Excellent food with generous portions. My wife enjoyed the medium (!) Miami Vice margarita from the many flavors. Good selection of Mexican beer too. Definitely going back!

First time visiting here. So far this is one of the better Mexican food places we have eaten at. We like a meaty/thick flavorful salsa. Not the tomato purée most restaurants around here serve. I got the beef quesadillas special. It’s was wonderful. My wife got 2 beef tacos and said those were the best she has had since she got to the area. My son got the grilled chicken torta. He said that was one of the best Mexican type sandwiches he has had, ever. Cheese dip was a bit on the thin side, but very good. With 3 drinks, we ate here for around $40. That’s a good deal. Candy was the staff member we interacted with. She was very friendly and very helpful. Sorry no pictures of the food. We chowed down. Planning to be back here very soon.

Delish chicken tacos ! However they need to be more handicap accessible because I have a friend who wants to eat here and cannot.
The salsa was ok, bean dip was more like queso with some beans in it

I got nachos from here and it was just pure onions and green peppers. No meat, no chips. At most got 5-6 pieces of chips. Not worth 13$-14$ i payed.

We have eaten here twice and ordered different dishes each time. I am TexMex and this food is sooooo good like home! I can attest for the street tacos, grilled chicken Torta and the chicken quesadillas. It’s seems their main complaints are for the nachos.

The tacos are good, the prices are reasonable. I've been twice.
Service is not as fast as you might expect for the parking available and the set up (with "Veloz" in the name, it should be faster). Even calling ahead did not work to make things happen fast. Their Taco Tuesday is only chicken and ground beef, so if you want carnitas, asada or anything else, get ready to pay more.

We really like to try hole in the wall places so we let this place up.
Thought it was going to be good. The food was bland and had very little taste.
My nachos were okay but everyone else's food was not so good.
The staff just seemed like they didn't really care and the product reflects this.
Sad really wanted a local mom and pop place to be good.

Best Tacos I've found in Auburn/Opelika. Every other place seems to hope that after enough margaritas you won't notice the food, Veloz focuses on food, and you can still get a margarita. I'm partial to the beef tongue tacos if you are looking for a suggestion.

Doesn't look like a winner from the outside but don't let that fool you. For one thing they have a good set up for togo orders as one door walks right up to the desk. The food is really good. Special,which is something I don't usually say about Mexican food. This is definitely worth a try. Located off the main drag a little. From my house it is an easy go using back roads only. It is close enough to the Historic section of Opelika or to the town center to make it a contender if you are in that area for fun. Also it looked like there was a backdoor to outside seating. That would be nice in this rather quiet area.

The food wasn't awful but is not as advertised. There were keys missing ingredients to both of the dishes we ordered. Also, you have to clear your own dishes from the table so take that into account when tipping at the register.

Food items here are a little more expensive than it seems they should be, but it is very tasty and they have lots of yummy meat options for tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and chimichangas.

Edit: updating my review to reflect the downturn of this place. The prices have been inching up and up over the past year with food quality going down. Example - the cheese dip is mostly water nowadays. No flavor to it and very thin/watery. It doesn’t even solidify when you refrigerate it like normal cheese dip would. I stopped coming after getting cheese-colored water dip on 4 different occasions at different times of day each time.
The chips are still the same at least. :/

This place has the best cheese dip, salsa, and chips in the area, imho. My favorite dish to get here is the bean burrito supreme. I love their rice and beans.

Took forever for an order to be ready that I calledcin 2.5 hrs before. Then when I received order they had to refund berthed had no guacamole. They only gave 1 small bag of chips for salsa and cheese dip which both are to come with chips.

Delicious food! I drive by like 4 other Mexican restaurants to get here and it's worth it. I usually get it delivered (DoorDash) so I can't speak to dine-in, but the food is (chefs kiss) worth whatever you pay for it.

Could be a top taco spot in the county if they had better service/quality. I go there in person I feel unwanted and get attitude. I order 4 carnitas tacos online I get 4 onion and cilantro tacos with little to no meat. You don’t have to have CFA type service but c’mon give me something.

What a gym! These folks bought a little shack of a building and have really turned it into something lovely. Don't expect to get your food quickly, but this is the Taco Tuesday spot.
Don't sell yourself short on the other menu items, either. The paella is fantastic.

My husband went there today after I called multiple times to place an order an didn’t get an answer. We live 2 minutes from the restaurant and no one was there when he arrived. He placed the exact same order that we get every time, but my order was wrong toast. I have two half quesadillas with no lettuce or anything. It looks….blah! I can’t believe we paid for this. When he walked up to the counter, the employee just stared at him. She didn’t greet him or anything, and their score is now an 89. This is far from the service we’re use to getting there. I hate it because it was one of my favorite restaurants, and the young Hispanic girl who worked the register was always polite.

It’s very sad that very good authentic food is presented with horrible customer service. First I come here a lot which means I love the food . It reminds me of the comfort food I’m used to from Arizona …it never fails most of the time I go in here the order taker whom is lady with glasses and the beauty mark is super unprofessional. When my order is done My order will literally sit to be passed out for five or more mins even though im sitting inside the restaurant.. This also happened today which prompted me to write this review … I noticed the cook out orders out to be passed out and of course I waited and waited went up to the front counter and she was in a group just talking didn’t even ask me what I was waiting for went right to my order put it in a bag and put it on the counter . No sorry about that or anything. … IM GOING TO ADD THIS AGAIN . This place has very good authentic comfort food!! But this one bad apple kills the experience!!!

If you don’t want business from everyone just say that and I’d be happy to shop other places .

I'm from Arizona, so moving to Alabama, I was worried that it would be tough to find authentic Mexican food. I'm happy to say that El Taco Veloz is the real deal. Everything I've tried is delicious, but the carnitas al pastor is especially amazing!

Had to come back and update my experience. The last two times I've been, I was given the wrong thing. It sort of seems intentional at this point. Don't order Shrimp chalupas. You will get only chicken. Chicken must be land shrimp and I didn't know it.

Food was just OK. Nothing special. Wait time was ridiculous. Did not tell us they were running long wait times when we ordered. Had to wait a little over 30 mins. The people next to us had waited an hour. When asked about where our order was the cashier had a smirk on her face and was not very polite or seemed concerned. It will be a long minute if I ever go back.

We read the reviews before we visited and we were not disappointed. Fantastic food with very reasonable prices. The steak tacos with soft flour tortillas were excellent but the best thing we tried was the Don Betos Queso. It may be the best we've ever had. The only thing that didn't impress was the salsa. Unfortunately it was bland and non-spicy but everything else made up for it. We can't wait to go back! 💯👍

A Great place to stop and grab some Mexican food. I stop almost every Tuesday because its TACO TUESDAY!! Now I will say this....they recently went up on price and for some reason they are VERY stingy with the salsa. I tried to reason with them that I just spent $23 dollars on food and they give me one tiny container of salsa. I laughed and asked for more, but she said I would have to pay for it. I then looked over at a table where a couple just left leaving a whole bowl of salsa barely touched. They better rethink things or they will lose customers

Food, when you get what you actually order, is very good. Service, when they can understand what you want, is very good. Overall its hit or miss, but when its good it is very good. Upgraded from previous 1-star review after a couple of purchases that included what I'd ordered.

The food is great half the time but the staff is unbearably rude ALL the time. Also DO NOT go on taco Tuesday. Unless you want to wait 45 minutes for 2 tacos and have them yell at you when its not right. Honestly its not worth going at all.

Used to like this place.... last couple times we have ate hear the food has not been as good. Went there tonight to get queso was a 16 oz (medium) for almost 14 dollars then they have the audacity to charge extra for a 2nd back of chips and have an attitude about it. They will never got another dollar from me.

Absolutely loveeeeee this family owned restaurant. Definitely a hidden jewel in the city. I found myself eating here everyday. Yep it’s that good. Carne asada was delicious. I’d pay cash unless you don’t mind your order costing a buck price two more.

The shredded chicken taco was delicious as well as the steak quesadilla. The beef taco was a little odd and almost had a hint of scorched pan flavor? Prices are great and the seating area is comfortable. The girl working wasn't overly friendly but the food was quick and tasty. Forgot to buy some salsa but will try it next time for sure.

Delicious food! Shredded chicken tacos with onions and cilantro (on corn tortillas) are my favorite. Also, none of the food is greasy, and if you get cheese they use it sparingly. Tastes great and is very healthy compared to any other mexican place I've eaten. Go already!

They are EXTREMELY understaffed and lacking in basic restaurant owner/customer skills. We waited over an hour for our $40 worth of food and had to repeat our order 4-5 times to the girl with long blue nails working at the window where orders are placed.When I asked how we would be compensated, I was told that her “positive attitude” would suffice. (!) There were numerous other customers there who also had been waiting for close to an hour for their food and who were very frustrated.

The food may have been good — once we eventually got it — but we were too aggravated to even enjoy it.
