First of all the service was awesome😊 Lilly our waitress was all smiles made our lunch a great experience. My daughter and I ordered Tampiqueñas and they did not disappoint. It's a small restaurant with good food. The only thing is with this Texas heat the temperature 🌡️ inside was stuffy and uncomfortable. Other than that it was delightful and the bill was comfortable for our pockets. When in Weslaco we will definitely be back to try new dishes. Great Service Once Again Lilly.

If it's your first time? Here's my review.

Janie's Cafe Food is delicious, fresh & hot. I rated a 3 🌟 🌟 🌟 for these reasons. Place is old needs to be updated has dirty stained floors, ceiling panels stained, lights work some don't gives you dim lighting. Old Tables need to be replaced, tables got cardboard paper to level legs at the bottom. The atmosphere is medium you'll also get vendors coming in & out selling items as well as mariachi's singing for tips. I went around 9am for breakfast paid $12 with some change for a breakfast plate including drink also food takes at least 30mins for arrival so be prepared. Waiters don't check up much on there guests so be ready to call out. It really is a Cafe mainly get a lot of elderly people which is fine with me I'm here to enjoy a good meal. Now what disgusted me the most was the restroom. I've never been in a old school bar restroom but I can imagine it be like Janie's Cafes restroom. When I went to wash my hands before eating I than lost my appetite so I couldn't eat right after "thinking" but oh well. The sink wobbles, no toilet paper just rolls stacked on top of each other. The tolite has no cover, worn out & looked out of a Action Movie. Mold.. lots of mold under the urinal drain pipe. Trash cans seen better days. A/C filter blacker than the black crayola crayon. Mirror reminded me of a horror film. So please if you decide to go it's great food but they need a huge update. I'd figure with all that traffic they'd invest a bit. Please review actual photos I took when I was there.

Arriving at 12:15 on a Wednesday, we had excellent service and delicious, huge meals. Hubby had Janie's #2 (combo fajita plate with fries and Texas toast). I had #58 Mexico City, which included cheese enchilada, fajita beef taco (huge!), a yummy tostada and beans and rice. The beef was so good. The cheese enchilada was excellent. I pulled off all the tortillas as I'm watching my carbs. Such good homemade fresh squeezed lemonade, not too sweet. And their homemade salsa is HOT but so tasty. We are definitely coming back here and bringing our friends! Very reasonable prices. Can't wait to try their breakfast. UPDATE: 11/3/23 Had brunch here with 3 friends. Delicious coffee. Great food (try the pancakes and French toast!). Excellent, friendly service. A+++ rating Best pancakes ever!

If you're pressed for time during lunch, this is NOT the place to go. This is the third time I've been there and they don't have my food ready. All 3 times I've walked out without my food and an empty stomach. Was trying to let them redeem themselves but, they failed. Won't be going back there again.
And I get the feeling management doesn't care, based on the response I just got.

Great food but be prepared to wait some minutes as the food is being prepared fresh. It is worth it. Have breakfast here alot and always hot and fresh! Especially the tortillas! Will keep going as breakfast is served all day.

The food is delicious, the prices great. Our waitress was so nice and checked on us frequently and such a positive attitude. It was a little warm for me but it could probably be just me. Other people looked comfortable. You also get a lot of food. This is a great place for Mexican food.

We love the food here. The decor is nothing to brag about but the wait staff gets the job done. They are usually so busy that there is no host to seat you and if you've never been there before, you wouldn't know to go to an open table and seat yourself. The only way we knew was when some locals, who were also waiting for a table, told us that. We ordered breakfast chilaquiles with eggs and a pork chop with eggs and potatoes. Both dishes came out hot and tasty. The prices are pretty good, the two of us ate for under $20. Our server was very good, taking care of several tables at once. This restaurant is always busy with locals, which is always a sign of good food!

We waited 30 minutes for coffee. Food came fairly fast after we finally were able to order. No frills diner. Not as clean as it should be. Food made me sick. I have many food sensitivities and they had a hard time understanding how important cross contamination can be.

DO NOT COME HERE! NO VENGAN AQUI nos tardamos más de una hora, para que nos dijeran que la comida todavía no iba salir, cuando ya varias mesas que llegaron después de nosotros les llegó su comida. Although food and waitress are great, service is awful, we went to have 2 oatmeals and waited almost an hr before decided to leave (BTW food wasn't even ready) come to find out they said it's the order you come in you get served, so if there's a party of 8 and you only order oatmeals you have to wait until they get served...that's ridiculous....I would totally not recommend this place......we ended up having breakfast elsewhere

Worst service waited 5 minutes to get menus and drink order 5 minutes to get our drinks. Then waited 30 minutes!! Never got our breakfast so we left when we went to the cashier to let them know we waited 30 minutes for our food she still changed us our tea and coffee. Plus coffee cup had stains was not washed properly. Never again. We keep seeing people waiting for service as well.

Friendly busy good food love that they have a drive thru my suggestion order before and pick up, Very reasonable prices. Update Nov 2023 even after I place my order ahead I still have to wait I enjoy there food but there wait is ridiculous 40 min I've been here in sep oct and now November and still they say 20 min I get here past 20 min at 25 min and still sit for a while here any other recommendations for food.

I wanted something specific and no one can do it. To top it off it’s super easy but Janie’s cafe was so kind and we’re quick to place the order. I had asked for just a toast w egg white and Avacado. My wife had been eating Oatmeal from Janie's Cafe for a couple months. being she has cancer it was easy for her to eat. she always commented how good it was. before her passing I promised to keep eating the oatmeal in her place when I tried it the first time I understood why she ate it so much. it is amazing always fresh. now I've tried other breakfast items and haven't been let down.

Went 1/21/23 cannot even believe it but we waited over an hour and no food ever came to our table. The server wouldn't even come to our table to explain. We sent every other server to ask for him and he never came out he was just hiding. The other servers just kept saying the food was almost out and they would go to the back but never said anything either. I understand it isn't fast food but an hour! Plus everyone else that came in after us got their food. It was clearly his error and I've worked in the industry there are ways to handle these situations we are human we forget. We tried to at least pay for drinks but they said it was OK and we walked out hungry and disappointed.

I have ordered 30 minutes ahead of time and they give you a time frame if ready in 20. You get there and they take an extra 30 minutes for the order to be ready.

First time visit. The food was good, service was excellent and the prices were fair. The only negative was the wobbly tables. They sell table levelers at the hardware store for cheap. We will come back.

12/16/22 UPDATE: A BIG negative: the noise level can be a bit much especially when the place is full, the ranchera music (please turn it down or off!) is blaring and 2 TVs going. I'm partially deaf so it has to be really annoying for me to say something. The loud music and TV noise does nothing to enhance the dining experience for sure and sometimes make me think twice about coming here. 🤔🙄😒

I am only rating my last experience because their food is normally very good. This time, it was not so good. I ordered Papas a la Mexicana w/Chorizo Beans and a strip of Bacon Taco and it had a funky taste to it. I tasted a little bit at a time and it ended up being the tomatoes. They were rotten I think. I took out all the tomatoes and still ate my food. Tasted wayyyyy better afterwards.

Terrible Service!!! We arrived at 10:45am we placed our order within 5 minutes of arriving and 45 minutes later still no food and left. Tried to pay our coffee and even the cashier did not want to charge me because she knew we were their a long time. Even a big family of 8 that arrived after us had their food before us, so our waitress or the kitchen is to blame for this mishap. The bad thing is I would always recommend people to this place and now definitely a no.

Use to be my favorite place for enchiladas 💯 and they made one mean burger! Now you have to wait like 30min for your food! And I got oil and water for enchilada sauce 😩🤮😡 and the burger is no longer a fresh hand pressed patty🥺 it's a frozen dry salty patty🤮! It has gone downhill 👎

Slow slow service. Do not go here if you’re on your lunch. I made the mistake of wanting to try this place out on my lunch and I was very disappointed. As soon as I walked in I went to the front to ask if we seat ourselves or wait to be seated. They told me I could sit where I’d like. There were no clean tables but they assured me someone would go by to clean the table and take my order. After about 15 minutes of sitting at a dirty table I had to flag down a waitress to ask who my server was. She picked up the cups at the table and shortly after another waitress came by to take my order when I had no menu. I asked for a menu ordered and waited. Waited 25 minutes and still no food. My lunch was about to be over so I went to the front and asked to cancel my order. There was no apology they just said “ok”. Terrible service.

Delicious! The plates are served with a side of beans and some potatoes. Came here for breakfast with my kids and they all enjoyed their meals: Huevos Rancheros, Migas Locas, bacon and egg taco, pancake. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese omelet, and it was served with a side of beans and potatoes.

Came for breakfast because I saw 4 star review, but personally I was not impressed. Hash browns are frozen, the slither of ham, that's what it was, a slither. The only thing I kinda liked were the scrambled eggs and maybe the pancake, but I have eaten made from scratch pancakes that were way better. Personally, I won't come back. Perhaps, if you go just to eat a taco, that might be good. Also, they need to update what the place looks like. It's not the photo you see on the web.
