The food is sub par. For the price that is charged you would think the food would stand out, but it doesn't. The portion sizes are so small. Nothing on the menu has a wow factor. I've had better quality food at Applebee's and Chilis. That's saying a lot for me because those are 2 of my least favorite restaurants. Now this one is on that list as well. The kitchen seems so unorganized. People yelling and fussing with each other in the back. It's very clear there is no sort of management or supervision in the kitchen. It's a very unprofessional business that's needs some leadership. It would help if they made food that makes people want to come back.

Margaritas were tasty. Queso was decent, waiter was lovely BUT, We waited WAY too long for food that arrived cold. Truly cold.
We were told we'd get hot beans and hot tacos only to wait another 20 minutes. By that point, We were over it and ready to leave. It seemed costly for the quality and circumstances. They did make it right as we were walking out, brought hot plates for us to take. We appreciated the effort but Highly doubtful we will ever be back. They also need to work on their lighting.

Just received a doordash order from them. The ranch to my picado chicken salad was not closed properly so it was dumped all over my other boxes. Then I opened the box to the picado chicken salad and there was NO chicken. So I called up to the store to complain and all I could hear in the background was employees repeating my complaint and laughing. Guess it's funny to them to spend over $50 for a doordash order and not have it correct at all. Btw, military wife here. So all Maxwell will know this.

Today we went to eat the taco 3$ A "waitress" attended to us to seat us at the table and made a bad face for asking us to only change the table! There were 4 of us and she took one piece of cutlery leaving 3 and a bad starter. It is a Mexican restaurant therefore Hispanic people go to eat there. What was her problem with only changing the next table? Staff like that should stay home since it is bad vibes for the business! Sometimes waiters THINK THEY ARE THE OWNERS OF THE PREMISES, ALLOWING THEMSELVES TO TAKE ATTRIBUTIONS THAT DO NOT COMPLY WITH THEM. Bad waitress, go serve at 5 star restaurants. The other girl person who served us with PATIENCE.

I’d never come here again. I decided to give this place another try after enjoying their chicken tacos, but today I was totally disappointed. I sat at the bar for about three minutes, and no one said anything to me. Then, another customer walked in, sat one seat over from me, and was immediately greeted and asked what he’d like to drink.

Maybe the kitchen staff wasn’t feeling good today.
Kids tenders and fries were too salty and spicy even bbq sauce
Mexican street corn was missing all the flavor. Tasted like unsalted corn on the cobb with water queso
Im guessing the flavor for soda was out too
Bring your own sugar for the tea
Street tacos were filled full of queso and seeded peppers 🌶️ meat was chewy.
Everything was overpriced. 2 adults 2 kid tender meals no alcohol $91 Very disappointed. Wife vomited shortly after in the strip mall parking lot after only eating one of her street steak tacos.

I got the smoked chicken burrito and it was pretty big- could only eat half and got the other half to go.

Everything tasted and looked authentic, not your usual Mexican restaurant stuff that you can get everywhere.

Server was super sweet- he came back to let us know we could pay early because he had another big table and knew it would take a lot of his time. Very thoughtful of him.

This is NOT a Mexican restaurant. At best, one of the kitchen staff has a 15 day Spanish Duolingo streak. It’s like if a hospital was having taco day. It’s like going to your aunts house for your cousin’s birthday party. She’s decorated the house with a single Mexican style flower pot from Target and put pictures of corn on the walls to “add to the atmosphere.” And she says, “I got a new panini press and a rotisserie chicken from Walmart. Who wants to make quesadillas!?” The food itself isn’t necessarily standalone terrible, however it is terrible by Mexican food and restaurant standards. Neither chips nor salsa came as an automatic appetizer. Not a single Mexican person in sight. No soccer on the TV. No mexican music. No sombrero and Feliz Cumpleaños for anyone. No refills. And it’s overpriced. If you want expensive Taco Bell, this is the place for you.

I can whole-heartedly say it’s the best Mexican food I’ve ever tasted. They make everything from scratch..including their margaritas, corn/flour tortillas and salsa…I loved the salsa so much that I purchased a pint to take home…(various flavors you can try…) The steak & brisket are high quality & cooked to perfection (And that was just on my tacos!) We tried the frozen Sangria Margs on special ($5/ea) and they were crazy tasty & refreshing! They even offered a bowl of chilled water for my pup in the patio area! The staff were friendly and personable… I will return anytime i’m in Montgomery…PLEASE COME TO ATLANTA!! Wish I took more pics of the food…sorry…

This was my first time to Little Donkey. I came in for lunch and sat at the bar. The bartender, PJ, was so welcoming and explained the whole menu. He told me about all of the specials and even gave me samples of the salsas. He explained that everything at the restaurant is fresh and homemade. I tried all of the salsas and it’s hard to say which one was my favorite! I also ordered the adobada and smoked chicken tacos with the street corn as my side. Frozen drinks were 1/2 price and I tried their frozen margarita. The food, the drinks and the service was amazing. I sat at the bar but everyone in the restaurant made me feel welcome. I look forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu.

Basically it was a disaster!! The owner needs to get a manager that knows how to run this place.

The fried chicken was hot but overcooked and seemed to be cooked in old grease. The spices cause the dark color in fried chicken, but it wasn't just dark; it had a slightly burnt taste to it. My husband's tamales were very good, although the Masa is Very thick, and the ratio of Masa to filling is off. The pickled veggies are usually a favorite of mine, but the portion was VERY SMALL, and it was NOT fresh. I usually order an extra portion of it, but not this time. Our server was not very skilled at waiting tables! I ordered an Arnold Palmer, but they dont have lemonde, so he suggested limeade, which was absolutely delicious. I asked for mostly tea with a splash of limeade. It was perfect, THE FIRST GLASS... When he brought the second glass, he did half and half. It was awful, and he admittedly remarked, "I gave you half and half this time. I hope you like it..." SERIOUSLY? If I ask for mostly tea with a splash, AND I'M SATISFIED with it WHY would you take it upon yourself to change it? I asked for more tea, which he brought in a separate glass but I couldn't get it to taste right, so I ordered the third glass expressing that he please make mostly tea with a splash of limeade like before... The limeade was almost non-existent and the tea tasted watered down! I was done! We finished our meals and left but we're in no hurry to go back. Sorry, Little Donkey, but please step it up.

The food tasted good, but i asked for no cilantro, and my server repeated it back to me, and both my tacos were served covered in cilantro. It was 1130 am and they did not have chicken for quesadillas, now maybe and a mom and pop restaurant wont have ingredients for dishes on their menu, but i expected more from this place. I did notice other customers, seemed as if they were happy with their service, and maybe when you become a regular customer, you have a better experience here. So I'm very torn on my evaluation of this place. Maybe I just had a 1 time bad experience, but for it to be my 1st visiting, I'm not sure it would make me want to go back again. I'm just giving my honest opinion on my experience. I hope it doesn't happen to every customer.

I came back after a long time and was pleasantly surprised by the changes. The brisket quesadilla was a great portion, the pico was fresh and acidic. I didn't care for how sweet the crema was though. I also really really liked the arbol salsa which was good because I really didn't like the salsa rojo. It tasted sweet and almost like mole. Paying for salsa is not popular but the salsa arbol was well worth it and helped each bite with a little extra salt. The staff was friendly, the decor was nice. If you haven't been in a long time come back, lunch had me full and was only 17$

Experience was ok and the food was just ok.The server was excellent so a lot of what happened was out of his control. It initially took ten minutes to get water to our tables and it came by way of the server that I mentioned. He was passing by and ask if we had received drinks yet and with a reply of no,he went and got water immediately. At that time we knew the drinks we wanted and appetizers so we order both.We waited another ten minutes for drinks and the appetizers almost came out with the entrees. If the server wasn't as nice as he was,we would have probably left. To the food. The queso was good after all it's just melted cheese lol. The guacamole was different meaning it was just avocado salt and lime juice,no onion,no tomato. It was also ok.My entree was a chicken sandwich. The chicken had great flavor but it was very dry. The salad was good.Would I revisit, maybe.I would try more traditional items of a Mexican restaurant.

2 stars for our server who was very kind. Everything else was terrible. Food was cold, not room temperature but actually cold on the inside. Several of us had drinks from the bar that took at least 30m in between, if not more. The guys only asked for beer and even that took a while. The guacamole is just smashed avocado with no seasoning. One of the waitresses had an attitude and told someone at our table to "just drink it as it is" after getting her drink wrong for the second time. Looking at the reviews, it seems obvious this particular waitress is problematic. You're better off going elsewhere.

Review №108

TLDR: food is below average, not authentic, overpriced for the quality, service is slow and waitress was rude. Go somewhere else, especially if you’re visiting in town.

I have never actually written a review before because I never felt the need to until now. I have never experienced a restaurant where the food was bad AND the service was bad, to the point where the waitress was actually rude to our table.

Went on a Friday evening with a group of ten for dinner. It wasn’t overwhelmingly busy when we first arrived. We had a young man as our waiter who said he was still fairly new. I would like to say that this review doesn’t reflect his work- it’s the surrounding staff. He did an excellent job working with our large group and was incredibly kind, regardless of how overwhelmed he may have been.

Food: was extremely disappointed. The guacamole is literally just avocado. No tomatoes, onions, garlic ( if there was any you can’t taste it). It was literally a $10 bowl of avocado. The queso tastes like melted velveeta.

I ordered the BBQ taco and the Carnitas tacos with Elote street corn on the side. It was just not good. The flavor was just not there. I’m really not a picky eater but these tacos were just not it. The pork was dry and when my BBQ taco came out, the meat was cold inside. I had the street corn off the cob, so it was served in a bowl, not mixed, with thick globs of mayo, a little cheese, and sparingly some seasoning. I was so disappointed because I really wanted to like this. The quality of the food was not worth the price at all.

The drinks were average, yet inconsistent. We had a few people order the same drink a few times, and each time it came out it was an entirely different tasting drink. I ordered the house margarita. Typically when you order margs they ask for salt or sugar around the rim. They do not ask, you have to ask for it yourself. I learned this the hard way when the waitress who brought out my drink snapped at me for asking for the salt that I had already requested *twice*. Once on the first drink that they forgot, second on the second drink they forgot again. When I asked for the salt on my second drink she replied with, “at this point you just need to drink it”. I didn’t even know how to respond because I’ve never experienced a waitress acting like that before lol. The manager came and apologized on her behalf, she never did, which I guess is fine. Just made the whole experience uncomfortable.

I’ve never in my life written a poor review for a restaurant. I usually just chalk it up as someone was having a bad day. But in this instance there was just too much bad to try and outweigh the good unfortunately.

Only giving it two stars instead of one because the young man we had serve our table saves it from a one star review.

So my wife and I wanted something different than everyone else to eat for dinner. This place was the best decision ever!!!! Everything is freshly prepared and with an authentic twist. We started out with sampling of the different salsa/sauces. OH MY OH MY! Flavor EXPLOSION! The Habanero made with carrots and onions was my favorite. The others didn't disappoint either. Who would ever think anchor chilies and cocoa powder would make a delectable salsa. My wife had the Tamale Plate which was top notch with the masa it was wrapped in and I tried 4 different tacos on homemade corn tortillas that was the first of it's kind for me to eat. Get the Adobada Taco! It is my favorite.

Staff were outstanding! Shout out to Lauren because she is just

This is hardly a Mexican restaurant. Overpriced fake Mexican food. The workers have a bad attitude. $50 for 2 people to eat is just ridiculous. The only good thing about this place is the queso. What Mexican restaurant just serves white rice? Our waitress was rude and had an attitude like she didn’t care. I got a burrito bowl that was disgusting when I could’ve gone to chipotle and got a way better one for cheaper. My boyfriend got a brisket quesadillas which was completely overpriced and not worth it. The waitress then proceeded to make us feel bad for not giving her a good tip. All in all, I have to give it all F's... fast, friendly, fantastic. Ian made sure that the food came out perfect, Lauren met our every need, and the kitchen staff were bringing their A game. Would recommend in a heartbeat. I can't wait to go back for Taco Tuesday!

I was not a huge fan of the different foods I had. The tamales were not traditional. The brisket grilled cheese was a lot of brisket, not much grilled cheese. My date enjoyed the fajitas.

It’s disappointing to have to leave this negative review, because the food is great. However, after having found plastic pieces in the food on two separate occasions (first a part of plastic wrap in a burrito, and last a 2” plastic bristle in the salsa), I have to question the quality control of the restaurant and find the risk of harm involved with eating their food to be too high to be worth it.

Ordered fajitas - 1 shrimp and brisket combo and 1 grilled chicken and steak combo. Both with flour tortillas and pinto beans. The shrimp was okay but that’s it. Everything else lacked any Mexican flavor. The chicken was charred and dry. The steak was dry and chewy. The brisket need to be cut in smaller pieces. No crema. Definitely skip the quac. The tortillas were very greasy and not good. This was a very expensive Mexican dinner. Will not order again. Also, they need to update the Google info-they no longer provide curbside service.

Nowadays it is not easy to identify the real options of Mexican cuisine from the ones presenting mostly Tex-mex food. Unfortunately Little Donkey is one of those, it is advertised as Mexican cuisine with a glimpse of south cuisine, but it is the opposite. I ordered some "Tacos al pastor" which definitely were not. The meat was not marinated the sauce used was barbecue sauce, the tortillas were not correctly heated so they broke.
Now let's talk about the shrimp fajitas, they were too salty, some drops of lime made the job to a good tasting dish. The dips asked came with some tortilla chips (totopos) which had excessive salt. The lemonade (with lime) was good, the beer was good.

We haven't been here in 7 years. My husband and I go out for lunch on Sundays. Wow! Nice vibe. It's twice as big and fun upscale. The bartender/manager was very professional and knowledgeable. He helped me order. The fish taco. You must try this! The flavors will rock your world.

This was the worst example of a Mexican restaurant. The food was trash and the service was completely horrible, 22 minutes just for the water. Was told they were out of food to have people that came 30 min after us get the same food. Will highly advise no one to go to this horrible place.

I’m a Native Texan, grew up in San Antonio. Had the brisket fajitas finally and they were very good! Last two times I stopped in late they had run out, which is a good sign. Reminded me of home. But slightly elevated even as they use a coffee rub. Smoke ring was evident. And the sautéed onions, jalapeños and peppers were a great compliment. Price was right too. Had chips and guac, a margarita, and brisket fajitas, took half of it home because it was so much food (comes with beans and rice) and I got outta here for $52 + tip (as of Aug 2023). Highly recommend this plate.

Absolutely excellent. The Little Donkey is a local restaurant serving Mexican/Southern fusion. The food is fresh, high quality, and served up beautifully, and the menu is just right - not too big. The wait staff is friendly and welcoming, and really into the food they serve. I had a great experience, and I highly recommend this restaurant to foodie tourists looking for local flavor, and as a great place to go for date night.

Knowledgeable and helpful! I got bout 7 tacos to perfection. By the time I left, I was at a 10!! Ask for him every time!
