Sol Azteca Méxican Restaurant

Love the food and atmosphere. It’s fun and the kids love the lights. It’s not to loud to hold a conversation, but loud enough that I don’t worry about my kids bothering other guests.
The margaritas are - strong. The cheese dip is great. I like the Burrito California (you could split it).

Let me start by saying that the food here is absolutely phenomenal, the place is really clean, staff is really attentive, it's hard to want anything more then great food and great people around you.
I want to give a shout out to the guy that made my night, my week, and my entire year... all in just a few minutes!
Kevin. He's got a huge personality so you can't miss him when you walk in the door. I guarantee you he will greet you with a smile and with open arms and he is one of the nicest and kindest and well-mannered and I'm going and personal and they all around wonderful wonderful guy. I can't tell you how happy I am that I ran into him and he got to know me quickly, because he asked questions and you listened and he has this amazing amazing ability to reach people and connect with people on whatever level.

I'm blown Away of my experience, from the people inside who barely speak English but yet went out of their way to speak to me on some sort of way. I really am just blown away at the type of people that were in there and I'm blown Away l wonderful and amazing my experience was I never honestly experienced anything like this.

I can tell you, this is the last time I will be there, I will drive out of my way and go out of my way just to come here even if it's just to say hello. You'll really have changed my outlook on what customer service is all about and thank you for being a great example, I wish to God every restaurant returned to you and just look, I'm telling you, you've got the magic!

The perfect day for a food review.

I ordered the strawberry margarita and a chicken burrito supreme/deluxe

The service was really good. If there was any language barrier it was minimal.

I was brought chips and salsa first. I was really pleased with the salsa. Not sure if it is a home recipe. The chips were warm and offered a nice crisp to them.

The margarita was mixed nicely, smooth and consistent flavor.

The burrito was average in portion. It offered no twist or surprise in it. I wasn't wild about finding boiled shredded chicken. However the bed of sauce kept the meal moist.

I would recommend this restaurant, maybe a different entree.

They actually play reggaeton and pop music. The portions are big. They were able to put some tables together and seat all of us without a wait.

Loved all the greenery as decoration. It was either the manager or the owner who waited on us and he was so funny and kind. Will I visit this restaurant again and bring others? YES!!! It is too good to not share. It's a combo of the food, atmosphere, and definitely the margaritas. Try the strawberry you will not be disappointed! We had the shrimp quesadillas and they were also delicious.

I came before closing. The WORST Mexican food I have ever tasted. The only thing that was good was chips and salsa. Other than that, chicken and beef tasted like leftovers and was microwaved. Rice was cold. Chewing the meat was useless, so I swallowed 3 pieces of meat without chewing and then I gave up. I don’t recommend it.

Good food and the best frozen margaritas in town! Service is always friendly and there's great ambiance. Sol Azteca has been owned by the same family for decades. My wife and her family have been going there since she was a child and, when I started going there with them, the owners and staff welcomed me like I was family, too.

We always start with the cheese dip with a side of diced jalepenos and a frozen margarita. I usually get a fajita chicken quesadilla with rice and beans on the side, plus a little of their house made hot sauce (which will light you up!), a fajita chicken taco salad, or chicken and steak fajitas, but everything is good from the whole fried fish, shrimp cocktail, and enchiladas to the chilaquiles!

Go and get a margarita or three, just make sure you've got a designated driver!

Came here for a birthday dinner and took 30 min after we were all seated to have a waiter. The waiter we got was extremely rude and argumentative and blamed us for not all being there (everyone got there at the same time). We had to walk out because we were so disrespected after waiting for so long

The food was wet ..lol I ordered the shrimp chimichunga, and it looked like they just put bean juice with it. When I cut into it gross,just bean juice and gamy shrimp the lettuce was not fully chopped and they didn't dice the tomato they just laid it on top of the lettuce like a burger the drinks were watered down sizing was the worse they never even asked if the food was good I wasn't satisfied but because I was going to meet some old friends they like this place I didn't want to complain I knew I would only be going for them others complained as well but I highly doubt the cared considering they were breaking there glasses lol 😆 the host ordered us a shot and they brought out what they had 🤣🤣 I guess ..I wouldn't drive from my side of town to this particular mexican spot pass by it yes but stop no only for the girls I did suggest we try some other mexican restaurants to open their minds up so hopefully this was the last time

We sat there for over 30 minutes to get our order taken and so I just decided to leave and of course they charge you full price for just pineapple water a soda and cheese sauce when they should have discounted something for us wanting to even leave because they took 30 minutes to to take out order after it was only a total of four to six people in the whole damn building

Got charged $15 for two beef enchiladas with rice and beans for my girlfriend. I had the burritos deluxe. Food was no good, service was worse. Waiter was talking to other employees for 15 min while we were waiting to order. Also ordered fried ice cream-it wasn’t fried and tasted pre made.

Pre 2020 this place was bad, I can't imagine what it's like today. Service is so far sub par, I wouldn't even send my worst enemy. Food is a notch above Taco Bell. Save your money and find a place off of Lorna Road in Hoover.

I ordered 1 chicken tostado and side of beans. The tostado was so-so, and the beans were fine. My husband had the chicken fajita and said they were excellent. We had guacamole with our chips, and it was fresh and chunky. Great tasting.

The food is subpar at best. Everything tastes as if it came from low quality products served at a premium price for their satisfaction. The margs are extremely overpriced . They have very strange toxic green color like a swamp filled with algae. However, there's great news no limes were harmed in the making of the "lime" margaritas. Also, I really appreciate the respect they show for the community by blasting techno at 10:00am on a Sunday while racing cars (that have exhaust systems that sound guns firing pop rocks at brass instruments) up and down 31.

I am from Texas which is fairly close to Mexico. During my lifetime, I have had my share of excellent, good, fair, and terrible Mexican food. This food is bordering on disgusting, it is not traditional Mexican food in any form. If I was blind folded and taste testing I could only classify it as completely terrible, with salsa that left me wondering if it was Italian spegetti sauce. The meat is bland, taste old and dried out ( especially the beef) the spices they choose are completely wrong for south of the border. I actually felt ashamed that I had to pay for these 3 horrible meals. I want to note that I have eaten here 3 times over the course of a years time span in hopes that this restaurant would provide me with some type of satisfactory result only to be disappointed every time. The one thing they do properly is fry a corn chip. If you are eating here please order many alcoholic drinks, as you will likely want to forget the experience entirely.

Excellent and highly attentive service. Salsa for chips was excellent- liked it better than any I've ever had before. Mushroom quesadilla was superb. Not the best cut of steak, but prepared very well and generously slathered with peppers and onions, very nice. Only unfortunate aspect was that when I dropped in the only table available was directly in front of the musicians, so I couldn't hear anything the waitstaff asked of me. Lo siento to the musicians for my having to shout over them; they played excellently. Wonderful place, will remember for future trips to Birmingham.

A large group and I went here to get some food and watch the playoff game since most other places required a wait to be seated. I quickly realized there was a reason this place had no wait. Everything was fine and service was fine, but when we went to pay, they tried to charge us for a margarita pitcher that was not even on the menu. We ordered a large lime margarita pitcher. THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME HERE. How do we even know there’s a “supreme” top shelf margarita not even listed on the menu? It was called the “Wayne margarita”. After about 10 minutes of arguing at checkout, we finally thought we got it fixed on our bill. After I paid, I realized I had been charged the original price!! I went back in to see my receipt and was told they couldn’t find my receipt… WHAT? If I tricked and treated customers this way I would be fired. Will not be back and cannot recommend people to not come here enough.

Have you been looking for a Mexican restuarant with a deep menu that is decorated like an Aztec jungle, including lot of lighted trees? Have I got the place for you! This is a fun place in the middle of Vestavia where the family owners will pick up instruments and play music. When they jam Santana, it's cool! Lots of great food options, including vegetarian. And yes, they have pre-meal chips/salsa and they have a bar/drink options.

The service was excellent for lunch time, although the meat I had in my Texanas Fajitas tasted bland, almost as if they didn't season it at all. However my biggest gripe is that their entrance is cluttered and made it difficult for my wide who is disabled to get in with her scooter. Overall a decent place to eat.

Hands down the worst service I’ve ever experienced. We ordered our food and 50 minutes later, we found out that they haven’t even started cooking our order because there was a “large” party. The table that walked in right before us was eating their food happily. The server’s excuse was that a “big” party ordered right before us. Turns out that they all had plates and food in front of them. The waitress took forever to take our order and I bet she forgot to submit our order. She didn’t even own up to making a mistake. Avoid this place like the plague. You’ll starve if you’re not a regular customer. The server still decided to charge us for the queso and drinks we ordered. I hope they replace this restaurant with something that has better service that’s fair to all customers.

Went there tonight and am extremely frustrated. When I was checking out, I handed them my card. They swiped it and then asked to swipe it again saying it didn’t go through. I gave the card back, and they swiped it again. Once again, they said it didn’t go through. I gave them the card a third time and said “Are you sure you’re not charging me? This is making me nervous that you might be charging me multiple times” They brought the manager over and he swiped my card a fourth time. They said it finally went through and I asked the manager if they had charged me for the three other times and he assured me they hadn’t. I checked my bank account tonight and I had been charged four times. Will be disputing this with my bank and never returning again. Be careful going here.

Update from the next day: They happily went in and added custom tips on each charge that I didn’t sign for. Will bring going into the store today to handle this in person.

Before coming to this restaurant I checked the review and I saw great reviews so my business partner and I went there for dinner. The interior is a spectacular sight there are lights and plam trees and if you are in the mood for festive music and want enjoy the energy of a happy culture they have a live band on the weekend!💃💃 The server was kind and made jokes to make us comfortable. When the food came out it was fresh, sizzling good sized portions and delicious! They will have my business again! You should definitely give them a try!

Great service! The servers checked on us regularly even after we paid. We went there on Veterans Day. I was so appreciative that they discounted my bill to show their appreciation for me serving in the military. BTW, the Burrito California meal was amazing!

Always have been greatly satisfied with every visit here. Tonight was different, food came out horrible, after two bites I told my server I didn't like it and tried to explain why, she simply said ok and walked off. Didn't offer to replace it, ask me did I want another dish, etc. She brought the check with said dish still on my bill, and then she disappeared for about ten minutes. Finally came into contact with her at the register and she told me multiple times she just didn't see the charge of the item (blatantly still attached to my bill) after about three or four times she finally"saw the charge" and removed it. Wish things could have been handled differently this time.
