Veracruz Mexican Grill

We stopped here a few days ago for dinner. It’s a small yet vibrant Mexican cuisine restaurant. The menu is large and the food portions quite generous. The service is friendly and prompt. I had chicken fajitas and couldn’t finish the large amount they put on my platter. The food was fine, but I thought the chicken could have been seasoned with better fajita spices; it was a bit on the bland side for me. (Others’ tastes may vary.) Still, it was a positive experience overall. Lots of value for modest prices.

Have been here a couple of times, and I can attest to the fact that this is the second best Mexican place in town. Although it doesn't give the vibe of an "authentic Mexican place", the food is nevertheless close to what the cuisine actually is. Almost always, I have the Chicken Fajitas and Chicken Fajita Quesadilla, which are incredible. The tacos are decent. Their salsa is pretty good. Haven't tried a lot of non-Chicken dishes; but what I can guarnatee is that their any Chicken dish is delicious and filled with flavor. You cannot miss this place if you want to have Mexican.

Great little place! I Googled “best Mexican food near me” and here I am! Easily accessible from either direction (turn lanes). Great authentic Mexican vibe! The only reason I treated the food down was presentation. I ordered the B1 burrito and it looked like a big hoop on the plate. Tastes great but I’ve seen much better and colorful presentation.

We came here on a Sunday late afternoon around 2 pm. I took a longer time finding a menu item. The server got impatient and took my boyfriend's order. I thought he was just writing it down. His food came out quickly, yet I was waiting on our server to come back to take my order. Why would you place half an order in the system when the whole table wasn't ready?? Makes no sense to me.

Anyways, the food here is NOT good. I ordered a side of rice, which was never delivered. Glad I wasn't charged for that nonsense. I tried boyfriend's rice and I'm so glad I didn't have to pay for that bland rice. My burrito was so gross. I couldn't pack it home. Money down the drain!!

We came here Sunday afternoon. They immediately sat us and handed us our chips and salsa. The chips were warm but they were hard and not enjoyable. Salsa is good, however. We ordered drinks and when mine came, it had a fly in it so I had to ask for another. We ordered chicken fajitas for one and it was more than enough to split for 2 people. They came out fast and sizzling, still with smoke. Good portion of chicken and veggies, with side of lettuce, pico, beans, and rice. The pico was a bit overdressed with lime. The chicken itself is marinated in something that is super dark and at the bottom of the plate is just a pool of this dark liquid which I didn't like. I'd prefer something more fresh. Was very pricey- Sunday's they don't do lunch specials and they are currently charging .95 extra for grilled meats because of a shortage.. you’ll probably be spending around $20 a person if you get any side dips/drinks
We've had better experiences here but today has made me wonder if I should be searching for a better Mexican restaurant

We eat lunch here a couple times a month. Service is quick during the lunch rush and the food always comes out amazing. The staff does a good job and your drink is never empty.

The veggie quesadilla was very good and came with generous servings of rice and refried beans. The combo quesadilla plate also was delicious and had hearty servings. Overall, the price was very reasonable. My only complaint was that it took a while to get our servers attention when we wanted the check.

Casual no frills joint. Servers were friendly but a bit slow to get back around to me after I needed a few more minutes to look at the menu. The refried beans side and meat in the burrito could have been sasaltier and had more spices. I added table salt and they ended up being fine. The hot sauces on the table were better than anywhere else I've been and helped buff up the flavor. The main contention with the food was the rice had hard clumps in it. I understand prepping rice at the beginning of the day or reserving leftovers from a large batch but heat it in a steamer or something to prevent this. Flavor was OK though. I will give this place another chance. They have a huge menu to be explored.

Everyone here is super friendly. You can tell they enjoy being here. They also are very attentive but not to the point of being over bearing.

I called the restaurant because I put the wrong address, it was my first time ordering on crimson2go and it was a bit confusing. As soon as I called the restaurant and told them that whoever answered the phone had an attitude and stated that they have nothing to do that with that they just take the orders over the phone and that I needed to contact crimson2go then I asked if they had a phone number and she was audibly irritated with my asking this by saying Oh My God( I completely understand if people have called and the situation occurred before but there was no need to be rude to me) she also said she can find the number but she still had an attitude, so I said I'll figure out and thank you and hung up. I was nice on the phone the whole time but I was given attitude for no reason, just asking a simple question.

We had a big party of 11 and we were seated quickly. We tried a wide variety of food and all was excellent. The carne asada was outstanding. The guacamole was really good.

This use to be our favorite Mexican restaurant in Tuscaloosa but our last experiences was HORRIBLE. The waiter was racist!!!! He is short, a little heavier and medium to light complexion. He was rude and was treating us with little to no respect. He didn’t know we knew Spanish because of the Color of our skin and was talking reckless. I would NEVER EVER come back here again !!!!!!

If I could give 0 stars, I would based on poor customer service alone. I went to this establishment to meet a friend to celebrate her birthday. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and seated, which was the best part of the experience.

Note: There were about three tables occupied, so it was not crowded at all.

A gentleman promptly brought tortilla chips and salsa to the table; the chips were cold and stale so when another server passed by, I asked if I could have warm tortilla chips. A few minutes passed and my friend arrived; the warm chips still had not made it to the table, so I gently reminded the server that we were still awaiting warm chips. The server nonchalantly stated, "Ok. . .I'm busy. . . but I told him [the person in the kitchen]. . ." The server then took our drink order; I stated that we wanted a pitcher instead of the individual margaritas. The server rudely asked, "Do you know how much that costs?" I replied, "19.95, correct?" Then, he abruptly replied, "Yeah. . . and how many checks?" I replied that there would be one check and asked if that were okay? He said "Yeah. . ." and swiftly walked away. My friend, who is a regular at this establishment, asked what his attitude was about, and I replied that I didn't know. The chips still had not made it to the table. . .

A few moments later, another server emerged and circled the area at which we were seated with two baskets of seemingly fresh tortilla chips. He then placed one basket of tortilla chips at the booth in front of us, then circled back to the kitchen, carrying the other basket of chips. I surmised that he'd seen the old, cold tortilla chips on our table and thought we did not need them, so I attempted to get his attention, saying "Excuse me. Excuse me. . . Excuse me. . ." as he walked away, but he never turned around. He soon returned with the tortilla chips, and I attempted to explain that I'd called him to tell him we were indeed the table to receive the warm tortilla chips. The server, nonchalant, unmoved, apathetic, and ultimately rude, replied, "Okay. . ."

This response was the last straw for me. I asked my friend if she had another restaurant that she wanted to go to, and she did. So, we left and celebrated elsewhere.

In short, this was one of the worst casual restaurant experiences I have ever had. I do not tolerate poor customer service, nor I do I spend my money at establishments that do not treat their customers with respect. While my friend stated that this type of behavior had never happened to her at this establishment before, she was also in agreement that the servers' behavior was problematic. I do not know if the staff had a bad day, but I will not return for more apathy, stale tortilla chips, or attitudes.

DONT EAT HERE IF YOU'RE BLACK, THEY STAND OVER YOU AND SPEAK TO EACHOTHER IN ESPANOL UNTIL YOU PAY YOUR BILL!!!!! While the atmosphere was pretty nice, the food and staff sucked. I ordered the chicken plate, my chicken was dry and bland as well as the sides (bland). I really didnt appreciate being treated like a dine and dasher! I suggest eating elsewhere.....

My boyfriend and I tried Veracruz Mexican grill for the first time and absolutely loved it. Our waiter Eugenio was terrific, and the menu has a great selection to choose from. We will definitely be back!

This has been my spot since 2017. Many date nights, celebrations, happy hours, etc. I can’t say enough good things about this place and the people who run it. Never had a bad experience here once. Everything I’ve tried on the menu has been delicious. & they have the best margaritas in Tuscaloosa. Definitely try this place out.

Excellent place to go, very good authentic Mexican food , beyond good to be exact . Not to mention the size of the meal portions a single person meal can easily feed 2 or 3 people , and the prices , customer service, and staff is excellent.

Horrible experience! Business event with many doctors there last night and roaches ran across food and table. New management laughed instead of trying to make this right! Over $500 charged for food and drinks not eaten or drunk! New company, La Bamba DO BETTER!

This place honestly sucks. The service is terrible and your server will literally sit around in the kitchen in front of your face and not serve you. Slow and inattentive. Proceeded to APPLE PAY at the front and the girl then accused me of not paying and took pictures of me and my friends license plates when every single one of them literally watched me pay. They are delusional, racist, rude, and like I said, slow. Id go to la hacienda over this place anyday. Do not waste your time because nothing is quick here and you’ll likely be sitting there for an hour or more just waiting on service.

I had a horrible experience at Vera Cruz. Our chips were moldy. Our cheese dip tasted like cigarettes. I complained, but our waiter who was apparently the manager, wouldn’t give us another cheese dip and still charged me for it, even though we didn’t eat it. Overall, a horrible experience. I don’t recommend. With the variety of Mexican restaurants, I wouldn’t recommend this one.

This was a terrible experience. The drinks were watered down, the chips were burnt, and the wait staff was really rude. When I made mention of the chips being a little over cooked ( you could clearly see they were brown and hard) the waiter seemed upset and snatched them off of the table, wasting some of the chips on the floor. There were also gnat flies flying around. I found myself fanning them away which was quite annoying. The staff members all seemed irritable and frustrated. I definitely won’t be going back.

I did a pickup order for their Enchiladas Verde and from their menu it’s 10.95 there’s no way my food should’ve been $14. On top of that only 1/3 enchiladas were actually chicken, the other two were filled with refried beans. I very disappointed because I’ve been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile now. Hate to say it, but it’s not worth even giving them a second try.

I am very disappointed at Veracruz. It was one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town. Unfortunately my family and I went in and sat and ordered drinks and queso. We waited patiently for our server to come back to take our order while other tables came in and immediately got serviced and a welcoming smile. I felt like our server was bothered by us when he noticed that we still needed a minute to figure out our order at first and then when we proceeded to get his attention via another employee he still neglected to come take our order. I hate to make things about race but as the only black family in the restaurant our service seemed very poor. I actually liked Veracruz but they are now on my do not eat list. I am not sure if this was simply the employee or not because we never had a bad experience there but only one employee actually apologized when we said we felt uncomfortable and left. Again this was my and my family's experience.
