Taco Mama - Florence

3rd time here, 1st two times the service was not great, but today we got Johnny. He was outstanding, he was running around making sure everyone was taken care of while others were talking about the election. We always love the food, it's always worth the heartburn for me 🤣.

Big kudos to Johnny, my kids were being grumpy and he had them laughing all while keeping up everything else.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Florence.
I love the atmosphere, and I love the outdoor seating available.
You order at the counter and they'll bring your order to the table you choose.
They have delicious beverages. My favorite is the LA Playa.
I've tried lots of stuff off the menu and I've never been disappointed..
They are consistent and the food is fresh and delicious every time!
My go to is either a steak quesidilla or a Burrito Bowl, but I also love the fried flounder tacos and grilled shrimp tacos.
You can adjust whatever dish you choose to your liking. There are several delicious add ons.
Try it you won't regret it!

I am in town visiting in Florence AL & I wanted a really good quesadilla. My co workers who live here said Taco Mama was a really great place to have some Mexican so I decided to stop by. I was impressed with the margarita flavors they offered and they also had a unique margarita called the Prosecco fizz that was really refreshing. I had a shrimp quesadillas & I also had a blood orange margarita. It was refreshing not too sweet or tart but just the right amount of flavor. The shrimp quesadillas was absolutely huge. It had the perfect amount of shrimp/cheese ratio. My friend had barbacoa tacos and she said the meat was tender and flavorful. I also loved the fact that they had different varieties of Hot sauces including my favorite Cholula. Definitely would go back and have a few margarita on my off day. 10/10

My mom and I love this place. Their nachos are always a hit, especially when we do not have any dinner ideas, and it's my girlfriend's favorite to eat! We loved our waiter, Johnny. He was a very down to earth and entertaining person to talk to! We recommend this restaurant and especially seeking out Johnny's services.

I love this place in Florence, they have a great outdoor seating area and a good vibe to the whole place. Served LOTS if chips, more than we needed. Quality/taste of food is a 3. It gets the job done. This is not a mexican restaurant. It's an American joint that sells meat and tomato's in a soft shell. Extreamly expensive. Lunch for 2, $65 before tip. Great looking atmosphere for a evening with music. Nice staff. Super clean. Expensive.

We had some great burritos - the Judge and the Fat Boy (?). Great margaritas too - one was pomegranate and the other jalapeno. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the fall breeze and our pup (on a leash) was allowed to join us.

Every time I’m in Florence I stop at Taco Mama! I just moved back into town and I had an amazing experience. The food was delicious. I built my own burrito bowl with steak. Prices are a little steep but you get what you pay for. Quality!!! I had amazing service. Johnny served my meal and made my day 10xs better than how it started.

We ate at Taco Mamas this evening. This was the first time we had been to Taco Mama’s, but it definitely won’t be the last. There were three of us, and we each ordered something different so we could taste each other’s. Between the three of us, we tried ahi tuna tacos, the Sizzler (steak) tacos, and pulled pork tacos. Everything—everything was incredible! The chips and salsa are great; the guacamole is terrific and fresh; the cilantro rice is tasty, but the Mexican corn—this side is my new go-to item! Delicious, the flavors explode in each bite! Whatever you do, make sure you try the Mexican corn! Have I mentioned how good the Mexican corn is?! The service is stellar, and the atmosphere is excellent! Yep, we’ll be back!

There have been multiple cases where for even the smallest situations of their mistake, they have well over compensated for it and gave cards and replaced food. They have always given good food, and is really the only Mexican place that I've been to that has consistently been honest and maintained a great customer service.
Other places I've been to have been fine, bit they have clearly made it more important to themselves.
Also they do good portions for the price; although the price can be a little high at times.
If you just get your meal, with a entree, chips and side: it can be okay at 15$ - 18$ for just one person . But getting a drink + tip can definitely get it up to 20$.
And if you do something extra it easily get to 30$. I have before. But in those cases I have tiped, got a glass bottle drink, and got a extra side.
Basically just get what you need if you want to be easy on price. but ay if you want some of the best food in north AL that I've had: then drop in here. I think they have a place in Huntsville.
(sorry yall the food trucks in south AL are still better).

I love everything about Taco Mama! The food is always freshly made for you and delicious! They are always helpful! When I bring my newborn, they set up a highchair to put her car seat on. They're always playing great music, and there is outside seating availability! You can't go wrong with Taco Mama! Always a great dining experience!

Was excited to try another part of this chain; this is the fourth Taco Mama I have been to and my least favorite. My s9ne got the make-your-own quesadilla, and at the other Taco Mama's, all the additions have come in separate containers. Not here; the lettuce was cooked in the quesadulla, which made it soft and rubbery, the jalapeños tasted old, and the liquid queso was also put on the quesadilla. The shrimp on the Justice is Served wasn't seasoned well and seemed to be lacking. Keep in mind, this is compared to the other Taco Mama's that I have been to. As this was a late lunch, that may account for the lack of other customers and the quality of the food. Not sure if we will return to this location.

This is my first time to write a negative review for any restaurant but after our visit to Taco Mama tonight I felt the need too. My 90 year old father and 89 year old mother (on a Walker ) went to sit at a table while I stood in line to order for them. The guy working tables told them they could not sit there that they had to order first and made them get up. After helping them back to my car I went back in and ordered. The guy that took my order asked if it was to go or dine in. I said to go since there were no tables available even though I could see 3 empty tables. He said that there were plenty of tables. I explained what happened and he apologized. That really didn’t make up for the treatment that my elderly parents had experienced. It’s sad that no respect was shown by this employee.

I ordered online. My order was ready for pickup within 15 minutes. The staff was friendly and attentive when I arrived. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. They even carried my order out to my vehicle. Food was delicious. No complaints whatsoever. I highly recommend Taco Mama.

Edit: 3 years later. Got the barbacoa tacos. Must have done something wrong because there was a tablespoon of meat in each of them, the bottom was mushy and when I picked it up it fell apart. No joke. The wife got her soft tacos and they were loaded with meat. The flavor was mediocre. Couldn’t see or taste any chorizo in the beans, but the redeeming factor was the good tomatillo salsa. Won’t be coming back here. Must have had a great time 3 years ago because it was a 5 star review then.

Let me just start by saying that this isn't Mexican food, so don't expect it. Now that we've got that out of the way, what you can expect is some really high quality house made ingredients, tasty meats, and a choice of toppings that will make your head spin. The flounder and barbacoa are what I had, and they were really good! The fact that you get a side (and it can be queso dip) is really awesome. I can't wait to try some of the other items. The margaritas (watermelon) were on point. Kristina knows how to do it right! The line died fast and the service was prompt. As far as Mexican food/tacos go, this isn’t it. If you’re someone whose never had authentic Mexican food and you want the Caucasian spin on tacos, you might enjoy this food. The salsa is bad. Their street corn is bad. The taco combination are far from traditional and the flavors don’t work well together. As is, I had a burrito put into a bowl and they couldn’t even get the order right, and I asked for light cheese and got way too much. They didn’t even get the barbacoa flavor correct. I’ve been there twice, once with a friend and after that when I was getting car car serviced across the street. It was not good both times. Overall, it’s weak and lacks flavor. I think they should go back to the basics and learn about tacos and flavor profiles, maybe hire an actual Mexican chef to create the menu.

I was really disappointed. The food tasted really bland. I had a veggie bowl and it had no taste to it. They gave me so little rice that I thought I didn't have any, but after searching, I found a little. I had to put salt on it to make it taste better. My husband didn't have all the toppings on his as I did so the salt didn't help his veggie bowl. He couldn't eat it, neither could I.

The quesadillas are the best here. Everything else is average tex mex.

When you want tacos, it is pretty hard to beat Taco Mama. I think they have the best Mexican food in the Shoals.

I visit various restaurants in the area to video the use of my various hot sauces. Yesterday, I was at Taco Mama doing just that. The manager there was very accommodating and had no issue with me doing that. I ordered a chorizo enchilada, and it was just amazing! I go there often, and EVERYTHING is great every time. I was excited to test my 'Scorpions and Ghosts' sauce on that dish. It was good and it was got!

After completing my video, I was joined by Cheyenne, one of the members or the great staff there. She is a real pepperhead and jumped right in to test this very hot sauce. It was such a pleasure to sit and watch that young lady enjoy that sauce. She is a real beast when it comes to hot sauce! She didn't bat an eye at eating sauce that has a heat index approaching 1 million SHU. It was so much fun talking and making video with her. She is typical of the great staff at Taco Mama.

Mixed greens salad was just a big pile of iceberg lettuce. Additional toppings were sparse. Was still hungry so ordered chips and salsa. Chips were not even close to crisp. Like eating soggy cardboard. Drinks that cost $8 everywhere else were $12 each. Cool looking spot with hip vibe that fell way short on the food quality.

Absolutely amazing!! I have serious food allergies and they Absolutely stood out above the rest and made it an absolute delight, and even went the extra mile to make sure I knew what I could have and gave me a menu with my safe foods highlighted. Thank you so much. It means the world to me to be able to eat out and not worry about dying.

The best margarita in Florence is right here! The jalapeño margarita is a perfect mix of spicy and sweet. Never a bad meal at Taco Mama - you can't go wrong ordering anything!
