El Trompo Mexican Grill

I had the chicken in habanero taco salad as I wanted a low carb option. This was not the place to ask for that as it was plated more like a platter rather than a taco salad. My chicken was actually overcooked and dried to the bite. My food really had no flavor and the salsa that was supposed to be spicy was just heat with no flavor at all (not really spicy though, just acidic)
The service was really good though and they tried their best. They were very friendly and tried to accommodate but I think most people just go in there for burritos and such.
The atmosphere was nothing out of the ordinary, just tables and music. A little loud on the music but that's about it.

DELICIOUS!! I wish we took pictures!! We didn't know what to expect. The people were so kind and explained their ordering process. Our burritos were incredible! The meats were delicious! The ingredients were fresh. It was so good!! We WILL be back soon even though we live almost an hour away!! Best burrito I've ever had! & trust me, I've had burritos in several states.

Ordered barbacoa tacos and nacho cheese 2 hours ago today. My gf is throwing up and I’m holding back throwing up currently. The nacho cheese had a strong sour taste and we only each ate a bite before we noticed. Definitely have food poisoning from the nacho cheese meaning this restaurant does not hold up to any sort of code. DO NOT EAT HERE.

Was my first time there and I can honestly say it’s better than chipotle and half the price!!! The green salsa is the best salsa I have ever had. Not too spicy but enough to give you a kick. Definitely need to try out this place while you’re in town!!

10/10 don’t recommend this place. Unless you’re just into spending almost 20$ for a dang burrito. Then they just blame the price on the toppings. Pretty sure chipotle doesn’t even charge for every single topping. It’s a fraction of the cost too. Highly disappointed, I’ll be sure to tell everyone i know not to go to this place!

I’m in Stephenville going to school and being from Corpus Christi I’ve been missing some authentic Mexican food. This place did not disappoint! These are the best tacos I’ve had in a LONG TIME. This will totally be my new favorite study food spot!!! The people who work there are so sweet and so helpful, I can’t wait to go back with my friends and get some more food.

I’ve been to El Trompo several times for lunch and it is excellent food and quick and easy service. The food taste like it’s has been prepared with love and not just thrown together to make a quick buck. I would highly recommend this place even over an expensive restaurant.

Probably the best breakfast burrito I have ever had.
The homemade chorizo? Unbelievable.
The potatoes? I am not exaggerating when I say these were quite possibly the best potatoes I have ever eaten.

The burritos were made fresh in front of us, and he adjusted the spice level for me and my husband perfectly. I love spice, and my husband is very spice-intolerant. We were both thrilled with the food we got here.

The burritos are huge. The food is fresh and homemade. The service is A+. If you're debating, just go. You will not regret it.

Food was bland, customer service was very much lacking. It was clean, but wasn't set up in a way to understand or see the menu to order, stated it was my first time there, was pretty much ignored with no assistances or suggestions on the menu and felt judge by the two female worker's as i was an inconvenience to their time. There menu is huge above the ordering counter with no space to step back and actually see it. There's also no oder to the menu, I ended up ordering shrimp tacos, simple enough but the shrimp had no seasoning and were soked in pico de Gallo, which wasn't shown on the picture of the shrimp tacos they had on there menu, im not fond of Pico and would have asked to leave it off and it was really wet and a green Salsa that had no spice or much flavor to it at all, was disappointed for the price of 3 very soggy non seasoned tacos. Was also charged 7$ for a bottle of coke, just crazy. Won't be back.

Not only is it $18 for a rice bowl because every topping except the bowl (1/2 a styrofoam to go box) was $1.25 each for rice, beans, meat, pico, etc., but the food is not good. It’s whitewashed “Hispanic” food and Chipotle has better tasting food. I’d rather deal with college students at Tarleton to go to T-Birds just to save 10 dollars for average tasting food for a bigger portion of the exact same thing. If you’re ok with poorly cooked meat, over priced items, and some food poisoning, look no further.

The breakfast burrito was $10! I thought that was expensive and it turned out to be very very greasy. Taste wasn’t bad, definitely a more traditional Mexican food taste, but too greasy and expensive for my five star.

I really wanted this place to be great, but it wasn't. The food was all in warmers and my tacos were barely warm. Soda out of the cooler was barely cold. It just wasn't fresh. Staff was blah. Probably won't return.

Just had three delicious barbacoa tacos. Corn tortillas, fresh onions and cilantro. You must try their “really hot” salsa, omg perfect heat. I will definitely stop-in the next time I’m driving they stephenville, tx.

The food was amazing and the service was even better! They have a lot of great options, their Aquas Frescas are perfection. I’m so sad we didn’t try this sooner, we will definitely be back.

Maybe I just order on bad days but this is extremely overpriced and honestly not the best quality. I’ve grown up on Mexican food, I eat almost everything and I’ve given multiple dishes here a chance but keep getting disappointed. I know there aren’t that many options out here but nobody should pay high quality street taco/burrito prices for something that isn’t well cooked or well seasoned. I’ve never had something so bad I can’t eat it, especially not a Mexican dish, until this place. Two stars for effort but not wasting my money here again.

Good service, the taste is ok. My only complain is that the food was a bit cold. I had carne asada and pastor tacos, the pastor tasted better if you add the pineapple to it. The asada was ok, not bad but not what I expected. I had a flan, not what I expected. 😞

Let me start our and say the food is delicious. But I don't believe you get what you pay for. I had a DoorDash delivery to my house, as I was working on my boat, and didn't want to go all the way into town. I've never had food from here before, but it looked good. In regards to chips and queso, I got about 8 chips and a cup what tasted like canned melted cheese for $4. I ordered gorditas for my wife and I, my favorite mexican dish, and got 1 each, no sides. That's fine and all, but for $11 a piece, I'm not going to lie, I was expecting 2 with rice and beans like most places. The gorditas were delicious, but what you get is a huge dissapointment, and I definitely did not get $25 worth of food.

Totally disappointing... tried it tonight for the first time and was really excited! I had tried one of their tacos before from a friend and it tasted like the real/authentic Mexican food from back home.
Complete waste of $50. Yeah, $50! We got one bean cheese rice and asada burrito (pretty basic burrito), 8 tacos (4 pastor and 4 chicharrons) and three drinks. The rice was way undercooked, crunchy and hardly flavored like Mexican rice, the cheese didn’t melt and was like plastic, and the pastor was inedible. Very disappointed not only in the quality but the price is ridiculous especially for this area.

Waste of time and money. Everything on our order was a disappointment. Got a pork tamale to try it, that pretty much taste like cornbread and super dry, got chips and queso the chips were past stale, on the tacos which we got 3 different ones to try them, the corn tortillas should have been warmed up and pretty much tasteless. But then topping it off the sweet tea was gross. Looking at the reviews we didn’t expect this outcome but looks like all the reviews are not recent anyhow. We won’t be back.
