Sadly, this didn’t hit the spot at all. Service and atmosphere was fine. But the birria egg rolls were a miss. The chicken tacos and spicy pork tacos were both genuinely bland.

Sauces were good, however. I may give them another shot but there’s too many other places with much better tacos for me to return any time soon.

Great selection of groceries, fresh meats, fruits and vegetables, and hot bar. Lots of fresh and dried spices for your recipes and frozen foods for your not recipe nights too.
Restaurant was also fantastic. Not fancy but great good and great service. Quiet on Taco Tuesdays but real busy on the weekends. Birria Quesa Tacos, Birria Egg Rolls, and Enchilada Verde were all fantastic. The fresh peppers and salsa were also quite tasty. Would definitely eat here again.

Update: went back and had the Birria Tacos and some Birria egg roll. Both were excellent and the portion sizes were large. The Birria tacos were what I expected, the egg rolls were a pleasant surprise. Super crispy wrapping was a nice twist on the egg roll/Taco theme.

Stopped in for tacos on a friend’s recommendation. The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon, so I grabbed 5 carne asada tacos to go.

The beef was cooked perfectly, not dry and overdone like other places I’ve tried. The onions and cilantro were fresh and the salsa had good heat and good flavor.

I’ll definitely need to hit it again to sample other menu items. But I could be perfectly happy just having the tacos.

So good!! I was in town for the afternoon and googled best birria in Huntsville and this popped up. It’s inside of a Mexican supermarket, very simple atmosphere but welcoming and authentic! Service was great, very relaxed and kind. Food came out fast and it was wonderful! The chips came with 2 different salsas and a cup of onion & peppers. Heads up - the salsa is not like most Mexican restaurants… they turned up the heat for both and it’s wonderful (unless you don’t like spicy). Just be prepared if you’re not used to spicy! If I’m ever in Huntsville at mealtime, I’ll be back!!

I love their Birra Tacos, the best, I've tried probably 6 other places and theirs is the best...I tried the Carn Asada fries, the toppings had flavor, but it really needed cheese dip, the steak was super tender and flavor, the fries were good, just need that little extra lift with cheese dip. I love the chips, sauces, and the onions and peppers in lime...
My server was great.

Detestable, disgusting and dirty I found a cockroach in a Birria Ramen it's amazing how they dare to sell something like that. Take responsibility and hygiene measures to then sell food. Terrible.

The birria tacos here is best meal in Huntsville Alabama hands down💯💯. The salsa and pickled veges eith freshly made tortillas are great as well! Check out the market side too, as they have tons of latin items you can't find anywhere else. Great butcher.

I wish they were a bigger supermarket. We like the taqueria but occasionally it's hit or miss. When we order takeout we just hope for the best. When it's good it's great! When we're disappointed in the food, it's usually because they skimp on ingredients in the tortas.

La Colonial is our go-to for Mexican food whenever we're in the area. My wife is Mexican and is very picky with Mexican food and she loves La Colonial and wants to go there anytime we're around. She loves the tripa tacos and I love chorizo burritos. Our kids eat the beans and rice and it's always a struggle getting them to eat food. Their horchata is also the best we've been able to find in the area.
The attached supermercado is great as well. We get all of our jicama here and regularly pick up jellos and snacks. We've even gotten a couple Encanto dresses that our kids love to wear and dance around like the movie.
All around a great place and always a joy to visit, even if I leave feeling several pounds heavier than when I walked in.

It's a grocery store with a restaurant located inside.
The grocery store carries almost everything you need to create a mexican dish.
The restaurant menu is impressive, and the flavor of the dishes available is very authentic and spot on flavor.
They are the only restaurant that opens early enough on Sunday for you to enjoy an authentic Mexican breakfast. We will be visiting this place every weekend.

I think they got the best mangos and papayas in Huntsville. You can get groceries, buy a hot meal to eat, and/or get an unusual drink from the coolers. I often have to hold myself back from getting too excited about the produce and grocery items I can't easily find in other stores.

QUE BUENO! Found this spot by accident. Located inside a Mexican grocery store the dining room is colorful and appears ultra clean. The service was off the charts and the food was equally as good. The red sauce, which is made daily, is NOT for the weak of heart. It was sooooo good that I bought 8 oz of it to go! Definitely a hidden gem.

Good market if you want to get some authentic Mexican food at the restaurant or some food to cook your own meals. They usually have yams and a few other "ground foods," although the last time I went, they didn't have any. Also, they usually have nice selections of plantains, green banana, and some other choice goods.

No me gusta dejar bad reviews pero las mecerás k tienen en la taqueria son groceras. Fui a ordenar algo para llevar y tardaron mucho en atenderme. Entraban más gente y luego luego las meseras los ayudaban. Le tuve k pedir porfavor k me atendieran y le dije a la muchacha “discúlpeme quiere pedir algo para llevar” y me dice “o si?” Como si estoy ahí parada por gusto ósea que mal educadas. Soy mitad gringa no se si pensaban que no hablaba español o que pero que feo que me trataron así y era mi primera ves en esta tienda. Por las meseras mal educadas no regreso. They are RUDE.

Long story short to translate the waitresses are RUDE. Someone said if you’re not Hispanic they don’t help you and the funny thing is I am Latina & I speak Spanish, I’m just half white & they walked past me and helped everyone else but me I had to ask for my order to be taken and then the waitress got smart with me.

This authentic Mexican restaurant and store has one of the best aguas frescas” spa waters” that I have tried, the food was good I had the Enchiladas verdes with chicken which they were spicy just how they supposed to be if you like spicy food, the salsa with chips was really good, definitely recommend this place.

If you're looking for true hole in the wall and some amazing Mexican food, I highly recommend checking out La Colonial. It's a hidden gem located inside a Mexican supermarket off of Jordan Lane. The interior is plain, but it is inside a Latin supermarket. One bite and you will agree their quesa-birrias are cooked perfectly sand seasoned to perfection. As a foodie, I can say that it's one of the most authentic Mexican dining experiences I've had and definitely worth trying. I've eaten at many other restaurants around town, and a lot of them are not as flavorful.

The chips and salsa appetizers were so authentic! The salsa was actually spicy and the chips were made in house. Tried the a sope and taco and would recommend both! They birria must be a favorite because they were all out…guess we’ll have to go back;)
On the way out, make sure to get some Mexican snacks or groceries!

Awesome food. I did great with my responses in Spanish. Go me!!! They totally understood me, smiled BK, shook my hand when I was leaving and said please come BK. I made some jokes that had them tickled, let them see some funny videos, which I was then offered a Modelo... Sure thing I 🤔 thought... I was 1 shot away from jumping on top of the pay counter as I was leaving when u hear them come together and yell out Tequila while doing the Pee Wee Herman....
