Very nice wait staff. Got steak Fajitas and a cheese enchilada. The steak was really good and tender. The enchilada was okay. Still can't find a great one here in Alabama. I'm from Southern California so it's hard to compete. Will be back to try more food.

Long-time customer who really likes Mexican food. Have tried a lot of Mexican restaurants in Madison County and keep coming back to El Monte's. Food is excellent and very consistent quality.
But the eating experience is all-the-better because of Melanie, the server we always request. She is outstanding and sees to our needs as a consummate worker. She re-visits our table to ensure we like our food and our beverages are always refreshed.
Her kink demeanor and smiling face is like the dessert of our meal. She is a real treasure!

Came on a Tuesday night while they had trivia going- that started at 7 pm and went for about an hour and 45 minutes. Food came out in a timely manner, even for our table of 10 and it being pretty busy there. Cheese sauce is good, got that on my enchiladas. My dish was pretty mild- as in not incredibly flavorful, but I do generally like to add stuff to make my food spicy so I’m usually looking for a little bit more pizzazz. If you like hot sauce their house made stuff is pretty good. Prices are reasonable, and they have an a la carte menu if you wanted to order a single burrito or side of rice. Would eat here again!

This place is solid. Good happy hour. Food is good except the Carne Asada dish. Whoever they get their beef from is bad. Management shouldn’t be cheap and should actually get real skirt steak instead of whatever they serve. Cooks/chef can only work with what they are given.

My wife and I dined there, and it was not a pleasant experience. I understand there are shortages, but about 3 of the 5 things we asked for they were out of between food and drinks.

They brought out chips and salsa. The chips were plain, no flavor... wait, they did have a flavor, grease. The salsa tasted like watered down tomato sauce you use for spaghetti.

My wife ordered a beef burrito, but it was so soggy (almost soup). Almost like they cooked the beef, boiled it, and as they were straining it, placed it on the tortilla. However, the rice and beans were delicious.

I ordered a "plato de carne asada." The meat was way overcooked, almost like jerky. The so-called "pico de gallo" was a large scoop of diced tomatoes. No onions, cilantro, Chile, or lime.

Thid establishment is catering to the primary local demographic that goes there. However, it is not really providing a true cultural exchange and experience of food and thus is deceiving and robbing its customers of this. I visited a place in Decatur, Alabama called "Sami' Place" and I feel that after that place shut down, it relocated and opened up as this restaurant.

Lupita was amazing! Right on time, friendly, got everything we needed right away, always available and the place was busy. The food as usual was fabulous. The fiesta ranchero (mine) was more than I could eat (I'm 6'5 and 270 lbs.) and the chicken fajitas salad (my bride's meal) was delicious. The chicken win appetizer is wonderful - a pleasant surprise and better than the winf restaurant near by.

Sunday June 23, 2024 I ordered three steak chalupas and 2 shrimp fajitas over the phone I first drove 30min to pick up order got home to find lots of rice and beans guacamole, lettuce tomato cheese dip and lots of chips and salsa the shrimp fajitas were there but no steak chalupas I called let them it was missing the steak chalupas i was reassured that it would be made for us i drove back 30min. To pick up this order got back home still no steak chalupas just more guacamole, chips and lettuce tomato and cheese I had to call back and ask for a refund I came back 30min drive to see the manager look thru all bags and give no free meals no nothing but the $67.00 I spent all this was poor service I would not recommend this place to anyone. I am sure they just didn't want to give what was asked of them. That's too bad 😞

Only bad about the place is that the people in kitchen area vape ( clearly visible from table 10) then the smell of cherry from the smoke. Also same guy was drinking in the same area.

We frequently have lunch here but yesterday on Friday we saw a big cockroach and we just had placed our food order $60 we were finishing our drinks $20 and this cockroach walk right next to us under the table on the wall. My husband killed it and showed it to the manager and he said “if you want to eat here it’s up to you.” Did not apologize or comp our lunch. We will not be returning here. Nor did we eat just paid for our drinks and went somewhere else.

Ordered to go as we always do. Got home with part of the order missing. Also I ordered chicken fajitas and the portion was very small compared to what it usually is. We were not very pleased with this visit. This is usually our go to Mexican restaurant.

We used to come here at least twice a week but that has dwindled down significantly lately because the quality of the food has declined drastically. If you order a grilled chicken taco or burrito you can almost guarantee the chicken will be old and stale and taste tough and reheated. It was so bad tonight that I picked the grilled chicken out of my burrito and just ate my side of rice with the tortilla. We have repeatedly had this issue, and I've had similar experiences ordering their steak fajitas, tough old steak that was reheated. Really sad to have what used to be one of our favorite places disappoint us so many times.

Hostess was really sweet, she helped us with nice booth since it was our first visit.
Diego was our Server and he was fast,efficient, and has many good suggestions on how to help me order.
Totally left with full belly.
Good food made to order. With excellent service. Also played good 🎶 music.
At enjoyable volume.
They also have full bar, with real bartender mixing drinks.
Great decor, awesome place to bring group. Highly recommend you visit this location. Either by yourself or bring

A favorite place to visit for family weekday dinners, lunch time with coworkers & ladies margarita night out. The service is always excellent & food arrives fast and fresh. We never feel rushed when we hang out here so it’s the perfect neighborhood spot to socialize with friends or coworkers. When you want something a little lighter, try the chicken soup with rice! Great take out food too when you want something fast for home. The food is ready within 15 minutes for pick up. It’s great we have a locally owned restaurant like EL Monte in the north east Madison County area!

The food here is really good and it comes out very quickly no matter how many people are there. The staff are very friendly and all but one that I have experienced are very quick. The staff are attentive to your needs from margaritas to wet towels while you're curled up on the floor (I have witnessed this). My ONLY complaint is they don't have fishbowl size margaritas, other than that five stars for them.

I order on DoorDash all the time but I’ve dined in a couple times as well.

The Hawaiian quesadilla or the chimichanga with chicken is normally my go-to. Their strawberry daiquiris are the best. I haven’t had anything here I didn’t like. They always get my delivery orders correct.
