El jaguar restaurant, mariscos & bar

Second time visiting today. I have to say the food is absolutely amazing. Very hot, very fresh. Service was excellent both times. Only giving 4 stars because the music is entirely too loud for a restaurant setting. It is literally so loud I cannot hear my server to place my order. And also see people come in and turn right back and leave because it's just not ideal. Not only that but the patrons at the bar area are screaming and yelling with their gritos it literally sounds like I'm in a tropical rainforest. If you love fresh, hot, authentic Mexican food I would highly recommend this place. Just be advised the music is LOUD.

Update to the below review. Even though the food is fantastic, my husband & I are debating on returning for future visits due to the overly loud music. 11am trying to have lunch & the music is so loud that we can't talk unless we yell. Our waitress had to lean in to hear us say our order & the staff was yelling at each other to communicate.

Makes me feel like I'm in a packed bar on a Friday/ Saturday night. No need for music in a restaurant to be that loud. Not inviting at all!!!!

My husband & I have been waiting for this restaurant to open & let me tell you it was worth the wait. Besides a language/ communication barrier & our appetizers coming out with our main meal, the food was Fantastic!! The flavors were on point, the portions was plenty & my mouth said feed me more when my belly kept saying stop 😆. We will definitely go back to explore more of the menu.

If you haven't been here, you must make time to go.... it is worth it.

Ok, only 2 days ago I ate here & I find myself back again. This place & is flavors are amazing.

I wasn't not prepared, this place is amazing and I highly recommend it! From the staff to the food, the best experience I've had in a long time! The food was delicious, the cocktails were some of the best I've had in a long time! Tasty, strong and beautifully presented! We're coming back after 9 to see the band!

They have the best ceviche in town. I got a fajita plate for one with enough meat for two for the price of one. My husband got the chile relleno plate which was so large he could only eat half. The service was amazing the atmosphere was nice. This is my new favorite spot to eat in Baytown!!!

The music is a bit loud, but it’s nice that it’s live. Very fun to watch everyone on the dance floor having a good time. There is a language barrier, but the restaurants with that always have the best food. The food was delicious. Would come back again, hopefully my ears aren’t popping when I leave teehee. 🩷

Music was VERY LOUD - couldn't talk without yelling; language barrier; my food came out and the center was still cold - cheese not melted; my wife's enchilada plate - the sauce was nasty - way too much chilli powder in the sauce. Price was ok, but will be a while before we come back here

The food and drinks here are really good. My sister received a dirty fork, and the chips were super stale. Basically, they were inedible. The music is so loud it is hard to have a conversation, then when in the middle of the song it stops or skips then what you say was heard across the restaurant.
We will be back and hoping for a better experience.

Honestly, I am biased. When you go to a place that, by another name, was your favorite, everything is going to disappoint.

If you go in thinking a bar with a menu, you won't be disappointed.

1. They remodeled, so the door is in the smallest of the 2 parking lots.

2. Inside is fine. It's a bar with food. Very overpriced food. I got a ribeye. On the menu, you see ribeye for $25.99, you think ok. But it was so thin. It was like I was eating half a steak.

3. Rice is the new normal in Mexican, with corn. I'm dropping it there.

4. The chips were corn Tostitos. Red salsa was pretty good, but they had a white salsa that was not spicy, but I loved it. Only it didn't stick to your chip. It wasn't a dip. Just chunky. As good as it tastes, it needs a binder to stick to the chip.

5. Everything just came off as ill-advised from the door position to the TVs playing silently with no subtitles.

this is a Mexican seafood restaurant. the chips are like the cheap ones at kroger. the fajita beef was good but I ordered fajitas enchiladas. it was cheese enchiladas with the meat on the side,which is OK w me. service wasn't good. the red salsa is served warm (that's a deal breaker 4 me ).we had no silverware and waited too long to get some. there were only 4 tables seated and 2 waitress, sevice should have been better. The place is pretty good overall, the atmosphere is good. The food was the highlight of the lunch. The only problem I saw was the pictures on the menu didn't look too appetizing.

La salsa está más o menos solo te dan una salsa. Mi review es mas para que mejoren sus cosas. Ordenamos 4 personas 144 más tip aparte. Ordene street tacos y estaban muy secos, el chicharrón de pescado demasiado seco, el aguachile no era lo que esperaba. El pulpo del coctel demasiado correoso. Fui porque quería probar los mariscos y no se me antojó nada. La frescura de la comida está fallando no se si porque ya eran las 9 pero deberían tener todo más sancochado. Los chips deberían de hacerlos en casa ya que jamás me habían servido nacho chips en un restaurante. El pescado zarandeado muy pequeño pero igual no estaba bien cosido y lo hacen de guachinango.

The food was absolutely delicious! Service was great and the restaurant was very nice and clean. My family will definitely be back. We got the Agua chilies, Shrimp Cocktail, & the Ceviche Del Mar and when I tell you that we left nothing on our plates the food was just great! Please stop by and try it out and don’t base your decision on a bad review this place is definitely worth the try if you enjoy seafood.

THE WORST NACHOS EVER!!! WE WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN THE NACHOS WERE COLD WHEN WE GOT THEM. AND THEN WE SENT THEM BACK TO GET RE MADE AND THEY JUST ADDED MORE CHEESE (HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME CHEESE) AND SENT THEM BACK TO US. Not a good experience.

Visited Labor Day for lunch . The host was not welcoming, told us to “pick a table I’ll take your menus in a minute.” .. we sat .. she only brought 2 menus and utensils when it was 3 of us . She said “I only brought two menus” and walked always and never brought another menu. The waiter came to take our order and we asked for more time because we had barely sat down . Did not take our drink order walked away .. We waited for him to return to order food and drinks but he was busy attending bar customers first. We waited but service was already bad so we decided to leave.

We did not get to eat. Hopefully there will be better service if we decide to return again.

For the the same price, $18, you can get an octopus plate with a side of fried rice, a side of french fries, and a drink at Mambos. On the other hand, here at "El Jaguar" you only get octopus with no sides or a drink for $18usd. I recommend Mambos if you're an octopus lover.

$18dlrs pague por esto sin bebiba y acompañanientos. Recomiendo Mambos seafood para los amantes del pulpo, por el mismo precio obtienes Bebiba, su arroz frito, y papitas fritas.

lo unico bueno es que cierran a las 2am.

I’ve been two times already that’s how good the food is. Service has been amazing too every time I go no complaints there. I always get the same thing the enchiladas. If your going I recommend that you try them!!
