Margaronas Cantina

In the area decided to stop at this location for lunch. The staff was very kind. The food was good but not great but I’ve eaten at lots of Mexican restaurants and become sort of a Mexican food critic. What makes this place nice is the apparent large portions and the extremely kind staff I’ve always said that good staff can make any food taste good. This is not a location that we typically go to and now having tried it I would say this is not a location that I looked to return. I think if you’re in the area and you’re looking for Mexican food, this will check all your boxes.

Stopped in for a quick margarita and snack.
Tasty margarita & perfectly cooked poblano pepper. Thin chips with spicy salsa and queso. Friendly bartender. I would return when in the area.
The only con was the cleanliness of the bathroom which threw me off at first. Lots of broken equipment.

My first time visiting this restaurant. They have many drink options and food options. I ordered a nacho fajita. The fajitas nachos was very good I will say that. The tortillas was fried hard made inti nachos. The drink I had was a sunset margarita which is pretty good not as strong of a liquor but it is durable. my friend had another dish that I don't recall a name but it was a burrito she didn't like the texture or taste of it but overall not too bad as a place. The price was decent.

Margaronas Cantina is nice Mexican restaurant in Homewood. From nice service to really good food the overall experience my friends and I had was great!! We ended up trying many different entrees (shown in the photos). I got the carnitas and loved it! The selection of food to choose from is great and the food came out in ~20 mins.

The taco was very good. Had a margarita for $15 it was small and really couldn't taste the tequila. Also had a mochahetti flavorful plentiful for two. The meat had a seasoning that was good but over powered the actual protein. Would possibly go back but to try some of the other offerings.

Ordered the Chili Poblano which is also called a Chili Relleno; which comes with two. First, seating was quick for one person, the food came out quick and hot. What got me was how yummy the Chili Poblano was; the breading was just right with slightly thick and not soggy, the poblano pepper was crisp like it was fresh, and then it was filled with a good helping of melty gooey cheese. Cost was with a drink was less than $20 before tip.

Good location for a to go as it’s right off exit on Lakeshore but for to go it’s a No. My house loves Mexican so we are always ordering from somewhere new and this place is open later than most- every time we order to go they leave out chips and salsa- 3xs! The 2nd time we called and said you left it out, (you are charged extra for this), no napkins, just the one set of utincils w napkin inside was given for 3 meals- and they said,” you can drive over for it” Needless to say , we did not. Months later we order again and same, call and say hey, enough is enough. What’s up there? Carne asada has a TINY portion of meat , left out options- Mgr scoffed to emply like I don’t care or maybe I don’t believe this and replied, “ You can come get a free cheese dip.”- I literally laughed. He asked what I wanted bc that is a $10 offer. His exact wording. I said I’m making you aware it isn’t a one off situation in hopes you can make the necessary changes and informed him that I have my receipt for POP and would like a redo as the last three times were not the most stellar. He hesitated for a moment and agreed.. not the best customer service to have to negotiate for a mistake on their end. You can throw a rock and hit a Mexican restaurant so it’s a miss for me.

Normally, when I come here. The food is amazing snd service is excellent, but when my friend and I came here for dinner yesterday, I was disappointed. Our service did not seem interested in serving us. She did not come to check on us or refill our waters or even bring more chips and salsa. Also, I ordered the shrimp fajita quesadillas and the shrimp did not taste seasoned.

I've been ordering here for the past 2 years and it's going downhill. Regarding my most recent to-go order: the chips were stale, I didn't receive the cheese dip I ordered (and paid for), and I received a (very dry) chicken taco instead of the cheese quesadilla that I ordered. Probably won't be back.

Visited this place. There is gratuity added for parties of 4 or more. Me and my guy was on a ticket and my daughter and her boyfriend was on a ticket. Me and my guy was charged a gratuity with just me and him on the ticket. My daughter and her borrowed was not. I had a grande margarita there was not an ounce of liquor in it. I complained and nothing was done. The food was good no complaints there. Probably will not visit there again. I was over charged on my ticket and I ordered the biggest margarita and it had no liquor in it....

First time visiting Alabama. The wife and I came across marharonas cantina seeing as it was down the road from our hotel. We decided to try it and it was a good decision. I've never had Mexican spaghetti with chicken and fettuccine noodles. I'm glad I tried it, it was delicious! Their micheladas were great too. Definitely a good spot to drop by and grab some food and drinks.

I heard of this place from one of my friends, and it did not disappoint! We (my boyfriend and I) experienced authentic Mexican food, good portion size, a variety of choices, and friendly staff. It wasn't busy at all. We went on a Saturday around 2 PM. Definitely will be returning!

Everything was perfect from the chips and salsa to the main dishes. The flavor of the Mexican guacamole was the best I’ve had and everything so fresh. Had chicken chimichangas and beef flautas supreme , both meats were fork tender. Was staying at a nearby hotel, lucked out and picked this place to call for take out. Will be a regular go to when I’m back in this Birmingham area which is at least once a month.

My first time visiting this restaurant. They have many drink options and food options. I ordered a nacho fajita. The fajitas nachos was very good I will say that. The tortillas was fried hard made inti nachos. The food was decent, and the flavors were pretty good.

With that said, the atmosphere and service were mediocre. The music was too loud inside, which made conversing difficult. Additionally, the waiter spent a lot of time in the main area on his phone, even while we were waiting for service and the check. He eventually came over, but I'm not sure it is wise to have employees on their phones when they have customers.

The food was excellent and portions were generous. Our food came out quickly and the table service was very good. Soft drinks are a little pricey, but the entree's were reasonably priced. We will definitely visit here again.

The waiter did not bring me the drink I asked for and didn’t seem to care or understand that it was wrong. I wanted a glass of patron on the rocks and got a shot of patron. The chimichangas were not great. Kinda soft and covered with a white melted cheese that tasted like Velveeta. The beans were good.

The wife and I were just out with the grand baby and found ourselves. In front of them. I've eaten there b4, but have not been back in a looooooong time. And you know how it gets, when a place has been there 4ever. Things start slip. The quality my go down. Not here if anything, it was better than I remembered. I had the Nochos. Wish I had taken a picture but, There was a hefty portion. That I devoured. The wake had her standard chicken quesadilla. That she ate the whole thing. Normally, she doesn't. But she had to love it to do that. Can't recommend them enough.

Went to have some tacos and this place was highly recommended. Food was great and the bartender was attentive. Ordered a Don Julio Blanco on ice and was asked if I wanted to make it a dble. Always. I had two drinks and three tacos. Tacos were $15 and two dble drinks was $54, was charged $13.50 for each shot. Will not return and am spreading the word! Very sad that a restaurant overcharges their customer's.

I loved the flavor of my dish but small things made me rate the way I did. I ordered the Durango steak cooked medium. The flavor was amazing however my steak was cooked well with the exception of a random fatty piece at the bottom. The meal came with rice a vegetable medley covered in cheese and shrimp. When the server said it was a nice sized steak they weren't lying. My lady had the Mexican spaghetti which didn't come out so well. The flavor was good however the noodles were undercooked ruining the entire dish. Outside of these minor miscues I would eat there again

Great service! We only ordered water, so I can not speak to the margaritas. What I saw coming from the bar, they looked good. The chips and salsa were amazing. The salsa was really, really good.

The food was delivered quickly. Hubby ordered fajitas, and I ordered a quesdilla. Both were very flavorful.

Prices weren't too bad considering how much food prices have increased over the past year. Our bill came to about $40. If you pay in cash, you do get a slight discount. We didn't experience the discrepancy issues that others have. We're older and traveling through, so we went before the dinner rush.

We are so glad Cantina is back!! And just like old times!! I had the chicken enchiladas, and my wife had a fish taco and a shrimp taco. We shared the guacamole, salsa and a cup of corn, and it is so good!! And the margaritas are awesome, as always!!! Everything was delicious! We really appreciate that they kept the recipes and that everything tastes just as it did before!! We will definitely be regulars as we are just 10-15 mins away!

I placed a to-go order of 3 Tacos. When I arrived home, I took a bite of my food, and to my disappointment, the meat tasted like a ground beef substitute product. It was cold and tasteless. I was very disappointed as I was very hungry after a long day of working. This is not Ground Beef.

READ YOUR RECEIPT!! They will get you if you don’t check!! THIEVES!!!The service was HORRIBLE!! The menu prices are different from your ticket. It was my daughter’s birthday this is what she wanted to eat. The food was good!! They need to honor their menu prices when asked about the 20% gratuity instead of 15% stated at the bottom of the menu he caught an attitude. The chairs were wet at the table the waiter sat us at. The men servers barely speak/understand English. The server wasn’t friendly at all. They act this way because they know at the end of the party they can put that gratuity on the ticket rather the service is good or bad. ⭐️ Out of five stars !! This rating is DEFINITELY a 1..

Pretty good experience. The food was decent for the cost. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla and my grandma ordered a mushroom & chicken quesadilla. Hers Vs mine was night and day. Hers was huge and mine looked like a taco so a tad disappointed in that. The service was great!

Food taste was great but was shocked to see an extra 18 percent added . When checked I was told it was a tip but it didn't say tip on the receipt. Just the amount with a blank line and when you sign it asked for additional tip. I usually tip more than that but did not this time for the service wasn't good .had to call the guy for every thing and wait. May be he was tired on a late Sunday evening but this charge by default used to be only for bigger parties. In any case at least mention it in line item so we don't have to check .

Very very high rating in my opinion for this Tex-mex restaurant. Not too athentic to taste but very good 👍. Carnitas especially (picture below) was out of the charts! Very good. Very nice food presentation as well. Clean environment, fast and quick service. Food came out very quick as well and not under or overcooked. Very good give this place a try 👍

The restaurant is very lovely. They have several of what I assume are the sun God hanging up that are beautiful. Their food is good in general. I strongly recommend the pulled pork tips on a pile of fries. Their ribeye is this but a good cut off meat. They are lots of good things to the steaks like mushrooms. Music is extremely loud though and the waiter did not come around as often as I would have liked.

Very attentive staff. Very good food, however, it seems the guacamole is pre-made in a bag, which blows my mind since it's one of the easiest things to make in any kitchen. We were offered their freshly made guacamole when the bagged guacamole was far too salty. But I have to give them kudos because they didn't hesitate to make it fresh for us. As other reviewers pointed out, menu prices do not match ticket prices. We were all charged more for our food than what was listed. The salsa was horrible and the food was not great. The guacamole and frozen margarita were good. The service was great.

Price was different from the menu and the waiter could not give an explanation of why. We were charged a gratitude upfront for some people but not others. Charged additional for the use of credit card versus cash. Food was average at best. I asked to speak with manager and he never came out.

We had a baby with us there was not even 2 and ask for the quesadilla for kids menu and they come back out with just a quesadilla there wasn't even cut no beans no rice nothing. Did not seem to to be really concerned with our table.

The shell for taco salad not so great. Other than that, good stuff.
