And if you’re a taco lover and you haven’t eaten here, please tunnel out from under that rock and, don’t walk, RUN!

Great tacos! I thoroughly enjoyed my barbacoa and fried fish tacos. The fresh guacamole was flavorful and disappeared quickly! Likewise the house made salsas were excellent. All of that is still true. Tonight I had mojarra frita, a whole fried fish, and it was just right. Not overcooked. Full of flavor. With pico de gallo, cucumber, tomato, black beans and rice to put on corn tortillas. Excellent!!

Food is always consistent and good but this time the service just was not good. Everyone was almost finished eating and I was asking the server about the kids meal and she blamed it on the kitchen (it seemed that she didn't ring it in). My food was cold trying to distract the child when she should have been eating with everyone.
I was mostly just upset at the server not caring at all about any of it and seeming annoyed that I even asked.

I grew up eating authentic Mexican food, Don Taco is the most authentic I have found (so far) in The Shoals.
Service is always good and feels genuine and relaxed (seems everyone working here is pretty happy).
Prices are good but, with a few beers or Margaitas, can add up (just like anywhere).

Service could've been a little better, had no drink refills, and had to wait around for the check while the server played on her phone, but the food was good.

This had to be the worst "Mexican" food we ever ate. A friend and I went there for lunch. She ordered the pork tacos...the pork was dried out & very hard. I ordered a chicken taco and hamburger taco with hard shell. The chicken had no taste, dried out & barely warm in a flour tortilla 1/2 the size of a taco. The hamburger meat had no taste an dried out, tasted terrible. We will never go back there!!

Waited almost 10 minutes for a margarita. Finally cancelled and just went with beer. If you don't have staff, don't offer drinks. Sitting here with chips I get thirsty. Also, the water tastes like dirt. Please put a filter on the water that you serve.

Published 2 years ago
Very pricey. Taco salad was very small. It did not contain much meat. 2 Taco Salads, 1 tea, 1 glass of water $28.00! Who ever heard of a Mexican Restaurant not serving enchiladas? My first and last time for this place. This place will probably NOT last long.

Absolute best taco I have ever had. It came out in two seconds flat after we ordered and the flavor was seriously indescribable, the steak was tender, and the tortillas were made in-house which was amazing. No other authentic style taco I’ve had in this area compares. We also got cheese dip and a margarita each, which were equally as phenomenal. I’ll definitely be back soon.

I don't understand how this place is a 4.7. I wish my girlfriend and I had the same good experiences as the rest of these people. The salsa and queso were fine, good even. But the food was awful. Her rice didn't even look like rice, it looked more like a glob of tapioca, it was so overcooked and gummy. Both of our dishes were incredibly bland. We had to dump salt and other sauces/condiments on them to even make them edible. I dissected my empanadas and only ate the chicken filling because the empanadas were so doughy and gross. And even then, the chicken was overdone and bland as well. They tasted no better than frozen empanadas from Walmart, and their appearance and texture almost makes me think they were microwaved. The real kicker is I flipped an empanada over and noticed RED DYE from the deli paper they served the dish on had leeched into my food and stained it. This was right after they took our card for payment. The cherry on top was when the manager was informed, he didn't offer to comp or discount the meal, he just asked if I wanted him to make me a couple of fresh ones (only two, because I had already choked down the other two, and I guess he only wanted to atone for the two I didn't suffer through). I was ready to leave, so I just said sure. He brings a box of two plain empanadas. None of the toppings on them that came on them in the meal. Still as doughy as ever, and soaked with grease. I tried feeding them to my outdoor cats, and not even they wanted them. I will never be back. Pictures attached of leeched red dye and plain, gross empanadas he had remade for us. The red dye in the picture may be a little difficult to see, but I promise it's there.
Edit: later I went outside and saw a raccoon eating some of the cats' food; it also wouldn't eat the empanada. It was eating around it. Not even a scavenger like a raccoon wanted it.

My friends and I did not have the same experience all these other people had. We were a group of 8. All eight left saying this was the first and last time. The food was very bland. One friend who is lactose intolerant was given flour tortillas even those she specifically ordered corn tortillas. We were told there was no diet soda available because somebody had forget to order diet soda for the drink machine. We just had a bad experience all the way around and then charged a lot. My bill by itself was $25 dollars and I had no alcohol drinks only tea and the shrimp ceviche.

The new taco place “Don Taco” in Florence, Al. is a must try! They create authentic street Mexican food! This is a great casual sit down spot for a quick bite for lunch break or even a quick dinner!
I would recommend reaching out to the community more! Maybe have a first responder day where they can get discounts or maybe host an event for them soon to gain more exposure to your new restaurant.

Great authentic food! First time trying it as it’s their grand opening and all around impressed. Very friendly staff and it’s honestly a breathe of fresh air for Florence. Karen’s I’m sure will pick it apart but as someone who has reviewed food for years in our area. Take my comment for your word. It is GOOD.

Excellent customer service. Drinks were great but was charged extra 1.50 for margarita assuming because it was flavored which I feel should be informed. Food was not hot to say it was a long wait time. Also feel as a grand opening and taco Tuesday there should have been some kind of promotion.
