Authentic Mexican food with a modern touch!
We visited La Esquina Cocina to try their restaurant week specials.
We had a taco plate (tacos: al pastor, grilled shrimp, and avocado) with rice and beans and the restaurant week special which was a 4 taco flight (we chose carne asada, grilled fish, chorizo, and cochinita pibil), chip & dip trio, and a choice of dessert.
We had to ask for the chips and dip to be brought out after our tacos arrived, but other than that service was nice. The food was delicious.

Cool mex bar restaurant. Modern vibe . Food was good not mesmerizing. Tried Al pastuer tacos , chick enchiladas verde and chips-guac.. tried summer mule special cocktail- pretty but light on vodka.. next time I will order beer on tap and try the food items. Also note seating was hard chairs only— no padded seats in the place. Seated easily at 445 on a Saturday.. place filled by 6 pm when we left. Service was excellent.

I have never had chorizo artichoke dip, but I have now and it was amazing!
We also had a steak sandwich that was flavorful and crispy as well as a delicious chicken quesadilla. I also recommend the sangria as super refreshing!
Only Con - the queso dip was kind of mid.
overall 4.5/5 I will definitely be back to try more!

I have just had the best egg sandwich at brunch at La Esquina. (I didn’t get a picture because I didn’t want to put it down after starting it.) The fried eggs were jammy and didn’t run all over the place. The avocado was actually ripe. There was the right amount of salt hanging out with the arugula. The tomatoes were not dripping their insides all over the bread. The aioli was there but not too much, and the bread was toasted just enough and held up. I know, it’s an egg sandwich—what’s the big deal?? I think it’s because it just epitomizes the kind of food my husband and I have had consistently here. (I’m still sitting at my table thinking about the egg sandwich.) There is obvious care in the food and the presentation. It is well prepared and satisfying. We come to brunch frequently enough to say with confidence their coffee is very good and you won’t go amiss with the potatoes too. I’ve yet to have something I didn’t enjoy. The atmosphere is relaxed and all in all it’s worth it.

I really wanted to give this restaurant five stars. It’s close, but I left wanting more both in flavor and portion. The service is great, our server provided good recommendations and she was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very cool, and very clean. Probably one of the cleanest restaurants I’ve been to in a while. The drink was ok. I got some seasonal margarita I probably would not get again. Interesting fall type apple flavor margarita. The food was decent, but we didn’t leave very full or super satisfied. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but not great. I’d recommend the nachos, but make sure you add meat. We saw another table with nachos and ordered it because it looked good and it was a giant tower of food. When our nachos came out it was a little disappointing because we didn’t order meat. I didn’t expect it to make such a big deal so I guess that’s my fault. Still tasted good though. The combo platter was served a little funny but I liked the unique presentation. The tacos were decent, although I wouldn’t get the chorizo tacos again. The steak taco was good, although and little dry. The pork taco was on point. Avocado taco was very good. Was a little disappointed in the beans and rice of the combo though. It seemed like an afterthought on the menu and was very basic and a bland. I wouldn’t get the combo again and would just stick with tacos. You aren’t missing much. Buyer beware, if you ask for hot sauce, they charge you for the home made stuff- and don’t tell you. You’ve been warned. It’s not worth it though, stick with the generic bottled stuff. All in all it was a good experience and I would probably come back.

One of the best places to eat in Huntsville. This is a higher-end, classy Mexican restaurant with amazing food, excellent service, and a fun, lively atmosphere. The dining area is clean, contemporary, and bright with natural light through the large windows. The entire kitchen is visible through a large glass wall and you get to watch the kitchen staff cook your food as well as prep the fresh made salsas and sauces. The chips and salsa is a must for a starter. The food is unique, fresh, and vibrant. The cocktails are hand-crafted and absolutely delicious. La Esquina Cocina is a must visit if you’re in the Huntsville area!

The experience was ok. It took around thirty minutes to get our entree after me and my mother made the order. I noticed that there wasn't a lot of waiters or waitresses even though we came in when it just opened. I wasn't expecting a Mexican restaurant to not give us salsa chips for free, which is disappointing since Rosie's Cantina and Phil Sandoval's Mexican restaurant does. The Asian tacos were ok. The atmosphere is great though.

Not impressed at all. This seems like someone is trying to make a Mexican restaurant into a "fancy" restaurant, with small portions and high prices. The chairs are hard as a rock, the drinks are weak and tiny, and they didn't even start us out with chips and salsa. I won't be back.

My first and last experience at La Esquina Cocina. Staff were very friendly and polite but service was abysmally slow for a table of 12 despite only a handful of patrons seated. Drink orders seemed to be at 30 minute intervals and I only had water. It took 45 minutes to order a round of appetizers and more than 30 minutes for them to arrive. Food quality and flavor was terrible. I ordered the Poblano pasta with shrimp and scallops and literally spit out my first bite. The seafood was spoiled and it was the entire dish was visually unappealing. No one at the table finished their meal despite ordering a wide variety of dishes. Would definitely not recommend anyone give this place a try and I’m frankly shocked that their ratings are as high as they are.

This is definitely not a place to grab something real quick. There is no parking in the area after driving around hunting for a parking place and walking half a mile by the time I got in the restaurant I was ready to sit down and have a drink and with hardly no other patrons in the building I felt that would be feasible but unfortunately it didn't happen. We were seated pretty rapidly but only to sit and wait. The food is definitely not Mexican and nothing to write home about. After we ate and previously requested the bill we still sat and waited some more, whole time there was hardly no customers in the establishment. Needless to say I will not be returning nor recommending this place to anyone that I know.

My wife was excited for her Birthday weekend and most excited to have her favorite Margarita's , tacos, chips, quac etc. at La Esquina. We stopped by at 1:40 pm Sunday August 12th only to be discouraged by the front hostess to not eat there. She indicated they would be closing at 2 pm and clearly didn't want to seat us. I worked in the restaurant industry for years and understand the frustration when someone comes in 5 minutes before closing but this was ridiculous. Incredibly disappointed as this was my wife's choice for her Bday and we ending up at another Mexican restaurant instead. Needless to say we will not return.

Went with a party of eight for Sunday brunch. The drinks were excellent - we had the Holy Mary and various flavors of mimosas. The quesadilla scramble was an absolute hit, but the chilaquiles, both verdes and rojos, were painfully salty to the point of being inedible. Two people ordered steak and eggs and one received a thick, delicious, and juicy steak while the other received something as thin and leathery as my bag. Love the concept and the service was excellent, so hopefully they can clean up some of their kitchen inconsistencies.

Really delicious food! Great tacos and guac. The serving platter for the tacos is form over function, while it looks pretty, all your tacos insides go spilling over the edges as it's not a plate but just a serving platter. Also, the service was a bit mid, wish they were nicer, but still worth going.

I hate even writing a review because the food was so bad. The service was good. The place is new and nice. But That was the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten in my life. And they charged me $7 for some cheese dip that I never order or got. The only thing they had that I thought tasted good was the sweet tea...

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and accommodates large parties (i.e. 12 ppl). Of note, in order to be seated at least half of the party have to be present. This isn’t like most Mexican restaurants where food comes instantly upon ordering - expect somewhat of a wait. I assume that’s because items are made fresh to order. Overall, you can’t go wrong with the bowls. I ordered the Pollo Bowl and it was packed with flavor. I highly recommend the guacamole dip as an appetizer. Avoid the queso dip, it’s super bland. I also tried the Sangaria x2, there were inconsistencies between the two pours. The first pour was mid but the second was way better. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and would definitely be back.

New favorite spot! The atmosphere is very clean and chill, the menu has good variety without being overwhelming, and the service is genuinely kind! Get the guacamole --super fresh and some of the best I've had! They have a really neat and eclectic drink menu--I highly recommend the Rosemary 75. The tacos were fabulous (I had the carne asada, grilled shrimp, and carnitas). The portion sizes were more than expected, and the rice and beans had great flavor. Me and some girlfriends had a lovely dinner and could actually hear each other speaking, which can be an issue at many other downtown spots. I loved it! Absolutely going back!

It’s possible that our expectations were too high for this downtown restaurant, but after going ourselves, we realized what the other reviewers were talking about. The sound does bounce around the space in a way that I could hear everyone else having a conversation even though I couldn’t directly make out what anyone was saying. We went during lunch… the margaritas were small, overly juicy and not priced accordingly. Go to any Taco Mama if you want an actual margarita that gives you bang for buck. I’m a small chick and the dip was a small amount even for me by myself let alone me and my date to share. The food was meh. We got a bowl and empanadas. I bit into one empanada and got pure chicken cartilage which was unfun. The most unfortunate part of the meal was the Tres Leches Spice Cake. The cake was so dense. It was a decent spice flavor but so lacking on the “Tres Leches” idea that I had to ask for more “leche” so we could drizzle it on (soak it into) the dry, thick cake. As a Cuban, I was actually kind of offended that they could market that dry cake as a Tres Leches style cake. Just call it a Spice Cake so that people won’t order it with an expectation. Overall, won’t be back which is too bad because it’s always nice to have a new place downtown to eat. It’s worth mentioning our waitress seemed aggravated that we even came in which had me laughing awkwardly the entire time.

What can I say other than I fell in love. Beautiful plating, amazing service, and most of all the best Mexican I’ve ever had. Absolutely disappointing. I ordered fajitas to go. Decided to wait for the to go order after ordering a top shelf margaritas with water received this however my order was never placed. The owner acted as if it was my fault. However, I've been ordering from them for 2 + years. Gave me a sub standard dinner to replace the original order. Thats not what i wanted and would have definitely paid for my original order.Just hated their attitude about the situation. Will never return to payron this establishment. Very unprofessional and jerk like behavior. Will try the other Mexican restaurants even though I've ordered from them numerous years. I will now try the others for Mexican cuisine. The food is pretty decent, and better than the last time I went a year or so ago. Service was fine, but the place is so busy on weekends that there's no way the staff can keep up with everything, and so service suffers. It's packed to the gills and everyone is standing around waiting to be seated, so getting to the table, or trying to get out the door to leave isn't much fun.

Heard about this place and was expecting something different. Let's start by saying it was a holiday week so maybe the normal workers were off. Ordered Pollo Bowl which was super bland and hate to say nasty tasting as if unseasoned leftovers were thrown in a bowl together with cold chicken strips straight out of the refrigerated bag. And the heap of soft runny refried beans that lacked any hope of favor but yet together with a lump of creme, was all I could taste in the dish. Sadly, I couldn't eat half of it. Again, maybe the regular cooks were on holiday. If I ever return in the future, I'll order something simple like a quesadilla. But today was a disappointment.

I’m here visiting from Los Angeles, so I think I know a thing or two about tacos. I had the three taco meal with the Al Pastore chicken, the Carne Asada and the grilled Pescado fish taco. All three of which were quite good, but the one that stood out to me was the Al Pastore taco. If I were to recommend anything from this restaurant, it would be that. Since I am traveling alone for business, my overall mood was a little bit lower because I was eating alone, but then I got ice cream after, so it kind of helped.

We also recently tried one of the small plates called the Tortas De Papa. It was all so good! Wish I had taken a photo. All the food is so pretty.
As far as atmosphere. I has a really nice vibe. It’s a big, beautiful, bright open space and feels like we are in a cool restaurant in Nashville or something. They did a great job with ambiance. As far as service, our experience has been great all 3 times. The servers have been friendly and very attentive. Came here for the first time on a recommendation that “the food is good but they need more business”.. well, I found out why. They are RUDE, but the guacamole was very good! They should probably consider removing steak since they can’t cook one to proper temp. I had a couple bites of my 8 oz ribeye’s “tail” before discovering the entire stem was medium well instead of the MEDIUM RARE I so clearly ordered. Since the bartender didn’t care to check back, I ate around the steak until he could bother. I received another steak which so clearly their passive-aggressive way of fixing THEIR mistake. The 2nd one had no seasoning and it was not the cut you ever send out of a kitchen..

Wonderful tacos, tasty drinks and friendly service.

The dishes here are not worth the prices even remotely and the service was lackluster. Our family's drinks were empty most of the meal and it took 45 minutes to bring it to us. My steak was overdone and flavorless unless you count the burnt grill flavor. Also the menu said 8oz, but it was maybe 5 at most. Basically people are just paying for the aesthetic. The view on the water was nice, however.

Literally had the worst experience for a dine in establishment, McDonald's curbside had better staff/service compared to what we experienced tonight. It was super slow around 4:50pm and had several servers standing around but ours in particular took the cake and literally only brought us one glass of water each and then sat down behind us and barely saw her again for the rest of the miserable hour we were unfortunately there for. We asked for no onions for our dish and was ignored and still had onions on top and on the inside. When we got our food we asked if the onions were just on the outside or also inside she didn't apologize or anything and just said 'I'm not sure but I don't think so.' and left again. We were also left hostage and had to flag down a different server just to get our check. Management seemed to be lacking and the experience was just sad and embarrassing. We were also not pleased with over priced food that was bland and couldn't even finish our food. Food aside, the service alone was overwhelming negative I never want to see this place again. If I could post without a star I would.

Worst service I have EVER experienced. I’m sitting at a table with 7 people that was only meant for 4. Every time we asked for a table extension we were denied. However they have had a table for 14 that has been sitting empty for over an hour. All the people in my party that arrived after the first two weren’t even offered water. They told us that we were past our two hour limit (a rule that doesn’t exist) while we were still waiting on things we ordered. I will not be returning.
When we spoke to Veronica, supposedly the manager, all she said was “oh I wasn’t told you all were still ordering” no apologies or concessions for our horrible service.

Came here for cinco de mayo and got kicked out despite our whole party being here. We were still actively ordering and we noticed waiters weren't even coming to our table and It was obvious this restaurant wasn't accommodating us and was prioritizing other parties instead. We weren't offered any water either.
They don't support diverse crowds clearly! Instead they accommodate people they know zoom into the picture. They reserved their table without the entire party being there
Update: 10 minutes late I spoke to the manager Veronica and she didn't apologize or accommodate.

Well, let’s start here.
1. I placed an online order
2. I am handicapped
3. I get there and call where to park and get told there isn’t any curbside parking and the hostess should have turned that off.
4. I even gave a 10% tip for someone to do my curbside, all I got was rudeness for these young, non respectful generation. This was my first and last..
Now the food
Being fair, it was ok, nothing special, and way over priced. Google has $$, not true for this place, it’s $$$, plus way to expensive for mediocre food. Atmosphere doesn’t make up the difference , service looked average while I was there, too much talking, not enough working, I saw 2 different people have to get up to get what they wanted, it was 1/2 full at best.
Please don’t give me any excuses, there isn’t any, just another business, who doesn’t care about true customer service

I'm still dreaming about the tamarind margarita. It was perfection, perfectly sweet and refreshing. The taco plate was fantastic with the chorizo, carnitas and carne asada.

Came for Easter brunch. Adult beverages were on point, the salsa Verde was delicious & our server with the long grayish/green hair was very attentive but very difficult to hear her due to the noise level & her soft voice. Overall... the perfect place to be. Plan to come back for dinner soon.

Skip the myriad TexMex restaurants in the area and try this delicious authentic Mexican fare made with locally sourced ingredients. Ignore the modern decor and montage of the Norwegian landscape. The food is INCREDIBLE!!!!

Went to lunch here on a recommendation of the local Chamber of Commerce. It’s just around the corner from their office.
We started with the chips and the two salsas, guacamole and queso. The guacamole blew my mind it was so delicious. I knew from that moment what I ordered needed guacamole. So I ordered the chicken bowl. The little pieces of pineapple on it - gave it that little extra to make the meal exceptional. I love the atmosphere of the place. Can’t wait to go back.

Great atmosphere and service. The Pollo bowl was super good but the cheese dip was nothing to brag about.

I ordered the Mahi dinner and it looked delicious but the flavor tasted like burnt charcoal. I couldn't eat it and the burnt taste stayed in my mouth. The salad was delicious though.

Great dinner. Definitely in the upper echelon of dinner spots in Huntsville. Spicy Margarita was fresh, light and spicy. Wife had three different tacos and the fresh avocado and aioli taco was a big hit. I had the Tostada de atun...Wow... I loved the tuna and tomatillo. Great flavors. Will come back. Thanks for the great dinner and service.

Pros:
Free valet parking
Great happy hour deals
Delicious food
Good ambiance
Professional service
Cons:
Need reservation on weekends
High prices outside of happy hour
No complimentary chips and salsa
Small salsa portions
Overall:
This restaurant stands out in downtown Huntsville dining with their dedication to ambiance and quality service, and that starts with their complementary valet parking which speaks for itself! Our experience with servers, valet and management there has been exceptional.
Their happy hour specials are great- $2 off margaritas and $15 charcuterie boards are an awesome night out, but their regular prices are definitely on the higher end for the food you get (but it's pretty consistant with downtown dining and remember- free valet!). We were surprised by the appetizer plate prices for salsa or guac and chips though.
Their chips are very well seasoned and salted, so I assume they make them in house which is why they aren't complementary, but we ran out of salsa way before we finished our chips and it's another full charge to get more which is a bummer. Their charcuterie boards are lovely, with your choice of meats and cheeses with a lovely jam, berries and toasted bread. I highly recommend getting goat cheese and prosciutto, as they seemed to pair the best with the extras they put on the plate. Good quality food and ambiance for a fun night out!
