El Gran Patron Mexican Grill

We chose El Gran Patron because it has an excellent star rating on Google and we had a great experience. We had margaritas, chips, salsa, queso, chicken enchiladas verde, the four enchiladas plate, and chicken/steak fajitas. It was all delicious!! The service was excellent and the food came out quickly. Highly recommend!

I'm delighted to have discovered a fantastic Mexican restaurant in Northport! The service from my table server was excellent, and they took good care of us. Although I ordered a Fajita for one person, the portion was generous enough for hearty appetites. Their salsa for chips doesn't include cilantro, which was a minor disappointment for me, but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and found the prices to be reasonable. I will definitely visit again.

This was my second time at this restaurant while visiting. The server was really nice and attentive at the bar, and my food came very quickly. I had thr Patron cheese dip and it was deliciouso!!! As for the quesadillas I ordered to go IT WAS HORRIBLE . There was barely any cheese, no onions or bell peppers, no lettuce, or pico with it. I definitely didn't enjoy my main entree or drink at all. So long El Gran Patron Grill, the dip ain't enough to make me travel back for mediocre quesadillas with barely any cheese, and margaritas full of juice.

The only reason I gave this place a good review was really sweet to me on the phone when I called in our order. But I think she was only nice so we trusted her with our credit card. Bc we were charged $15 more than what she told us she was going to charge!! Which honestly probably would not have ever been mentioned again (even though it is totally wrong of someone to do). But once we got the food back home, which is less than 2miles from the restaurant, our food was freezing cold! Which I thought was extremely weird considering the fact that we had to wait ten more minutes after we got there before our food was ready. So we assumed that the food was being prepared fresh. But there is just no way that our food was made right then, and was cold within 5 minutes of picking it up! I think it is a total shame that anyone working in the public would lie about how much they are charging someone's card! Makes me wonder what the sweet little girl working at the register needed $15 for that night. No matter what the reason was, I can promise you that my family and I will not ever be returning to an already too expensive place to eat dinner. Especially one where they rip their customers credit cards off for Xtra money. Please pay attention to how much they charge your card. Cause it is just likely to be a little bit more than what they tell you they are going to charge you!!!

One of my favorite restaurants. They always have the Bama game on and whatever big game is happening outside of Bama. Service is nice, food is delicious, price is respectable. Be careful entering the parking lot because it's steep, it can scrape your car. Also, I got rice beans and salad with my food which is always nice. This is my go-to Mexican place in town.

This restaurant is my and my family’s favorite Mexican food in the region, the servings are proper right, the taste yet to be topped by some else and their friendly service just top notched, my favorite plate are the fajitas… I mean Yum! Burritos and quesadillas are sooo good too, chips and salsa, one just have to try it to fall in love with the place and as long as they’re cooking I am here!

I think the servers name was Omero but I'm not sure. He was absolutely perfect. Took excellent care of myself and my girlfriend! Top notch! Plenty of chips and salsa with seemingly unlimited refills. We had the combination fajitas for two and it was well worth the price corn tortillas were the bomb!

A pretty modest looking place with fantastic meals and attentive servers and staff! Perfectly seasoned Mexican Rice and Refried Beans, I mean maybe the best I've ever eaten, and a very good portion size of their Shredded Chicken Chimichanga, not too big or small. I don't care for thick chips, which they serve here, but they simple Salsa is super flavorful and just the right mild heat. I ordered a side of Pico de Gallo and it was also very flavorful, really tasty.

Food has a different flavor from traditional Mexican food, tasted a lot cumin in the red sauce , which is odd. Service was okay they'll ask if you need anything but then walk away before you can answer. Atmosphere was very brightly lit with white LEDs also a little different from other Mexican restaurants, they are usually laid back and more dim relaxing vibes. Overall not bad experience just have had better.

If I could give 20 stars, I 100% would. I get sensory overload easily and the food was so good I was in my own little world. My partner got enchiladas, I got cornitas, and a half pitcher of margaritas. The price of the food is amazing, staff was wonderful, food came out super quick. We are now going home to hibernate 🖤

Tasty food and good service at a great price. But, what made it great: they had immediate space for 15 people for a graduation party, on the actual day of UA graduation. While all the T-Town restaurants had long wait times with parties competing for tables, this little Mexican gem had space with no wait (Touchdown, Ala...Bama!). Even got to watch the Bama @ Houston basketball game upset win on their many TVs. They even let us bring in our own graduation cake! Score!

This place is great. Great staff good food. Our family is always down for some tacos, and this place doesnt dissappoint. It has all the typical things one can expect from a mexican restaurant, but the food is prepared well and i feel like where they shine is with the staff. They have yet to let us down.
1 visit that stands out is when We had our toddler in there and he wanted to explore a bit, and a different server guided him around for a little while, with the assistance of his mother.
If your looking for a good atmosphere with great tacos I recommend.

Have you been to an Applebee's? You know how loud that can be right? Well, this place is in an old Applebee's. The reason people get drunk and want to fight at an Applebee's is because they get overstimulated. The food was mediocre at best. Good luck.

So this has been one of the more difficult restaurant reviews I've done because I feel like some aspects of the meal were REALLY good, while other aspects were truly terrible.

To start, the service wasn't great at first. It took them almost 15 minutes just to come ask what I wanted to drink. It's worth mentioning that the restaurant was DEAD at this point because it was game day and nobody was there. Afterwards, the service seemed to get a little better, so I'm chalking this one up to just poor communication and trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The chips were the stalest chips I've ever had in my life. Like, think of a bag of Tostitos that have been left open for a few days, and that's about the right consistency. The Chili Pablano I got was also a little cold, which I don't understand because the plate was still pretty hot. It wasn't all bad though. I forgot to substitute a second helping of rice for the refried beans, but I decided to try them and they were actually really good. Both the rice and refried beans were probably some of the best I've had at ANY Mexican restaurant. It's also worth noting that the shrimp in the shrimp enchilada was perfectly cooked, and I feel like they deserve serious credit for that because it feels like very few restaurants get that correct.

All in all, I feel like it wasn't the best experience, but the food was good enough that I'll likely come back one or two more times to give them another shot... just maybe not on game day when they're paying more attention to the TV's than the customers 😅.

My 2 year old asks specifically to eat here at least once a week. This is our family spot. Here is why... The servers are all kind. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Ruben is basically my son's uncle at this point. The food is always delicious with great variety, at an agreeable price. Cleanliness! Never had a sticky table, floors are always clean as well as the bathrooms. Speedy service. Usually about 5 minutes after your order, the food is in front of you. I can't say enough good things about El Gran Patron.

Well my second time eating here they unfortunately got the to go order wrong! Yes, I should've checked before I got home 25 miles away,but when I called back and told the lady she gonna say she sorry but didn't try to make it right! If I pay for extra items I want ALL of it! Nobody just wanna pay for something and not receive it that's why it was ordered. You suppose to make it right not say u don't wanna do anything about it!! That's business and keeping a good name!! The servers are always very nice. The food is always good. I wish there were less loud, college-age kids. A tiny bit pricey, although I did get a lot. However I was a little disappointed that they were out of Trés Leches Cheese Cake, after seeing a print out about it on the table.

This place looked promising from the reviews, so I placed togo order over the phone, the staff was very friendly upon entering however when I took a sip of my sprite there was absolutley no carbination to it, tasted like pure syrup, however that was not a deal breaker becuase every restaurant runs out of carbination, or syrup, they just forgot to change it. The food itself was meh.... I order the enchiladas de mole, the sauce itself was lacking in richness and flavor tasted watered down and bland, the chicken tasted old and bland definently needed to be marinaded in something everything seemed dull and lack luster as far as flavor profile is concerned will not be going back again, I would consider cooking your own mexican food at home, or going down the street to La Bamba Mexican Restaurant food at La Bamba is definently better.

I had the Lunch Enchiladas Verdes. Good choice, with two chicken Enchiladas, rice and refried beans. Well worth the low price of 6.75. My table neighbors had margaritas that looked delicious. They drank them all!
Overall it's a clean restaurant with friendly service. I thought about giving 4 stars but went with 5 instead. Although nothing was amazing, my server checked on me several times and kept my water and salsa full. Since I found no flaws, I went with 5.
