Taco Mama - Tuscaloosa

First timer at Taco Mama this past Saturday evening and loved it!! Don’t let the line scare you - we were stopped not far in the door, but the line moves pretty fast!

Our table had a mixture of bowls and quesadillas and it was all great! The queso dip was FINE!! I do wish the chips were a bit thicker, but others at our table loved that the chips were thin. The margarita pitcher was spot on as well! Definitely new fans of Taco Mama!

Great food! Visited here 3 times in 3 days while visiting my daughter at the University of Alabama. I ordered Steak Tacos, Steak Quesadilla, Barbacoa Quesadilla. Food is fresh prepared with fresh ingredients. Definitely a must!

First time there and was met at the door bye couple of ladies who explained how you order and directed you along. The one who took order was great at explaining options on how to build your taco without you feeling rushed.
After order placed it didn't take long for them to get it out and it was very pleasent atmosphere. Thanks for the experience.

The food was SPECTACULAR! I got a cheese quesadilla and the people sitting with me got tacos we all said we would come back again! The lady at the front greeted us with respect and kindness and explained the menu thoroughly and made sure we understood! The lady at the register was very kind and respectful as well. The seating area was very clean. But some workers in the back were messing around on there phone. Overall it’s a great place to eat and great for college students.

I really do like Taco Mama but the prices are outrageous for the amount of food you get. The pictures is of the shrimp tacos my 13 year old ordered. Only three shrimp per taco is ridiculous. He ordered it w meat only but still… three shrimp?! And a box full of chips. The rest of our meals were similar. Very skimpy on the protein with all our meals but overloaded with chips. Service and atmosphere are always great and taste of the food is good. But if you looking for value don’t eat here. We paid about $15-$20 per meal and that doesn’t include drinks.
Edited on 8/10/24: We decided to give it another try this past weekend. Much, much better. Portion sizes were much more generous. Kudos.

The tacos have a measly amount of meat in them. The box is filled to the top with crushed chips. Honestly I hate to be that person but I get a lot more at taco bell for $6. The quality is similar, too. I won’t be coming here again. It’s overrated because of other students I suppose. But the vibe is great, it’s a beautiful place, and the staff are extremely nice.

This was my first time dining at this location. I loved how quickly the line moved. The cashier didn't mind asking a manager near for an answer to my question. Much respect for that. My nachos were less than $15. Total I spent under $20. Don't forget to tip. The nachos were big enough for 2-4 people I was shocked. I ordered all my toppings fresh and they were just that, fresh. The same cashier came out to see if i needed anything just in time to refill my soda water and lime. Then in the end I was greeted by another manager(I'm assuming) who prebussed my table and he was very pleasant. Great location, great food, great service. I'm looking forward to returning.

We ordered a large takeout order and the food was excellent. We were blown away with the portions and quality of food. We were celebrating a birthday and everyone raved about the queso, taco meat, chips and fixings. Love love this place!

We visited Taco Mama on a very busy Friday before a football game. The food was all very good. But be prepared, the line to order was probably an hour long. They had one cash register going. It was good that they served drinks to the line. There was plenty of indoor and patio seating. And we were amazed that the food came out very quickly. we were ready to eat our hats. But let’s be clear, Taco Mama is a Tuscaloosa institution for a reason. It’s good, and we will return.

I had an awesome meal at Taco Mama! The food was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The menu offers great variety, and every dish I tried was delicious. The food is heavenly and it's great portions. Made to order whatever you want and however you want it. Good drinks 10/10 food. They also have barbacoa. The service is great the people are nice, helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is unusual as the music is comparable to a fever dream or drunk music all day long but it's a clean good place.

I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to bring to your attention a situation that has been affecting my experience at your establishment. Recently, I’ve noticed a significant number of people jumping ahead in line, claiming to be "friends of friends." So far, I’ve counted over 25 individuals who have done this, and it has made the wait incredibly frustrating.

What makes it even more challenging is that these individuals aren’t even sitting together once they’ve ordered, making the whole situation feel even more chaotic. It’s difficult to understand why this is being allowed, especially since these are adults, not kids.

I genuinely enjoy coming to Great Taco's, but this issue is impacting my experience and likely the experience of others as well. I would greatly appreciate it if you could address this situation to ensure a more fair and orderly environment for all your customers.

Good food, huge menu. Intimidating big.

Dining partner had a build your own and forgot to ask for rice, so it was a little weird. Would be cool if they had a little to paper card or something so you can see all the options and don't forget anything.

I had a chicken burrito which had a generous portion of chicken, but ended up all chicken at the bottom. Their chicken is shredded, which I don't prefer.

Ordering is done up front at the register before sitting with a number, food came out pretty quickly after. Everything tasted fresh and very well-made.

i visited yesterday right before they hit a big dinner rush. the customer service was so good! everyone was so nice and we got our food very quickly, but the price we paid was insane for what we got/the quality.

we got one burrito (the cheapest one they had), 2 regular margaritas, and one side of chips and queso (cup). it costs us $58 (including tip). i didn’t even eat, so that’s the price for just my boyfriend. my jaw almost hit the floor. the food is fine, but it’s basically a half step up from taco bell. maybe that’s the new standard with the economy, but $60 for one person to eat and 2 drinks is a little far-fetched.

I have greatly enjoyed the food every time I have come to Taco Mama in person, however I decided to try the takeout for the first time tonight since I was working late at the university. I ordered the Cheezy Beef with a side of Mexican Mac and Cheese. Unfortunately, the shell on my tacos were soggy and it turned into a taco bowl rather than a taco, although it's probably my fault since I was a couple minutes late picking up due to traffic. The real killer though was that my Mexican Mac & Cheese was missing when I opened up my order when I got home, and I still was charged for it. I also think I got charged for an additional side since the Cheezy Beef includes a side, but the menu on the facebook page may be old (I'm not sure). Either way, I will probably just stick to dining in rather than taking out

We were traveling through Alabama and it was time for lunch so we selected Taco Mama because they have "build your own" tacos (2 for $15). I was really impressed with these tacos. The shrimp was fresh and juicy. The corn tortillas were tasty, but fell apart because I over stuffed them with all sorts of free toppings. The tomatillo sauce was flavorful and tangy. These came accompanied by chips, salsa, and a side. I ordered the slaw. It was shredded with carrots and also had a tangy flavor, not at all mayonnesy. I would definitely come back for more.

This taco Mama will not put even a teaspoon of meat in your taco. They are fully aware that they are ripping you off and you should please save your money. Please go literally anywhere else.

After asking them about it they said "You can order extra meat but it costs more." I am not asking for EXTRA I'm asking for the minimum appropriate amount for a single taco. For $20 tacos they should really have meat in them.

The food was good, workers were friendly, but the place was talking loud (as opposed to music loud). If weather supports, eat outside if you want to talk to anyone without shouting. If weather doesn't support eating outside, get all your talking done before you go in.

Let me start out by telling y'all the staff here are AMAZING! We're walking up to the restaurant and we're greeted by a gentleman welcoming us, and walk in to a extremely nice, polite and knowledgeable young woman telling us how to order, where to sit and even getting us a refill on my drink (which was super nice because I have mobility issues). The young lady at the counter was super helpful too, and placing our order was easy! The food was brought to our table and boy was it delicious!! I'm comfortable saying best taco in town hands down. Highly recommend going there!

I've had Taco Mama quite a few times during a few "Open Houses" but never been there. We decided to give them a "In Person" visit. The experience was great! Everyone was very nice and super helped 👍🏽 I had the mix & match tacos with a Pomegranate margarita 🍹 😋 & my husband had the Cheezy Beef and Mercedes margarita (he didn't like it but they took care of that & he enjoyed a regular one 😀)

I hit Taco Mama's every time I'm in T-Town. Delicious burritos (personal favorite is the Judge) and strong margaritas. Food is always made fresh and tastes great. Almost a perfect place to eat and drink...if the line isn't too long.

Nice open layout, definitely friendly to large groups. Alright food, nice selection of Mexican inspired dishes. Drinks are plentiful but the frozen margaritas have left me wanting something else. Staff are helpful when not swamped. Prepare to stand in line for a while if going near 5pm.

Taco Mama is an excellent hip young spot to get some tacos. That is if you like tacos that are far from authentic. The food is good, but if you are looking for traditional Mexican street tacos stay away. The tacos they are known for are definitely white washed, this is not to say the tacos are bad. The tacos are decently tasty. The drink selection is very large as well, and for this reason it is an excellent game day choice.

Stopped in for lunch today and wow! The food is amazing. All of the toppings are free! Ordered the Nachos and added every topping on the board! So delicious and enough to feed our entire table so needless to say, I couldn’t finish it all by myself! Took the rest home for later. Truly amazing with tofu as a protein choice.

Loved my first visit to Taco Mama! My sophomore son took my wife and two daughters there with home for dinner just before 6 on a Saturday. Line was not outside yet, but does move quickly, fun vibe and atmosphere while waiting. Once we ordered, we grabbed out Mi Casa Margaritas at the bar and our red wooden triangle block number 31 and headed to an outside table. Food came for all 6 of us within 5 to 10 min and everything was done correctly. Great food and quantity for the price! I got the Classic Tacos and a side of Street Corn, street corn was some of the best I have had. Would go back just for that.

One of my favorite places to eat in Tuscaloosa. They’re almost always busy and have a huge line out the door, but they are really good at getting the line down. I think this most recent time I went was the first time in a while where there wasn’t any line and that was because we went way after regular lunch time.

Food was alright but a tad much for what you get: food places on a paper lined plastic basket....and par-boiled rice (that was the main thing I found totally out of place. You'd think that, for the price you pay, they could serve real rice).

Service is fine. But do we really need to tip to place an order at a till and have a person bring it to us?.....and that's pretty much it

Waited over an hour for the food and when I finally open my burrito it’s barely even the size of my palm, unrolled it and there was the saddest amount of fillings in the middle. Got maybe 15 chips for the queso and salsa. I get there was a rush of people and I completely understand having to wait, but the food was so incredibly botched that I’m just impressed you could waste that much time and deliver food that looks like a lobotomized baby cooked it up.for the price of the meal and what you delivered it just bad looks all around.

Some coworkers & I came here for lunch celebrating birthdays. It was my first time here. My food was really good. I didn’t like the street corn so much but it was my first time having it. I wasn’t sure what it was supposed to taste like, lol! They have a pretty decent variety of food on the menu & the atmosphere is great!

It's alittle expensive but,other then that the food is good and excellent customer service..Brooke provided me good service this past Sunday when I walked in there after I just got off of work..She made sure I was well taken care of and checked on me and that made my day..She so sweet and she also made sure I got my food also..Thanks to Brooke I might be coming back there soon to eat...Friendly atmosphere to eat and hangout at...Oh let me not forget the manager was also very friendly and nice..Made sure everything was well taken care of...Thank y'all so much.

If you've never been to Taco Mama, go there now. The atmosphere and service are great, and the food is even better. Quality is consistent and there's lots of options. Highly recommend.

I was in town for a visit to the University of Alabama for work. It was on a Tuesday (1/24/23), so of course we went for tacos on TACO TUESDAY. Taco Mama did not disappoint. It would not be a reach for me to say these were the best tacos I've eaten in my life. The chips were perfectly salted. The salsa was bangin. Queso was next level and their ranch...they put something in that...my lord. On top of all that, the service was great, the Pacifico was ice cold, and the atmosphere was vibey. You will not regret visiting Taco Mama. Get there early, the line hits the door in the blink of an eye :)

I recently visited Taco Mama and while the food was decent, I was left feeling a bit disappointed overall. The menu had a good variety of tacos, burritos and quesadillas, but the taste was just average. I ordered a quesadilla and it was fresh, but it lacked flavor and creativity.

The service at Taco Mama was also a bit lacking. The staff seemed unengaged and not particularly interested in providing good service. The wait time for my food was also longer than I would have liked.

The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, but the atmosphere felt a bit generic and lacked character. The decoration was minimal and nothing really stood out.

Overall, I would say that Taco Mama is a decent option for a quick bite to eat, but it doesn't stand out as a particularly exceptional dining experience. The food was decent, but the service and atmosphere left something to be desired. I was expecting more from this place and I was disappointed.

Visited Taco Mamas on Saturday December 31st. My wife and I ordered a draft beer and food. My wife noticed large pieces floating in our beers. We stopped drinking them and notified the bar tender. The next day we became very ill and it lasted several days. When we notified the bartender they did nothing to take that particular tap out of service. My research online discovered that the lines may have been contaminated from not being clean. I won’t be going back. However, the food was good.

Great atmosphere with even better food served with fantastic margaritas for a reasonable price, what more could you ask for?
As an out of town visitor, this place was a gem of a find and couldn't of been more pleased with the quality of the food and service.
If you're looking for a casual place to eat with great food for a decent price, you found it!!

The food was great. I really have no major complaints about anything. The price was rather high, but I do attribute that to inflation. Unfortunately. Unfortunately. Dinner for me and my young daughter was $27. No drinks. But even so, it was a very pleasant experience and I had a wonderful time. Highly recommended, delicious food.
