This is some of the best salsa and tacos I've ever had right here in the heart of Tuscaloosa! I work right up the street, so I go everyday on my lunch break for the tacos and salsa! I'm hooked! The service is always fast and the customer service is unmatched! I love Loco Lupes real bad! ❤️ 1000/10

Quick to sit, long to get anyone to wait on us. Once someone opted to take our order, things went smoothly. Food was pretty good. The Torta de Birria was like a Mexican French Dip, but the dipping sauce... how best to describe it... was like what's left in a slow cooker after the meat simmered for 6 hours, or what normally drips from a soggy taco onto your wrist. Basically, grease. Not needed to enjoy the rest of the dish, which was great on its own. Overall, simple, good Mexican food with an extra dash of grease.

The food is good. However, almost everytime I go they leave something out. I ordered birria tacos and they left out the birria dipping sauce. I've ordered regular tacos and they didn't put cheese on the tacos. One day a meal comes with something and the next day they dont put it in the bag. They gave me a half full bag of chips and very small salsa for 2 meals. It's just the small irritating things that have happened on multiple occasions that upset me because I actually like their food.

BIRRIA TACOS 10,000,000,000/10! I am a Birria tacos connoisseur, and I can confidently say these are the best tacos in t town. Consomé is to die for the flavor is outrageous the beef is juicy and tender and the lime adds the perfect acidity. Just amazing. And the chips and salsa are so good!! I love loco lupes I wish I could be buried under this restaurant and have my soul reincarnated into one of their Birria tacos. I included a picture!!

As an average guy I was not impressed at all. The food was average or maybe a tad below. No lunch menu. I’ll not spend 21.80 there again and lunch or supper. Seems to be more of a bar that Mexican restaurant. We arrived at 11:20am and were the only ones there. That shoulda been my sign to leave.

My roommate and I were excited to try this place for the first time. The wait for 2 was 30 minutes so we figured we would eat at the bar and grab a drink. We immediately walk up to the bar where dirty plates were and asked the bartender if someone was sitting there. The bartender very rudely just nodded her head. My roommate and I grabbed another seat instead and shrugged it off. We continued to wait 10 minutes while she got on her phone, looked at the back of the bar, and made one drink for someone else. As a bartender myself I would never treat anyone like this and/or someone who I’d like to receive a tip from. We will not be back.

My wife told me not to go to these American Mexican spots lol I should've listened smh.. ordered 2 fish and 2 shrimp tacos but ended up with 3 shrimp tacos. Lady told me I ordered 2 tacos and they didn't have fish, i told her i ordered 2 of each (fish and shrimp), she then read the receipt saying i only ordered 2. me not having my phone to verify my order said it was cool to get 2 shrimp. They gave me 3 shrimp tacos probably because they were out of the fish. Got to my car to verify my order only to find out I in fact did order 4 tacos went back in for the other taco. Now I have 4 shrimp tacos and I only wanted 2. To make it worse, when ordering the shrimp tacos, it says they come with 4 shrimp but yep you guessed it, it was 3 shrimp per taco. Smh
By living on the west coast, I have different expectation of mexican food. The chimichunga is not what I expected. It fits in the palm of my hands, I must say I was not expecting it to be so small for 13 bucks. Was not a good experience and the food is OK. Definitely won't be getting Mexican food in Alabama anymore. 57 dollars and barley got anything. Socal is much different for a cheaper price. DONT GET THE CHIMICHUNGAS, you'll be very disappointed

Tried this place twice now and it’s pretty consistent. Friendly staff and the environment is nice nothing to crazy. The meat for the tacos and quesadillas is AMAZING! I’ve tried the birria beef and chicken and both did not disappoint. Now what’s really lackluster is the queso. VERY watery and not a lot of flavor at all. It was like that both times I went so I would skip the queso or anything with it because it doesn’t add much to your meal. But overall a pretty good Mexican restaurant and I would go back to try other things but it’s not my number one spot in ttown. ( Also an automatic gratuity is added to your bill! )

The food was not warm and the food was served at room temp. The chips served with the salsa and queso are paper thin. The corn tortillas are a bit rubbery and the chicken is chunky and not very flavorful. There is not much parking and the music was a little to loud to have a nice conversation with my date. The few positive things I have to say were that the service was nice, the restaurant was nicely decorated, and the salsa was great although the queso was too thin and watery.

Edit: If you have a multitude of complaints of food being served cold then you should take action instead of resorting to “see the manager”. At this point it is a problem that needs to be addressed and is bad business. Also these reviews are not a personal attack. If people complain about bland food it is because it is bland. The issue is the food, not the tastebuds.

Published a year ago

Review №78

There are much better options in town. Food was not warm and not flavorful. Queso and salsa were okay but the chips were not good at all. Street tacos needed flavor. Quesabirra needed more flavor. Corn salad was not dynamic in flavor. The food was all very one note and tasted too plain.

i have no clue, genuinely how this place can get by as a “mexican restaurant” this wasn’t even tex mex… the picture shown was the 17 dollars i spent on chicken and steak fajitas, where is the meat?? even with the small scraps i was given it was super chewy and the steak was not real steak, at all. also why did the meat only taste like taco seasoning..? the portions for the rice and beans was actually pitiful truly. also the service was not the best like it took so long to get the checks like i would not recommend again, maybe i ordered the meal that is affected by a store wide budget cut but it was genuinely $22.83 that i will never get back.

Good atmosphere, pleasant staff, nothing extraordinary. But there was something distinctly wrong with the refried beans. Everyone at my table agreed: they smelled very bad. The odor was strong and smelled somewhat like coffee. I don't know if these beans were suffering an identity crisis and trying to emulate their Colombian cousins, or if someone just dumped a cup of espresso into the pot of refried beans, but it was pretty gross.

Review №142

I had the pleasure of dining at Loco Lupe's in Tuscaloosa, AL, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a fantastic experience.

First off, I had the pleasure of being served by Trent, the bartender. Not only was he a friendly face, but he was also a local who had a wealth of knowledge about the city. He shared some fascinating historic anecdotes while mixing up the perfect margarita for me. Trent's recommendations truly added to the enjoyment of my visit to Tuscaloosa.

The owner of Loco Lupe's deserves a special shoutout. I was thoroughly impressed by his dedication and hard work. He was everywhere, from crafting drinks to running food orders and ensuring his team was performing at their best. It's clear that he takes pride in his establishment, and it shows in every aspect of the dining experience.

Location-wise, Loco Lupe's couldn't be better situated. Nestled in a brand-new area of town, it's conveniently close to some of the nicest hotels and boasts a beautiful waterfront view. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a meal or drinks while taking in the surroundings.

Speaking of drinks, the margarita I had was nothing short of excellent, and the shot of liquor I ordered was well priced. The menu offered a delicious variety of options, and I indulged in a quesadilla and enchilada. The salsa was incredibly tasty, and the green sauce added that extra zing to my meal.

In conclusion, Loco Lupe's is a hidden gem in Tuscaloosa that I wholeheartedly recommend. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this restaurant is a must-visit. The combination of friendly staff, fantastic drinks, delicious food, and a great location makes it a top-notch choice for any occasion. Don't miss out on the chance to experience the magic of Loco Lupe's for yourself!

The two owners have created a fantastic atmosphere, top notch food, AWESOME MARGARITAS, all at affordable prices.

This is the epitome of what hard working small business owners look like! Just ask them to tell you their story and you will be hooked from day one on that alone!

I’ve yet to be there and both gentlemen not working their tails off. Built the place with their own two hands.

They deserve unlimited support from our community and all of the successes that come from that!

I visited on 9/19/23 while in town for work. I hope I’m able to return again sometime soon! Peyton was my waitress and she was so friendly and efficient. The owner came around to speak and recommended the Birria tacos. Omg, they were so good!! Definitely some of the best tacos and margaritas I’ve ever had. They use fresh fruit and it makes a HUGE difference. I also ordered the chorizo dip. Everything was so good that I forgot to take pictures first. The only thing about my experience that gave me a slight pause was that there was a small dog inside the restaurant. However, he or she was very quiet and sweet. You hardly noticed. I highly recommend this place and have my fingers crossed that I’m able to return soon!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Loco Lupes, a fantastic Mexican restaurant. From the moment I walked in, the vibrant and cozy ambiance set the tone for an unforgettable experience.

The menu offered a delightful array of Mexican dishes, and I couldn’t resist starting with their homemade guacamole and salsa, which were bursting with fresh flavors. For my main course, I ordered the Quesobarria Tacos, and it was a true masterpiece. The combination of spices and ingredients created a symphony of flavors that danced on my taste buds.

What truly impressed me was the attentive and friendly staff. They provided excellent recommendations and ensured that my dining experience was top-notch. The margaritas were also exceptional and perfectly complemented the meal.

I can’t wait to return to Loco Lupes to explore more of their menu. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican cuisine served with a warm atmosphere and outstanding service, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. It’s a true gem in the world of Mexican dining.

We had the carnitas quesadilla and the tamales! Everything was outstanding from our front door experience to the dining experience. The tamales are homemade daily in house. If you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant with unbelievable food, made to order guacamole and fresh squeezed margaritas, this is your go to place!

My boyfriend and I got 3 quesabirria tacos- shredded chicken/shredded beef, one pastor street taco, street corn, refried beans, and Mexican rice. It was AMAZING. I have been looking for some yummy birria in Tuscaloosa and this new place has exceeded all of my expectations! The staff were very polite and the owners are nice as well! I will be coming back!
