The food & atmosphere was both great! The only thing I found odd was tipping at the time of order placement. I didn't have a server, but tips are expected. Why? I'm not tipped for doing my job at work lol. Wish this culture would go away. My mom was a server, so I can't help but tip people even when I think it's ridiculous. Still would return to this place 100%!!! Just wish America did away with this "tip for everything" culture, and companies simply paid their employees a fair wage.

First time visiting and really enjoyed it!
I had the Barbacoa and the meat was tender and the sauce was excellent!

There were two young men at the door and helping guests in the restaurant who were amazing! The young lady at the register was so kind and nice. I am not good with names but all of them were amazing and kept asking if we needed anything. I will recommend and be back myself!

The Trussville location is my family’s favorite. Specifically my daughter’s. We go often. And sometimes Mommy doesn’t want to eat the same thing. On a recent visit the always friendly Chloe made a suggestion from the menu that I didn’t know existed. The build your own salad! It’s over! I have since ordered the salad for myself and others almost a dozen times in 2 weeks. 😳 But its so clutch. Moral of the story, the menu always has more to offer. Especially when staff makes suggestions. *did I mention I’m sitting in Taco Mama eating the salad right now?* 😝

My first time at Taco Mama and I found a great atmosphere but was a little disappointed in the taste factor. I had the Classico Beef taco basket which included two tacos, chips, salsa, fountain drink and a side (I chose black beans). They gave a very large serving of chips and I went through to small salsa containers and found it to be rather unique and tasty. I think I detected a slight taste of apple or some fruit. The black beans also had a good and different taste to me. The only problem I had was with the tacos which I had to sprinkle with plenty of hot sauce to detect any taste!!!! Im not sure if the beef was old, dried out or what the problem was but I could not detect any beef taste or flavor which made the tacos too bland for me Other than the ground beef, the tacos were filled with shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and sour cream. I would certainly go back and recommend Taco Mama because I feel my "tasteless" experience was just a one time fluke. The staff were very friendly and you have a choice of eating in or outside at one of several tables. Very laid back atmosphere like you might find at the beach or in Mexico.

I just have to give a shout out to Zach. A friend of mine got some bad news on our way to dinner tonight. It was extremely upsetting and unexpected. She mentioned to Zach what was going on and long story short he comp’ed our meal in ways we can’t explain. On top of that, as we were leaving he flagged us in the parking lot and gave us vouchers for our next meal. This is the definition of going above and beyond for your customers and we cannot explain how grateful we are for that. He is a one of a kind employee and a one of a kind person!

We moved to Birmingham 6 years ago and was shocked at how bad customer service was across the board at restaurants. Was my first time visiting the Trussville location. The staff was very friendly and made really great recommendations when I asked. We got the cheesy beef taco basket, a steak burrito bowl, and a steak quesadilla. The food was great, the staff was great, and the whole atmosphere was really vibrant!

Food was great and restaurant immaculately clean. Taco Mama in other locations has generally been a positive experience , but the Trusville location definitely stands out as a cut above the rest!

My husband and I recently tried this place out for the first time and it was such a good experience! The food was fantastic and the customer service was so friendly. We weren't sure what to order and one of the employees made some really helpful suggestions. I believe he said his name was Casey. He was great! I ended up choosing the cheesy beef and my husband got one of their burrito bowls. The quality of everything was really fresh. The salsa was also SO good. Definitely will be going back to the Trussville location!

First- timer at Taco Mama's, and what an awesome place to eat. I got the Fat Boy Steal Bowl, and WOW! They are a little bit too pricy, but the food is great. They are not your average Tex-Mex restaurant, they kick it up to the next level. Great Job! If you don't want loud music where you can't hear the person next to you, then you'll have to turn your hearing aid down, cause it is very loud in there. I guess that's why most folks eat outside so they can hear someone talking. But it's still an awesome restaurant.

This taco mama is always on point the build your own burrito baby is the DELICIOUS!!!! Everyone is always so nice and friendly!! You can also call ahead, pay for it over the phone, and they literally have it waiting on you at the door!! And the drinks are strong and good!! Love this place 🫶🏽

We ate at Taco Mama in Trussville a couple of weeks ago. Everyone we came in contact with who works there is so nice and friendly. After you order at the counter, they bring your food to you and check back later to see if you need anything. Also, the food is delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Margaritas are beyond top shelf, especially the spicy margaritas!

The food is a 50/50 hard-mid gamble. Some items are great, and the others are below Taco Bell. Go to Taco Mama with a bar to drink, don't go to eat--you're playing Russian Roulette with the food. The one in Tuscaloosa is great because of its location; you can get a taaty pitcher before a night out. For the other loacations; thanks for luring me in with a margarita and trapping me with an over-cooked steak bean-a-rito with a signature Soylent Green flavor.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Trussville area. We love the food and the employees - always happy, helpful, and friendly (Becky's our favorite - she makes a mean Jose Jalapeno!). Have never had a bad meal, and the last visit we noticed they have even increased the size of their queso cup. Never hear a complaint there!

The manager lies! I called at 11:00 AM on Valentine's Day to see if I could set up balloons and flowers on the table while I had my son and mother take an Uber to meet me there. I explained it would take them less than 5 minutes to get there, since my mom's house is right down the road. He told me it wasn't a problem, but tables would be first come, first serve. I packed my car up with two sets of balloon bouquets and flower arrangements, cheescake, chocolate-covered strawberries, cards, and presents. Once I pulled up to Taco Mama, I scheduled an Uber, and stood in line for the next available table. Then, I was told they were busy, so I couldn't do it. Really??? You KNEW it was Valentine's Day and that you'd be busy, which is why I called to ask if it would be okay AHEAD of time! Instead, I had to take all the balloons and everything home, pay for an Uber that I never even got to use, and ruin my Valentine's Day plans with my family due to a LYING manager! What terrible customer service! Don't tell a customer you're going to honor something and not do what you said. If you plan on having any type of celebration or get-together at Taco Mama, it might be best to go somewhere else since they turn you away once you get there.

This is my favorite Taco Mama! The food is always amazing and the staff is always friendly. I’ve been going here for a while and they have kept the same friendly faces. This was the first Taco Mama I went to that greated me at the door and if they’re busy, they will bring you a drink while you wait in line.

First and last time there. Menu is extremely confusing, however they do have helpful employees willing to explain it. I had two tacos, mac n cheese, and chips/ salsa come with each meal. 75%-80% of my food was the chips/salsa, the Mac n cheese was a portion of about 3 ounces and the two tacos were very small and cold. I paid way too much for basically a bag of tortilla chips and two small tacos.

I always love eating at Taco Mama, it’s one of my favorite restaurants. But yesterday was a totally different experience as Mia was an absolute GEM! She was so sweet and so helpful, made a point to come to our table multiple times to check in on us just because. She offered us refills, made sure we have everything we needed. That doesn’t usually happen so I was kind of surprised, but it definitely deserves to be acknowledged! Her bubbly personality and care for the customers was top notch. I’m hoping she will be there every time we go back!

The folks in the restaurant were friendly, helpful, and very attentive. Other than that we weren’t impressed. This is a place where you order at the counter, right after you walk in. If you are a new customer, like my wife and I were, you have to check the menus very quickly and decide what you want to eat on the spot. One of the employees very helpful and explaining how the menu worked. You could build your own tacos, burritos, etc. but this being out first time we ordered complete menus items. (If you plan to go to this restaurant, I suggest you look at the menu items on the Internet at home before going.

The first thing you have to know is that this is not a traditional Mexican restaurant, or at least what we Americans have come to expect of a traditional Mexican restaurant. My wife says it’s more of a taco bar. Which is fine, if done correctly. So the ingredients are not always traditional.

My wife ordered the THE SIZZLER (Tacos with grilled steak tenderloin, grilled onions, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, red chile butter sauce, queso fresco ) with a side of black beans. I ordered the JUSTICE IS SERVED (Tocos with flounder (grilled or fried) or grilled shrimp with ancho chile slaw, avocado, tomatoes, roasted poblano tartar.). I chose the shrimp with a side of guacamole. We both chose the flour tortillas for our tacos. Sounds good, huh?

My first problem was that there were only two, maybe three medium sized shrimp on each of my two extra small tortillas. My wife said that she only had three small pieces of beef on each of her tortillas. The resulting tocos were good, but they were skimpy of their main ingredients. I am guacamole lover, but my Toco Mama guacamole side was not to my taste. It seemed to be heavy on the lime juice and something else I couldn’t place. Neither of us liked my wife’s side of black beans. On the other hand, the generous amount of chips were thin, crispy and very good. You can also refill your soft drinks as often as you would like.

I can best describe that the decor as Mexican funky and industrial. The industrial part due to two tall metal shelves parked against the front wall that seemed to serve no other useful purpose except a storage spot for bundles of paper napkins on the top shelves.

This place has a lot of good reviews, so maybe it just doesn’t fit our tastes somehow, but it earned my lowest rating of ant restaurant so far and I don’t think we will be back.

What a find! Our family travels through the area a few times per year. We're so happy to find Taco Mama and will make this a regular stop in the future. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious and tasted so fresh! Our order was delivered quickly, and staff checked in on us regularly. The queso is delicious, and the quesidillas are some of the best we've tasted (the steak and chicken were so flavorful). At $20+ per person for lunch, the price may seem a little high, but it's completely worth the splurge, and the portions are very filling. We'll definitely visit Taco Mama when we're in town again.

My daughter and family who ate here almost weekly, was asked to get up with kids, to allow those in line to have seating, while her husband was ordering food. This was their way of implementing the new procedure. No posted signs at the entrance or in the restaurant. We thoroughly understand the purpose of the procedure, but this was not the way to implement it, publicly by waiting for people to sit, and tell them they have to get up. Several others experienced the same post-procedure treatment. We live next door, and we will all never patronize this location again with family, friends, or out of town guests. We have seen signs posted at other restaurants across the US and thoroughly understand and can abide the procedures, but to be asked to get up in retrospect when there is nothing to indicate the procedure is rude, embarrassing, and ridiculous.

Our first experience was so good, we went back the very next week. Lol I can't say enough on how outstanding and friendly this staff is. They are all just genuinely friendly and eager to help. The food is also great and comes out super fast. Grab the Ahi Tuna tacos if they gave them. We came two Saturdays in a row to grab a couple of beers, food, and catch some college football. As long as this place stays like this, we'll be regulars. I hope whoever manages or owns this place thanks their staff because they make this place as good as it is.

I got soft tacos and the tortillas weren't even heated...came straight out of the bag. The ground beef filling was extremely salty, which is saying a lot for me as I use quite a bit on my food. The young ladies who greeted me and at the counter were very nice and professional. This restaurant wouldn't make it in an area with good Mexican food.

Very excited to come in lady at the front "MIA". was very nice and pleasant. Having never been here before she went through the taco mama process to ordering with me. When I got my fish nachos my fish looked like it was overcooked . Crispy and dark. The nachos had good flavor and there were a lot of them lots of cheese.good flavor.

Friendly staff and clean environment! The food was great and the staff went over and beyond to help a mother of three small kids get drinks and food set up at the table. Totally recommend!

The food was just meh. I had a chorizo burrito and it didn't taste authentic. My wife's bowl was also just ok and a friend who dined with us got a quesadilla which looked like something you could make at home. I expected better for a $70 bill. Despite the food, the place was packed. The highlight was the staff. Everyone was very good and friendly.

I should have made this review sooner, better late than never. *This review is for a June 2022 wedding.*
We had Taco Mama cater our wedding, honestly I am not too sure it was the Trussville location, but it is the location closest to me and I would be happy to provide an additional review if needed.
We were looking for something simple for our wedding. Everyone loves Tacos and a lot of our friends love Taco Mama. We had a great experience. No issues with the delivery, perfect timing. The food was great, we did the taco and nacho bar. As expected, everyone loved it.

Excellent experience. You can customize your tacos or burritos, or have one of their combination plates. Either way, you can't go wrong. Chorizo refried beans were killer.

Came for lunch and everything was great until my boyfriend bit into a hard piece of plastic that was in his burrito bowl, got the young ladies attention that was on the floor refilling drinks and busting tables, showed her, she went and told the manager, then told us he was remaking the order, we didn't want the order remade or money back. The least the manager could have done is speak with us or apologize. Shame on you for not making the effort in a business where customer service is a must.

Very funky atmosphere and always playing great music! I was really impressed with the service and how friendly the staff was. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting the good to be any better or worse than Moe’s or Barberito’s but it definitely blew both those places out of the water!

From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted and given a menu. Asked if we needed any help deciding or if we had any questions about the menu. The cashier was friendly. The food was served super fast. Food was fresh, the right temperature and the servous was great.

Painfully slow order process. 18 bucks for a taco basket and drink. Food is decent just not 18 dollars good.

We went on Sunday and did what we always do... I sat down with my 2 & 4 year old kids while my husband was in line to order.  A few minutes later they made my kids & I get up from our table and were told we couldn't sit until our food was ordered.  The line was to the door and the place isn't big enough to wait anywhere else inside, which meant we were going to have to wait outside, and it was starting to rain. I got up without saying anything (and on my way out another customer even stopped me just to say she thought that was ridiculous what they were doing) and I told my husband we were going to eat somewhere else. My husband asked another worker if he could speak to the staff member that asked me to get up, but the she was rude and said he couldn't talk to him.  We left immediately.  We understood it was busy but there definitely could have been a better way to handle the crowd than ask families to go wait in the rain. Especially with it being Father's Day. It's a shame we experienced this because we used to love eating here almost weekly and now I don't even want to support their business.

I had a fantastic dining experience here. Both the drinks & food were delicious!!! The Pomegranate Margarita with a Sugar Rim was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! The Shrimp & Steak Quesadilla and Build Your Own Grilled Fish Tacos were Divine!!!! Great time...Great Vibe!!
