This is not the stereotypical Mexican restaurant with the usual numbered combo plates. This is more of a culinary adventure with tastes and flavors of Mexico. We had a Mahi dish that was cooked perfectly and presented just so . We did have chips, salsa and cheese dip the were excellent although we didn't love the thick chips. We went late on Thursday with most of the guests seated outside on a deck with the lake a few feet away. I really like this restaurant!

Magnificent outdoor seating by the Tennessee River!!! My carne asada tacos with spicy sauce were great. Wife loved her ground beef empanadas and flourless chocolate cake. My refried beans and rice had no seasonings that I could taste. Enjoyed the chips and queso with Poblano peppers. There were whole beans visible in the refried beans. A great evening overall.

If you’re looking for just another Alabama “Mexican restaurant”, this isn’t it..
La Esquina Cocina Guntersville is the second location of this local family ran restaurant established in 2020. This Guntersville location offers stunning views both inside and out. The back covered patio is right off the water and allows for a breezy lakeside lunch or dinner out of the sun, while still allowing you to be at one with natural. The inside is equally as gorgeous as your patio view of the water with an open floor plan that is bright and welcoming with a modern esthetic brimming with style. This location also has the only hwy facing walk up bar on the street. It’s perfect for a refreshing walk up sip, or a delicious small plate take away while shopping, sight seeing, or just to cure hanger while waiting to be sat (both at this restaurant or the surrounding restaurants nearby).
These drinks are legit, fam. Slightly less expensive than the surrounding bars(according to other patrons, I have not verified this), but packed with flavor made with quality/delicious ingredients. Bottled beers average $4-$6 and draft beers run $4-$7. The margs tho..
Hannah, a wonderful amazing young talented bartender, hand makes these drinks from fresh ingredients with a friendly smile and lots of good energy. In my personal opinion they have to be one of the best margarita this side of Nashville. (Obviously, I’ve not tried all margaritas so please don’t take that as an insult to other restaurants)
The meal:
I had the Chorizo and Artichoke dip, and the pick three taco plate. Together totaling a fair $27
The Dip ($8) :
Here is where we find the only slightly negative comment about my whole experience: I found the dip to be slightly bland for my taste. Chorizo being a highly flavorful Mexican sausage mixed with artichokes hearts in a queso style dip should be a dynamite explosion of flavor.. I felt the dip needed some sort of seasoning to blend the two together. It was slightly less flavorful than I thought it would be..That being said, the dip was still good. The chips were very fresh, made in house, and delicious.
** Sidenote/disclaimer** I’m not a chef, nor am I certified to make any kind of formal statement or leave a professional review of any kind. This is just my raw unbiased opinion. It could just have been me; I admit this wholeheartedly. My expectation for a dish containing something as flavorful and delicious as chorizo should be a punch of flavor from the start in my opinion.**
The Tacos ($18 + $1 for the shrimp upgrade) and is served with Mexican style rice and Peruvian refried beans.
I had the - CAMARÓN(grilled), PESCADO(beer battered), and the CARNITAS(as they come).
The tacos were very delicious!! Fresh handmade in house: salsa, salsa Picosa, chipotle sauce, and pico help bring these tacos to the next level.
Overall, I have nothing negative to say about this place other than how empty it was for how good it is .. granted, I was there slightly after lunch hour on Monday but with this being a block away from the courthouse, the police station, DMV, the fire department, etc. this place should be packed with local patrons who enjoy delicious Americanized Mexican food.
I hope this helps you and your family decide to try this local hidden gym. This isn’t sponsored or governed in any way; simply a raw review of my first time trying this amazing restaurant.

Took my wife here on a date. We decided to go on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated out side on the patio. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and our server was very friendly and made sure everything was taken care of. The food was delicious and fresh. The chips and queso are delicious. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting great food and amazing service. We will definitely be back.

Had dinner at La Esquina Cocina at City Harbor and had a great experience. We were immediately seated on the deck and offered cocktails. Their signature Margarita was delicious. My husband ordered the Chorizo Artichoke Dip that did not sound appealing to me, but it was really good! I ordered the 3-taco plate and tried the Carnitas, Carne Asada and Rajas tacos, served with rice and beans. All were delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was very attentive and cordial and she didn't rush us out after our meal when we decided to have another margarita and enjoy the evening outside on the deck. Inside, the decor is modern and beautiful. The deck was comfortable and it was nice to see a built-in server station/bar instead of a make-shift area that always detracts from the atmosphere. Was a lovely experience overall. Highly recommended.

We came here for the 5th time and this time the food was like a fast food from a chain. The waitress was slow with her service and didn't ask why our plates are still full. She was unfriendly when she brought the check and didn't say a word. I love this restaurant but this time it was horrible and I'll never come back.

Yesterday 10/1/22 I ordered take out. So for $22 I got three tacos and two containers of rice and beans. The size of the containers for the rice and beans were condiment cups. I ate the equivalent of three teaspoons spoons of rice and teaspoons of beans. Who does that for a $22 meal? I informed the staff that the rice and beans was ridiculous. She agreed and smiled and said she would relay to management. Bottom line we all work hard for our money. This place gets 1 star for prices and small portions.
Update: No way a condiment cup is 4 fluid oz. not sure if you’re aware but 4 ounces would equal 24 teaspoons. Your condiment cups are no more than 2-3 tablespoons.

My husband & I went there for the first time and it started out great. We just went for drinks because it was around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The restaurant is lovely and the view is beautiful. We received our first round of drinks very quickly and we enjoyed it. Then things went south from there....my husband ordered a beer that he never got, but was billed for. After waiting for a long time, like, I said we were there at 3 in the afternoon so it wasn't busy, never seeing our waitress, we paid out or tab to a gentleman behind the bar closest to our table. We had to get the beer that was on the tab, but never received, removed. We left only to be chased down outside by who I am assuming was the manager. We were asked if we paid our bill.....I have never in my life, been treated in such a way. Then the manager has the nerve to say that we didn't have to be so rude to him??!! We were accused of stealing, but yet, the restaurant tried to bill us for something we never even received! So do yourself a favor and don't go there!!

The best part of this restaurant is the setting. The city harbor area in Guntersville is beautiful, and you can choose to sit inside the restaurant or outside where there's lovely scenery.
The food is not bad, but not great. I feel that there are much better options in Guntersville for delicious Mexican style food. I ordered a three taco plate, and it was very bland and didn't have much spice. If you don't like spicy or flavorful food, then this might be the restaurant for you. Additionally, it was very overpriced, considering the food was just OK.
I don't mind waiting for my order, but it took such a long time for the food to get there. Maybe we were there on a bad night, but no one in our group of 5 people will be back.

First, the good stuff. Great lakeside view, friendly service and delicious cheese and pepper dip, $8. Everything we were served was of the highest quality. This place is squeaky clean and from what we could see into the kitchen, it was spic and span.
Now for the average stuff. The restaurant is squeaky clean to the point of being sterile. No ambiance or coziness in this joint. You could change the menu to any ethnicity and not have to change any of the hard product. The quesadillas are good, but the chicken enchiladas have a green tomatillo sauce that is quite vinegary. It could be toned down a little, or just avoid it unless you like the pungent flavor. And before you say anything, yes, we have enjoyed tomatillo sauce in the American southwest and throughout Mexico, Central America and South America. So we know tomatillo varieties. Prices are about as high as we have ever seen in any of our travels for Tex-Mex food. So overall, meh.

The food is very disappointing, especially for the price. The menu has a lot of variety and sounds delicious, but the servings are small and the tacos don’t come as described. One was missing grilled pineapple and instead of pineapple salsa as described, just had a reg salsa. Other was missing Serrano mayo, corn salsa, etc.. the server was nice but seemed confused when I tried to explain that the tacos are missing the parts that are the main reason we ordered. The chicken was so bland it could pass for canned cat food. Inedible. Def not worth the price, but 2 stars for the incredible view and clean, beautifully decorated interior

The restaurant itself is very nice. The food is ok, but way overpriced for what you get. My husband and I each got a plate of food, we had to go through a drive through on the way home because the portions were so small. The sides come in condiment cups, literally two bites. The chips and salsa aren't free and aren't good enough that I would ever pay for them again. I would recommend any of our local Mexican restaurants before this one. Fancy restaurant doesn't equal good food.

Elevated Latin cuisine. Best restaurant at The Harbor! Everything on the menu is fantastic, but I recommend the chicken empanada as an appetizer, the Archer y Tierra (amazing steak and creamy corn on side) as your entree, and the caramel salted cheesecake for dessert. Excellent service and great food. Whoever controls their menu definitely knows what they're doing both in the pairings and the food itself, and the cocktails are absolutely awesome. We have encountered similar restaurants throughout our travels in the Yucatan and this place is certainly capable of holding its own with resort-level places. A wonderful hidden gem here in North Alabama, and certainly worth a visit. We most certainly will return!

Two stars only because of the view. First the food was awful, extremely bland and needed salt desperately. It is quite overpriced for the portions offered. Service was average and slow seems to be the pace. Sitting outside was nice. My biggest issue is not only was the food very bad, I am certain I got food poisoning from here as I have been terribly sick since eating there and have been unable to eat or drink without getting sick since I ate there on Sunday for lunch. I will not go again.

Three stars for atmosphere simply because the interior is a concrete floored industrial space. The lakeside deck is fabulous.
A very nice menu well executed. Interesting drinks, simply not the same old cheesy/greasy Tex Mex we get in Bama. We ate a large section of the menu, and everything was good to better. Attentive staff. Really the biggest downside was noise from the folks outside at the place next door.
No fixing that anytime soon.

My daughter and I decided to try La Esquina Cocina for the first time and we were not disappointed. We sat on the patio and had a wonderful view. We both had the Taco plate, 3 tacos, which were delicious. The margaritas were very good as well. Our waiter, Spencer, took good care of us and did an outstanding job. We will definitely return! Now for the only negative part of the experience. TRYING TO FIND A PARKING SPACE!! Not sure what can be done. We ended up parking across the street from City Harbor, which has a huge main parking lot already. It's a bit of a walk from where we ended up. Maybe have a free shuttle for folks who have to park what seems like 1-2 blocks away? We had a great evening regardless.

Bad review because of shady business practices. The restaurant does not tell you that they automatically add a 20% gratuity for a "large party" (6 people is considered a large party?). In good faith, I tipped 20% of the final bill, without examining every line item in the presence of my guests (which would be very tacky). When I got home I saw that they had snuck that extra 20% on to my bill. The menu makes no mention of this surcharge, and the waitress did not tell me that they had already added a gratuity when she handed me the bill. Very poor business practice.

The taco trio is the oddest plating ever. Prepare to make a mess on the table.
Flavors are off just enough that I'm not sure what to think.
We'll go back and try it a second time because the view is gorgeous 😍
And don't believe the reservation link... we got there and the link said there was nothing available, but there were only 2 other parties.

This is one of my favorite restaurants and I’ve been to both locations in Guntersville and downtown Huntsville several times. I like both locations for their obvious reasons. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant- think Modern Mexican Fusion. The flavors are amazing and they use fresh, high quality ingredients - you get what you pay for. I’ve been for lunch and dinner and they never disappoint. Service is always wonderful and friendly, and everything I have tried on the menu has been outstanding. You can definitely tell they work hard on their menu and they take pride in what they serve. It’s a great place to bring family and friends and just sit back and enjoy the food and atmosphere. It’s great to share plates and experience all the different items on the menu - you will not be disappointed! The kids menu is great too - my daughter loves their food and that says a lot because she is a very picky eater!

My husband and I came here on a Friday night in June. We had dinner on the patio and had a great experience all around. The atmosphere is awesome- we had a warm night with a breeze and watched the birds, fish, and boats as we ate. Our server Bryson was very friendly and provided great service. We ordered the queso dip with roasted poblano peppers which was very good and our food came out right around the time we finished our appetizer (great timing!). We both got the tacos and loved everything we tried (shrimp, pork, tilapia), including the rice and beans that come with the tacos. This is a restaurant we will definitely come back to!

A few things to note here. This is a high end Mexican restaurant, so you will not get complimentary chips and salsa with your meal. Also, the menu is not the traditional American / Mexican (more on the gourmet side of the spectrum). Family run, so service and food are generally consistent. Also not the best place if you are on low carb / keto (not many grilled meat type of options). But for a different / unique experience, you can't beat the food and location. Just be prepared to spend a little more for a high end experience at City Harbor.

We had a party of five that wanted to be seated outside. Hostess said be about 30 minutes because a large table wasn't currently available. While sitting in the waiting area a party of six was seated at a table for four outside prior to us, that came in after us. Hostess looked me dead in the eye when this happened. Service poor. If you do want good food for a reasonable price and great service, walk across the way to The Brewers Cooporative. I have no problem spending my money at an establishment that wants it.

We had an excellent dinner here. We ordered the COCHINITA PIBIL tacos and the Pollo Bowl. Both were fantastic and good portions. The marinated pulled pork on the tacos paired with pickled onions made for a great combination. The pollo bowl had several different ingredients that were perfectly blended . I believe we added some kind of salsa that added additional “kick”. Our server did an excellent job, and a plus for me when dining is the manager(or owner) stopped at our table to check on things. That goes a long way ! We highly recommend and we will be back soon!

Went there last Saturday night on a date, was told it would be a 40 minute wait, we were still waiting after an hour!!! Was told by a server that they couldn’t make people leave even though they had several empty tables that just needed to be cleaned off!! Talk to the manager and when he went to check we got a page telling us our reservation was cancelled, manager came back and seated us and told us that it was because of the Cook😳, what does the cook have to do with us getting a table?? We ordered 2 drink’s from the bar and took them to our table and got chips and salsa, which cost $5🤬. We will never go back there again, paid $30 for 2 drinks which were mostly ice and chips and salsa!! Service was terrible!!

I'm a disabled Veteran with a very well trained Service Dog that was treated horribly by the Manager (by direction of the owner) of this restaurant. They did not want to let me eat at their establishment and have my dog walk on the restaurant floor because it would get soiled by my Service Dog. After I explained they were in violation the the Americans Disability Act they offered for me to walk around the back and through some shrubs (literally through their landscaping and not a path) with my dog I could eat on the outdoor patio. It is a shame that such a nice restaurant would treat any customer this way due to their ignorance that I and my Service Dog would be treat this way. I hope that this review with move the owner to get themselves educated on the ADA Guidelines of Service Dogs.
Beginning on March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA.
A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
Generally, title II and title III entities must permit service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas where members of the public are allowed to go.

This spot is at the city of harbor next door Awake restaurant. Cold rice & beans small portions for the three tocoas for $18 $20 after taxes. I wouldn't recommend this meal nor this place while they have this manager. We ended up getting it to go since they charged us When We didn't want it. We were lied to about the portion size of the three tacos.
They said they were big enough for two people to eat. They were small like a kids meal. I wish I would have taken pictures. They don't look big as the ones in the pictures online. I've never seen tacos so small.
The fish looked raw. They told us we had to pay even tho we hadn't touched it. They didn't offer us something else or a discount etc. He talked loud like he was yelling for everyone to hear like we were eating for free & running but we didn't touch any of that food. They customer service could have been better to satisfy your customer but it seemed to be all about them .
He asked what were they going to do with that food that we didn't eat. What will we do with it I was thinking . What a waste of money. I noticed another review with a similar complaint about this same order.
Of course the habor view is nice by the water but it was too windy to dine outside. The inside looked nice but I rather have good food and a good portion. As well as honesty. We are very disappointed.we would not recommend this place nor the three tacos with this manger.

Classy service with an upscale atmosphere had me for almost 2 hours, and looking out at lake Guntersville was a plus also 💋💋💋💋💋 Last but not least, You won’t want to miss dessert❣️

They need some noise baffles in this place. All hard surfaces and with all the diners talking it was very noisy. Hard to converse.

Had the pork chop and pasta, both were super good!

Food was underwhelming, salsa was fairly bland. The service from Kirsten was good. I'd go back for the atmosphere, but that's it.

When I go to a Mexican restaurant, I enjoy being greeted by a server who brings me chips and salsa. Not at this place. Not without paying for it. We started with the chorizo artichoke dip. I think they forgot to put chorizo in it. it was so bland, and the salsa that I ordered that I had to pay for was so bland that we decided not to have dinner here. The server was excellent! The food here (based on what we ordered) is by no means authentic . I won’t go back.

Went at noon. Not very busy at all. Fairly limited menu. It has a fancier, lighter fare than your typical Mexican restaurant. Server was friendly. Order taken quickly. Food presented nicely and was well prepared. It was good, quality, and fresh food. It wasn't quite my cup of tea, but that's just based on personal taste. Heavy on cilantro and onions. However, their queso dip is the best that I be have ever had. Fresh chips that were kind of a mix between tortilla chips and pita chips. They were great. Very clean. Very presentable wait staff.

Love this place! Atmosphere is perfect. Beautiful decor peacefully set on the banks of Lake Guntersville. We ate supper my husband had steak and vegetables he said steak was the best he had ever had. I had shrimp scallop n arugula salad so yummy. Took home a tres leches cake had a rum sauce with fresh berries. The flavor was amazing! Great experience with everything, we're definitely going back!!

I’ve eaten here many times and I have to say I’ve never had a bad meal or experience with this family owned restaurant. The food is always awesome and the people I’ve met that work there have made me a regular.

This restaurant had a cheap paper menu and food choices were very small. The cost was high for a small amount

The tacos were delicious and had a lot of meat in them and the margaritas we super tasty as well. Our waitress did a great job as well. I would have given more stars except that this is the first time I have ever been charged for chips and salsa. Our waitress asked if we would like chips and salsa before we ever even saw the menu and it wasn't until our bill came that I noticed we were charged for that. We were there at 4pm on Wednesday and our margaritas were supposed to be happy hour priced and they weren't. I didn't complain to a manager as it was only $4 that would've been taken off. This review is more of a warning that they charge for chips and salsa and don't give you happy hour prices unless you ask. It was very expensive for tacos, $106 for 12 tacos, chips and salsa and 2 happy hour margaritas and a beer.

The food was good, there was no wait on a Friday. The blonde waitress however, didn’t ask us our drink order, kept rushing us, and only checked on us once to give us the check. She was annoyed when I asked for an actual drink and didn’t offer us desserts. “Bartender B” is on the receipt. 10-11-22 @8:37

The first time I went it was amazing. Our waitress Alan was amazing. He would make sure if we needed anything. The food was extra delicious. The second time I went 6pm 09-16-22 the food was extra delicious but our waiter would ignore us we ask for a cup a water(8 mins later) and came back asking us if we need anything and we ask we want water, he did not make sure to check on us instead he attend other tables. It was clear enough that he did not seem happy to attend us. It’s an authentic Mexican restaurant. Unacceptable
