The service was the best. I did not enjoy my food nor my drink. The drink was absolute trash. Maybe should have stuck with the traditional margaritas. My quasedella has some salty cheese that had no quality. It was my birthday. Happy Birthday to me.

I had to ask... how long are you guys open??? Because we found them by chance and there were no reviews. Glad we took the chance, because this is the place for Mexican food in Gardendale!!! Absolutely fantastic. Great atmosphere, clean dining area, and friendly service. The fajitas came with a rib that put it over the top. I was a little put off by the "steak"... but it was good and should probably be listed as skirt steak... no biggie, since the flavor was spot on. I would have like to find a couple of local beers on tap, since Birmingham has some great craft beer brewery...but this is a Tex-Mex joint so... you can't have it all. This is the place... don't pass it up!

Our waiter was Gabriel. We had probably 25 people there that he was waiting on. He didn’t mess anything up. It amazed me to watch him carry 6 large plates on one arm.
He is the best of the best.

Fairly good Mexican food. I went with a group of five and they got my plate wrong. Everybody else got their plates right. I felt like my food was cold for my taste. Flavor was good and service was average. Dessert was great.

Stopped in during our travels and was decently impressed. Friendly staff! The chips and salsa were very good, food came out very quickly and was pretty good. My only complaint would be the Margaritas which were lacking flavor and pretty weak. Overall, we were satisfied and would return, but not for Margaritas. 😉

I'm regularly impressed with the high level of service here, aside from the excellent food. Wait staff routinely check with us while we dine to see if we are satisfied with our orders and if we need anything else. Baja California has become our go-to place for Mexican cuisine in the Gardendale/Fultondale area.

Chips are very thin and crispy!! Cheese dip and bean dip are both excellent. Taccos, enchiladas with refried beans and rice arrived quickly and hot.

Went there a couple of times and the service is very slow and the food had no flavor, the ground beef had absolutely no flavor as if they just fried it with NO season, the chips were so old tasting never going back

My wife and I love eating here and it's a good place to bring friends and family. I think they have the best chips and queso in town. They had a frozen mojito at one time and I wish they'd bring it back.

Always very quick and friendly. Foods always very good. Nice and festive atmosphere. Only wish they were a bit more generous with alcohol percentages in sweet drinks. They are sometimes more corn syrupy fruit drinks that are hard to finish if you have issues with sudden blood sugar spikes.. I'd recommend a shot of tequila over the margaritas. Better effect and less sugary mix.

My dad and I tried to eat here yesterday and was served ice cold chicken soup and cold dry chicken tacos, when we sent the food back they reheated it in a microwave instead of making us fresh food and it dried it out even more so we just didn't eat, the upside is the owner apologized and didn't charge us anything, we'll give them another shot eventually and if better I'll change my rating.

Awesome experience. Gabriel helped us and was a wonderful server. Had the margaritas, which were very tasty. I ate the fried burrito, though I will most likely get something else next time, it was still good. Will definitely be coming back!

I got Baha's Fishing Trip and it was amazing, but the menu has GOT to be updated! the current Google Menu photos have it listed as 13.25 and while I definitely expected a price increase, I did not expect an 8 dollar jump. 22 is a lot right now. I was nauseous when she told me the total.

Undoubtedly the WORST food I’ve ever had. It is the only time I’ve ever sent food back in a restaurant. The service was almost as bad with a surly wait staff that was completely inattentive and just did not care. First and last time I will ever go. I do t understand how they have ANY repeat business.

Food and atmosphere is magnificent. I used to love this place ,but one day here everything changed, the service started going downhill. For example, they charged us for dinner fajitas when we got lunch fajitas all of the time and the staff isn't as nice. It used to be good but I stopped going here

Terrible customer service. To go order was wrong and when I called, the server would never admit that he messed up.. instead tried to gaslight me by saying I didn't order what I ordered and continued to speak over me.

Totally Awful!!! Got charged for a meal I did not order plus they tacked on $9 for the meal I was suppose to have gotten. Management would not correct bill. I will not recommend Gardendale location to (NO ONE)---People, please pay attention to your bill to make sure they don't over charge you. Charged $20 more for the same meal I would have paid less for at the Irondale location.

I personally recommend the (Irondale) location in Birmingham. The people are much friendlier there. Good luck if you attend the one in Gardendale. I will never go there again.

Taco Fajita Salad w/chicken was wonderful, and the serving was plentiful. Prompt and friendly wait staff. It looks small from the storefront, but it is very large inside and nicely decorated. We were just passing thru town.

Baja California is a Gardendale staple. The food is good, the service is good, the beer & margs are served cold! What else can you ask for?

My family and I have been here quite a few times over the last couple of years and always have a good experience. It's generally a pretty crowded place, particularly around dinner time but somehow we've never had to wait (as a party of 3). However I've seen people have to wait quite often.

This is one of those establishments where the host/hostess stand is in the same area as checkout, where payments take place after meals are complete. And all of this is directly in front of the one and only customer entrance/front door. Congestion isn't uncommon at all, but it's never been a deterrent for us, but heads up!

Again, the food is good. No frills, nothing fancy or over the top but everything they do, in my experience is done well! Classic Mexican cuisine. The dining room is very large with plenty of seating and there's even a small bar area with seating as well. Give it a shot... maybe you'll enjoy it as well!

No worries, it's a standard strip mall Mexican place. I had a guacamole and chilaquiles. BOTH were excellent. Sauce for Chilaquiles had a bite, and something different, maybe a bit of chocolate mole the staff were eating? Liquid smoke and Dr. Pepper syrup?
Dunno. It was quite good and a generous portion.
I'd reprise that happily.

Food was fresh and hot. I like the flavorful salsa and guacamole. The only thing I didnt care for was that the shredded chicken on my naches was dark meat. But service was fast and friendly. A little pricey for lunch, it was $52 for 3 meals.

Can't say it exceeds any expectations, but, it is good food. The only downside is if you have a large party they seem to have issues with giving everyone the correct orders and drinks can come out slow. Just swap some plates and everything is great! Would recommend eating here if it's what you are looking for.

We were promptly greeted and seated. Our order came out quickly and the employees were very friendly. The food had very good flavors and looked delicious. The amount of our bill was very reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant.

The good:
- the service was super fast. I mean I don't think we could've gotten fast food as quickly as we got our food here.
- the food was prepared well
- they gave each of us our own bowl of salsa for the chips, which were exceptionally thin, in a good way.

The bad:
- it appears that they don't use any real cheese. We both got meals that advertised cheese, but it was just cheese sauce, which is absolutely not the same, and kinda ruined the meal.

Came for dinner on a Friday evening around 7 PM and were seated right away. We ordered drinks (the Friday special was the grande margarita for nine bucks and it was GOOD). I really liked how they brought each of us a small bowl of salsa so that we did not have to worry about double dipping. The food was good, the service was attentive and the atmosphere was lively. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you. It's a great place.

I've gone twice and ordered pick up once. My order was never right. They cannot speak English nor can they understand english...literally..the food is very expensive especially when you don't enjoy it...I never once succeeded in getting a salad and grilled shrimp. Thats all..a salad and grilled shrimp period! Evidently, if it's not on the menu like that, they cannot make it...3rd times the charm...I will not go back..nor will I recommend it to anyone....
