This comment is only about the location on University in Huntsville. OMG what a great meal and experience. My server, Nyja, made my experience by confirming that my meal selection was a good one. The Cheese Shrimp Fajitas are a 10 out of 10, and I would highly recommend them. Nyja's service was outstanding, and I would advise management to make her a trainer of the wait staff. It's a BIG busy restaurant, and the noise level is high, but the food is worth the atmosphere. Nyja is a 10 out of 10, don't let her go she is making you money.

Phil's is a Huntsville staple for solid Mexican food and, while the Madison location is good, you can't beat the original restaurant in Huntsville.

Food is high quality, authentic, and fast with top notch service. Not to mention, free ice cream afterwards is the perfect complement to a great meal. We prefer them over Rosie's!

Whenever you're craving good Mexican, that's fast and affordable, you can't go wrong at Phil's.

"MUCHO DELICIOSO!"
Yesterday (Wednesday, August 14, 2024) my party of three dined at Phil Sandoval's Mexican Restaurant, in Huntsville, Alabama.

As always, the meal started with their delicious chips and salsa. Next, we requested a bowl of Queso Blanco (with meat in it) as an (additional) appetizer.

For my entrée, I ordered the Beef Fajita, which has long been my favorite dish at Phil Sandoval's. One of the others in my party also ordered a Beef Fajita, but also added chicken to their's. And, the other guest ordered Beef and Chicken Nachos. Finally, we each ordered various drinks to go with our meals.

The kitchen did NOT DISAPPOINT, as everything was "MUCHO DELICIOSO!"

The presentation of the meal was pleasing to the eye. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant was appropriate and in keeping with the restaurants theme. And, our server was very attentive.

Many, many thanks to the chef, the kitchen staff, our server, and the owners and management at Phil Sandoval's Mexican Restaurant, in Huntsville, Alabama, for a very enjoyable "FEAST!"

Hadn’t been here in a few years so was excited to have it again. I used to love the queso and now I can’t stand it, it had zero flavor. Would not order again. I got chicken tacos because they didn’t have regular beef, and was disappointed as the chicken was very bland. Used to be a staple, but I don’t think I’ll be back.

Best service, they serve fresh salsa every 4 hrs and the nachos are fresh. I ordered fajita which came with rice and tortillas. I ordered a single size which was more than enough for one. They serve complimentary ice cream which is a great add to the service. Overall had great and good time. This is local favorite in Huntsville.

We were on our way to Nashville and decided to stop and try it. Bad 👎🏽 decision 😒The food was awful and cold. Our waitress was nice but a tad bit extra. She brought me a free dessert since it was my birthday. The dessert is on the menu for 9.99. If I had ordered that on my own, I would have been more disappointed 😞 because it was just as awful as the tacky nachos. These are not nachos. Just chips with meat and melted cheese.

What a neat Mexican restaurant. Large and spacious and great smells of a culture you can’t wait to sink your teeth into.

I had the chicken fajitas with rice and beans and it was outstanding!! The chips, salsa, and cheese dip were out of this world.

Stephanie did a great job serving us and our food came out almost immediately.

We came today after a long time, and we used to love it, service was great, food was delicious, today was disappointing. Service was poor, the waitress got our order for beers wrong, the queso it tasted weird, she never checked on us after bringing the food. The food didn't taste good as always. Our server was on her phone the whole time. We had to get up and go to the front to pay our bill, just then she came to pick up the check. Very disappointed. Doubt we come back.

If we could give more than 5 stars we would most definitely. The server Alberto did an amazing job! He was attentive without being too much, he has the best attitude and personality. 10 out of 10! The food was on point, the atmosphere was perfect. Very much enjoyed our experience.

Seems like they generally seat faster than the friendly competition across the street, and I would say most of the main typical Tex-Mex meals are near identical. My family and I are about an hour away and Phil Sandoval‘s is definitely on our short list of places to hit when we’re in the Huntsville area around dinner time.

We went at 6:00 on Sunday. We sat outside far from the music from the solo guitarist!
The music was soooo LOUD we could not have conversation between six of us.

I'm from Texas and this is not anything close to what I consider real Mexican food or Tex-Mex. The service and atmosphere is great. The flour tortillas were good also. But the Fajitas were dry. Not trying to bash this place because alot of people like it. I just think they have no means of comparison.

Hmm. This is a Mexican restaurant loved by many. I'm ok with it but I'm also more used to authentic Mexican. I have been over 20 times in the last several years; sometimes the food is on point but sometimes it leaves something to be desired.

Points to note:

Often the waitresses cannot speak English. This becomes an issue if you need something different and slows down service.

The bulk of your group must be present before they will seat you.

The salsa has a lot of cilantro in it which is hard for those of us that find it tasting like soap. However it is homemade on site as are their chips.

The chicken on the taco salad is more like a "slurry" and boiled in tomatoes. Some food is produced like it would be in a cafeteria rather than a higher end Mexican restaurant. Other items are delicious and made very well.

Management is nice. Very helpful.

They often have trivia night which is really cool and can be a lot of fun!

Unfortunately the fajitas were very bland and the rice was overcooked where there were hard pieces of rice in it. Unfortunately They also forgot to pack tortillas when we ordered it to go. Very disappointed in spending $43 for two person fajita.

The vegetable fajitas are described as being onions and peppers, which is precisely what I wanted. Onions and peppers with tortillas.
What I received was a plate of veggies that had no cohesion whatsoever (including potatoes, which was very strange), and no peppers that I could find.

We won’t be coming back, but the service is very good for people who have less restrictive dietary needs.

My wife and I shared a fried jalapeno slices appetizer, I would say 4 out of 5 stars, they weren't as crunchy as I was hoping for but not overly soggy. and they most definitely had a good kick to your taste buds.
Then we shared the Old Mexico platter, definitely enough for 2 people and I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars because it was good, but it could have been much better. a few of the items on the plate, I don't remember which, had so much spicy hot kick to it that we couldn't enjoy the rest of the food. tone down the heat just a little bit and ramp up the flavor that I'm sure was hiding behind the fire...

Don't recommend coming here for Mexican food. Saw the menu online without prices and thought it was worth a shot. Overpriced and not even average at that.

The mambo taxi margarita that was advertised as $1 off at happy hour was charged at regular price. Flour tortillas aren't complimentary as they are in most Texas Mexican restaurants and neither is the butter. My 10 ten year old son loves butter with his tortillas but was told they only had Mexican butter (melted butter with spices). I asked if she would bring us a little thing to try. It tasted and smelled like fish. Then saw on the receipt that we were charged a dollar for it when my plate already included it. I ordered the single beef and shrimp fajitas with borracho beans and cilantro rice which is $24.99. The cilantro rice was bland and the fajita meat was tender but sub par in taste and quality. The shrimp was well prepared.

My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas with chile con carne with refried beans and Mexican rice and said they were average. The waitress was rather abrasive at first and made us feel as we were bothering her by asking her questions about the menu. The waitress' attitude did seem to improve later.

I ordered a quesadilla and really like that they use the Mexican queso here instead of the Velveeta style processed cheese that many of the Mexican restaurants use around here. Much nicer when the cheese doesn't leave a slimy film in your mouth or stick the roof of your mouth! 😁

I really enjoyed the black bean soup, too.
Tamarind margarita was good! It could be a little less sweet, but it had a great flavor.

06-08-2024 6:53 PM Saturday evening

TERRIBLE service!! I took a date here due to
two prior terrific experiences, (with servers Nyga & Stephanie). We didn't get the name of tonight's server, but she barely understood English.
1. She refilled MY drinks, but she never refilled my lady's drink (we ordered the same drinks, btw).
2. We ran out of chips and it took too long to get more.
3. She took my lady's plate before she was done eating.
4. She rushed us to leave, by bringing the bill before we finished our entrees.
5. After not acknowledging my beautiful date during service, she placed the bill in front of HER!!
6. They parked the cart that they use to clean tables by our table as a hint to get us to leave! There were six empty tables around us!
This is NOT a place to take a date, sip cocktails and relax. If you dine alone and/or are in a hurry, I recommend the food here. But Rosie's is across the road and more chill and relaxed and they've never rushed me out of there.

Got the lunch special fish taco, came out with just fried fish in a tortilla. Nothing else, no sauce, slaw, salsa or anything. Just a plain fish taco. Seemed odd so I asked the waitress and she said nope that's the way it comes, they did bring me some guacamole and pico and after dressing it up a little it was a good fish taco. Just super odd that they'd have a plain fish taco.

Definitely not great. But it wasn't terrible. Just middle of the road.
But apparently that's what people want. You get what you pay for.
"Middle of the road" is the name of the game out here!

We have only eaten here for lunch on several occasions but I can tell you that their taco salads are the biggest I've ever seen. The attached picture does not do it justice. And their shredded pork burrito is fantastic! Beyond the cute and kitschy decor, the best thing about Phil Sandoval's is the service. Without a doubt, Isadora is the star server that we always ask for! Update: we returned to try the lunch special fajitas. Real chicken breast sliced and marinated. Not little unidentifiable stringy pieces of chicken, the actual real chicken breast. Sauteed peppers and onions, Mexican butter, and all the deliciousness that goes with it. Ranks in our top five fajitas worldwide!

My boyfriend (Dennis Orr) and I went to try it out bc we both love Mexican food...
We both ate beef burritos, which were absolutely delicious 😋 🤤😋🤤

The food was good. Honestly the ice cream was the best we've had in a minute. The issue: a table near us was being served by a waitress with a voice so loud and a laugh so obnoxious it was nearly impossible for us to enjoy our meal.

This is not Mexican food! Ribs with French fries, seriously? Please stop calling it that. Phil Sandoval should have his "Mexican" card revoked. I doubt he is Mexican at all, any. Just food for the gringos. If you truly appreciate your Mexican heritage, skip this place.

We went to the restaurant in Huntsville, Alabama. Our server was Kim. The service very prompt, the food was fast and hot, and was amazingly delicious. Highly recommended!

My boys loved our server she was so helpful and sweet answered all their questions and she had several tables but we never felt neglected! Food was a hit!

Not as good as it used to be and they nickel and dime you.
I ordered a dinner and asked to substitute the chicken taco for a beef taco. I've never had a problem in the past doing this, but yesterday was charged extrato do it. A side of flour tortillas has always been free if you dine in but with charged for it yesterday.
I recommend Rosie's which is across the street from Phil's. Rosie's does not nickel and dime you.
I have recommended Phil's to tons of people over the years but no more advertising for me

Yum! Love this restaurant. My favorite are always the steak fajitas, as they have the absolute BEST handmade tortillas in town. They've seriously ruined all other fajitas for me 😂

I like this place. The decor is festive and comfortable. The staff is friendly and GREAT at their jobs. The food is delicious. In a town with lots of great Mexican eateries, this one holds it's own; no problem.

We now live in TN and were visiting Huntsville for the weekend. AZ friends, formerly living in Huntsville, recommended that we eat at Phil Sandoval's Mexican restaurant. We haven't found a TN Mex restaurant that compares to our former AZ ones. However, we have to say your restaurant has delicious Mexican food. We dined in on Sun. Feb 4 and got take-out on Mon. For our drive home to Murfreesboro, TN. 😋 Delicious. Our server Stephen gave us fantastic service. Pls bring a restaurant location to the Nashville,TN area.

Was seated within timely manner. Queso was good, chips were very thin, and some of them were chewy. The entrees we got were both terrible. Steak in the burrito tasted bland, unseasoned and cheap. The chicken burrito tasted almost as if canned chicken was used. Rice and beans were both cold, and we did not eat more than 2 or 3 bites of our meal.

and the waitress kept repeatedly getting all in my fiancés personal space, stepping up on the platform every time she placed something near or in front of him, but miraculously didn’t have a problem keeping personal space with me.
Not sure what happened, but this place used to be so much better. Also seemed like the menu changed a lot, feel like there used to be so much more on the menu than what there is now.
