Cozumel | Grill & Mexican Restaurant

We usually come here with our hockey group and indulge in their special frozen margaritas. However, after 2 years, the margs started giving me gut rot or a migraine the next day, you pick. Sometimes both.

Lately, I’ve been coming here with my kids for lunch and Diet Coke instead of booze. Today was scrumptious! I had a beef burrito, the most delicious tamale of all times, rice and beans. My sons had a kids’ cheese quesadilla meal, and a hamburger with fries meal. I snuck two bites of his burger and it tasted like a grilled cheese with a patty inside. I’m definitely getting an adult size burger next time!

We had a very attentive server too, and since we are regulars, the other staff smiled at us and were nice.

Try this place at lunch and don’t get the ketamine margaritas!! Even if you just drink two small frozen ones, your head will spin like Regan from the Exorcist, you will have a splitting headache the next day, or you will be on the toilet long enough to finish War and Peace from start to the end.

Be sure to try the tamales!

I’ve never been here before but I guarantee a return. Ordered chicken fajitas & it was amazing. Ate every single bite. Husband ordered shrimp fajitas & although he is still eating while I’m typing, he says it’s amazing aswell. I’d give this place 10 stars if I could .

The food was actually pretty good. However, when the server asks “are you sure??” when you order the fishbowl margarita, you should probably take that as a sign. When I say this was the worst margarita of my life, 1) I mean it, and 2) I’ve had many, many margaritas from many, many restaurants. I have to imagine the recipe for this noxious concoction sounds something like “10 parts witch hazel, 1 part Great Value window cleaner, 1 part lime green food coloring”. Out of sheer stubbornness because I paid $20 for the toxic slushee, I finished the entire drink. I’m pretty sure I can now smell sounds and hear light. I was sick for two days. I may never be the same.

The food is great. The salsa is thick and spicy and the portions are very generous. The food is worth the visit. This is an odd review to make for this restaurant. We were heading south from Birmingham after a long visit at the hospital and chose this over many other Mexican places based on reviews.
Some of what they did was fantastic and yet a couple things were on the bottom end of service.
We got to the restaurant at 2:50 pm, and spent a while looking through the very large menu. Because it took a while to see what we wanted to get, we did not place the order until a couple minutes after 3:00 p.m. when I asked about getting the lunch menu deals, that was now declined. And it wasn't a very friendly way of doing so.
I ordered the steak burrito meal and my wife got another meal to go. When we got in our vehicles and started to check out the food, I noticed after eating some of the rice and beans and vegetables already that my burrito was ground beef and not steak. That's a massive difference if you look at what you wanted to eat in addition to the price it should have been. That being said, the amount of beef that they put in the burrito was massive and tasted very good. My wife's meal was also very good and had a lot of food in the to-go container. The chips and salsa are also very good. So that's why the review grade is right in the middle. I believe all the food quality here is probably on the high end of Mexican restaurant quality but we just happened to experience what seemed to be staff member that wasn't very helpful or friendly and I paid for something and receive something incorrect of less quality. I would suggest if you go here, to order it to eat at the restaurant in case they make an error on the order.

I couldn't have dinner, they had a Christmas party, which is fine, but they were rude to me ask me to live (their party) looks more like a funeral everybody looks mad so i come next door to el comal which it was very good. I highly recommend El comal great service. Great food

The food is great. The salsa is thick and spicy and the portions are very generous. The food is worth the visit. I have been several times and had different items from the menu and have not gone wrong yet. I've been there for lunch, late lunch, dinner and even a later dinner recently and each time the food is very very good. The service is hit or miss, the food is always a homerun.

Been craving Mexican food this was the closest place to go the food was good and fresh I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was good the guacamole was not made fresh tho and the service wasn’t bad any ways I woke up at 6am the next day and threw up every where also had a fever and body ache it was definitely food poisoning my mom was also sick but not throwing up bc she didn’t really eat much any way never going back don’t recommend at all.

Be careful when ordering to go. They charged me more than the price on the menu. When I ansked she pretended not to understand Asked for no beans and had mostly beans. The rice was greasy. Quesadilla was so burned. Will never go back

I had dinner here with my family today. I got 2 cheese enchiladas and one taco and a small side of guacamole. The enchiladas were basically glued to the plate as if they were heated up in a microwave, very flat with no flavor. The taco was average. The guacamole was tasteless as well.

This was our first time here and we were not disappointed!!! Great service, we ordered and received our food pretty quickly. Our waiter was fantastic and very friendly, our food was delicious! I definitely recommend the Chicken chimichanga and a steak and chicken fajita. The queso dip and salsa were really good as well. Over all we were very impressed and really enjoyed ourselves!

I would love to give more stars. The staff are nice enough and efficient. No go on the guacamole 👎, just not on par. Had a quesadilla with rice and beans. Chicken was tasty and moist but was chunked and not shredded. My niece didn't touch the taco salad, guacamole on top and beef juices running out the bottom. I know it's the style, but maybe it's time for an update or some tlc ❤️. Nephew's burrito supreme was good. I'll be back again, much love!

I do not smoke cigarettes and my food tasted like someone smokes in the kitchen, maybe after hours and they can do whatever they like in their restaurant but I’m sensitive to the smell and taste and I could not eat my food that I spent $18 on. It’s unfortunate, I won’t be back.

I have been coming here forever, and now I come with my in-laws, who have been coming forever, and it’s always been a nice place to eat. The food is yummy and fast. The atmosphere is very festive! And, barring a few exceptions, staff is always super sweet. I don’t partake, but I’m told the margaritas are wonderful and a great price.

Customer service is terrible. Our waiter was rude and inattentive. We ordered chicken nachos as an appetizer. They were really good. I ordered chimichangas as a main dish. It was horrible. The beef tasted like something out of a freezer, and the chicken was overcooked. The rice tasted like nothing.

So many of our friends absolutely love this place but my wife and I believe there are better Mexican restaurants in the area. We dine here to be with our friends because they love it. But typically, we get our Mexican elsewhere.

We ordered tacos and enchiladas al la carte to go. Based on the prices posted on their site my total should have been about $24. However I was charged $31. Other than this my experience was good. Food taste great. It's my go to place to get Mexican food.

ZERO stars!! I have been a long time customer of Cozumel Grill, have been going there since they opened the doors, but today they lost my business for good. I feel I was overcharged & when I brought it to the managers attention he told me there were no substitutions period & he would not even discuss $2 with me (his exact words). I was extremely insulted & he told me he did not care (his exact words). I told him I would never be back & he told me he did not care (his exact words). He said those words to me. I was not being ugly even tho he deserved it after the way he treated me but he took it on himself to let me know how little he cared about my business. We as consumers need to stop supporting businesses who do not care about us. They do not deserve to be in business. We need to as a group start supporting the businesses that treat us like they want our business & put businesses run by rude people like this man out of business. I implore all to stop going to this restaurant. Truth be told their food has gone down hill over the past few years anyway. Let's support businesses who want our money, who treat us with respect. Cozumel Grill is not a restaurant worthy of our business.

We experienced great food and attentive service last night at Cozumel/Grill. We were in town for the baseball tournament and were lucky to find such a great place for dinner. Be sure to try the Sangria!

Our favorite Mexican restaurant. Great food, great prices. We have occasionally gone to other Mexican restaurants and the whole time we are there we are comparing it to Cozumel and wondering why we didn't just go to Cozumel instead. It's always a quick in and out, never waiting too long for food, which is great when you have hungry kiddos (and hangry adults, let's be honest here). If you're thinking about it, just go and enjoy the delicious food!

A really fun place! I have been told by my daughter how much they enjoy this quaint restaurant. It's on the other side of town where I frequent so I was not familiar with it. We had the occasion to go aftera grandson's event and really had a ball with family and friends!

I loved the atmosphere and the service was excellent! The did was tasty and well prepared.

I will make it a point to go again when possible and I hope it is soon!

Menu is old on this Google listing. I thought I was buying nachos for $8 and it was $18.
Disappointing people can’t update or give me a total before I arrive at the restaurant. I don’t mind paying more if I know I’m going to. $10 is a big difference.

No reservations, had party of six, got seated in ten minutes! (Big crowd there, too at 7pm).
Waiter took drink order, back in about three minutes. Took food order, food started arriving at table about ten minutes later!!
My last trip to BK, MCD, other "fast food" places were LONGER WAIT!
very reasonable prices, friendly, quick staff. Definitely will be one of my top eating places!!!

Food is good here. Tonight we just wanted to have some of their yummy queso dip and homemade salsa. It was really good as usual. Something to note is that they only accept cash for tips for the waitstaff. This is a recent change and I'm not sure if they'll really prevent you from adding a tip to your credit or debit card , as I happened to have cash. But this might keep me from deciding to grab a bite here if I don't happen to have cash in my pocket.

Oh my word. This is the best Mexican restaurant ever. It’s what made me love Mexican food. Great prices. Great food. Great people. My kids were rolled into Cozumel when they were born just like they were church. We celebrate their birthdays every year there too. We love Rosie, her sister, Daniel and the staff.

Found this great place from a Google search. Here in Hoover for baseball tournament and loved it! Friendly staff, super fast service, great food. By fast service, I mean we were only halfway through our queso and our fajitas, 2 tacos and a quesadilla were out - under 10 minutes.
Don’t let the location put you off - it’s in a strip mall away from all the chain restaurants but seriously, go inside! It’s like one of those restaurants that all the locals know about but tourists don’t give it a chance.
Our great waiter, Hector, told us they’ve been in business for like 20 years and there is good reason. Go here!!!

Very nice restaurant. Friendly staff. Food was good. Fried ice cream was excellent. I will be going again soon.

The service and food were mediocre. I felt like we were treated less than the other customers. I’m not sure if it was because of the color of our skin, which is not much darker than some of the workers, or they have a mindset that we weren’t going to tip. The first waiter came around the corner, looked at me then turnaround. I guess he went to get the waitress to help us. She brought the appetizer and beverages and took our order. She didn’t come back until it was time for the check. So no refill or courtesy check ins to see if we needed anything. A guy brought our food. It was lukewarm. We sat there for about 10 minutes before the waitress came back to ask if we wanted to-go boxes and cleaned off some of the plates. Another guy brought the ticket. The girl at the register was not pleasant to say it nicely. She didn’t speak or ask how it was. Then she snatched my card out of my had. And no, she didn’t say thank you. Tip: Treat all customers with the same respect and generosity. We are the reason you still have a job.
Needless to say, my little chocolate butt will not be returning.

Amazing service 100000% of the time, never had a bad experience, great to bring big family groups, family goes there without me now. Food drinks service everything amazing every time

Good chips and salsa but I ordered bean dip for chips and it’s covered in thick layer of cheese. Please update menu to state layered cheese/bean dip. Not everyone can or wants to eat cheese.

Service was good.

Veggie wrap without cheese was dripping grease.

Chipotle offers better quality less greasy options.
